Amazing hotel, amazing service. The wellness is also a very high quality venue. Best hotel in Antwerpen we've ever been.

This Is No Sanctuary

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for two nights during a vacation. Although the hotel appears very impressive on paper, it has a number of shortcomings which, in my opinion, justify a maximum rating of 2 out of 5. The staff are friendly, although somewhat robotic, with clearly rehearsed and standardized responses. My rating is based on the significant gap between the hotel's marketing of itself as a luxurious sanctuary, its corresponding price level, and the actual facilities and service delivered. Beautiful surroundings, cleanliness, and good restaurants are the minimum one should expect from a hotel positioning itself in this segment. Room – Deluxe Room Every day at approximately 5:00 a.m., we were awakened by noise. Various deliveries to the hotel involved goods being moved in an extremely noisy manner, waking us up each morning around 5:00 a.m. (I also noticed that other guests have mentioned this issue). The view from our window included the hotel's waste disposal area, from which rubbish occasionally overflowed. We also had a view of staff members sitting outside on crates smoking. Not all day, but we observed this several times. On the evening of our second day, the television began freezing and stuttering. We restarted it by unplugging the power, but the issue remained. By the following morning, it was working again. The bathroom lighting was partly fully automatic, which meant extremely bright lighting in the middle of the night whenever one needed to use the bathroom briefly. I ended up covering three motion sensors myself with tape to avoid being flooded with light during the night. Restaurants The hotel has three restaurants, two of which hold Michelin stars (one and two stars respectively). We dined at the one-star restaurant, Fine Fleur. The food was good, but the noise level was very high. The two-star restaurant had no available tables, Henry's Bistro was fully booked for lunch, and Fine Fleur had only one table remaining, which we were fortunate to obtain. Bar – Henry's Bar: The hotel's only substantial bar area. On both days it was extremely overcrowded, noisy, and uncomfortably warm. The staff managed to find us a table, which happened to be the last one available. Breakfast The staff were largely inattentive and often had to be actively sought out. On the second morning we were, for long periods, practically alone in the breakfast area without seeing any staff. The two beverages most guests consume at breakfast—coffee and orange juice—could not be obtained independently and had to be ordered through staff. Securing these drinks required far more effort than it should have. On the second morning, we were the first guests to arrive, shortly followed by one other table. Despite there being only two occupied tables in the entire restaurant, no staff attended to us. Breakfast service started at 7:00 a.m. At 7:15 a.m., there was still no bread of any kind available. When our omelette arrived, three employees were arranging various bread selections. When I approached to take some bread, none of them stepped aside or offered assistance. I had to reach over the staff members—who showed no reaction whatsoever—to get bread for our table. Eventually, I walked over to the staff station and helped myself to orange juice. At check-out, we were charged approximately €140 for services that had already been prepaid. The issue was corrected after we pointed it out, but such an error should not occur at a hotel operating at this price level. Conclusion This hotel does not deliver on the high standards it claims to represent. The discrepancy between the hotel's self-proclaimed luxury positioning and the actual guest experience is simply too large to justify its reputation or price level
