Reviews for Malliouhana

Beautiful resort/location, room for improvement with service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 12 hours ago

Overall the Malliouhana is a very nice resort located on a beautiful beach, but there is some room for improvement with respect to service. The good: - The beach is absolutely stunning and very peaceful; go to Turtle bay beach for even more privacy and seclusion. - The pools are beautiful and quiet; the cabanas are available first-come first-serve and we never had a problem getting one (or you could reserve one with a fee). The service at the pools was always excellent - The rooms are large and very nice; the daily maid and nightly turn-down service were excellent. It was really nice coming back to the little wellness treats each evening (my favorite was the sugar scrub) - Taco Tuesday was wonderful - the tacos were delicious and you get a free margarita with the purchase of 2 - Complimentary coffee & tea every morning was lovely Room for improvement: - Our room wasn't ready until 3:45 even though the resort was very quiet / not at capacity. Kim was very nice about the situation and comped our lunch and some drinks which we really appreciated, but on a long travel day we were very eager to get into our room and freshen up/change - The service at bar soleil was very slow and not very pleasant. One night we stopped by just for dessert and waited 45 minutes for ice cream. The server seemed annoyed that we were there. - You get complimentary bottled water in the room and at the pools, but you have to pay for even flat water at the restaurants. You should at least be provided the same free water in the restaurants that you get in the room/pools. - The portion sizes at the restaurants are very small - my husband ordered the coconut sundae at bar soleil, $14 USD plus tax plus service charge, and it would have been considered tiny even as a kids portion (picture attached) - They did a nice job at celeste bringing my husband a dessert/singing to him on his birthday, however I was hoping there might have been something else they could have done at the resort to make his birthday feel special (I let the staff know that he was celebrating a very special milestone) - The rum & chocolate tasting was advertised as complimentary to all guests (no seating limitations). We arrived 10 minutes after it had started (we didn't know we had to be there right on time vs. drop-in) and were turned away being told there wasn't room even though there were not many people there and could have easily been accommodated. - Not the resorts fault, but we were awoken every morning at 5:30 am by a very loud rooster right outside our room

Beautiful resort

This was the most beautiful resort we have ever stayed in. It was wonderful for a family of four. We have a 17 year-old and a nine-year-old and they were both very happy and we all had a wonderful time. The view here in this hotel is absolutely phenomenal and everyone is friendly.

Beautiful Resort, Nightmare Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

If you are deciding between Malliouhana and another resort, please choose the other resort and DO NOT STAY HERE. I should still be at this resort right now had I not injured my back trying to climb over a 2ft tall sand ledge to my beach chair. After said injury, I was seen by the island doctor who made a very inappropriate comment about my "very athletic body" which made me very uncomfortable. After complaining to management about the conditions on the beach, I was told it is due to natural erosion (which I knew) but the resort does not have the resources to level the sand to make it safe for guests. A 5-star resort that charges upwards of $800 a night cannot push the sand down a few inches? My claims were also dismissed by the General Manager since "no one else had complained" and the "resort was always fully booked." I found his comments to be completely insensitive. Sadly, I checked out 1.5 days after arriving and flew back to the US in excruciating pain for medical treatment for a herniated disc and sciatica. While the resort is beautiful and the rooms are very large (albeit a bit dated), if you want smooth, SAFE beach access, or have any mobility issues at all, please stay at the Four Seasons, Cap Juluca or Aurora. Don't be fooled by the website photos and save your spine and your money!

Amazing stay at Malliouhana!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Malliouhana was more beautiful than pictures a capture. Location on Meads Bay was ideal with nice dips into the crystal clear Caribbean just a few steps away. Our Beachfront room was spacious and the view made the start of every morning a great experience! Room was well appointed and with the WC going on the rotating TV very handy!! There for a nice quiet getaway with my wife and thought it was great for families and couples! Staff from front desk to servers and beach attendants was top notch. Lemmy would get our beach setup ready for the “tough” day ahead and always made sure we had anything we needed! All around exceeded our expectations!! Can’t wait to get back. If boutique feel is your vibe this should be at the top of your list!!
