In a distant corner of heaven on earth, between Oban and Perth and approximately two hours north of Glasgow, the intimate and romantic Ardanaiseig Hotel sits in deeply wooded gardens overlooking the mysterious islands and crannogs of western Scotlandâ€(TM)s Loch Awe. Built as a Scottish Baronial manor in 1834, this authentic country house welcomes visitors with its roaring log fire in the library, chamber music recitals in the drawing room and refined games room. Adorned with gracious antiques and works of art, each bedroom is an idealistic destination unto itself, named after local mountains, glens, lochs and castles.

Superb, so sad it has closed.
I sincerely hope this hotel reopens with the same ambiance and staff as were there when we stayed. The room was lovely, the staff couldn't have been better despite knowing they were being made redundant. The food was superb as was the location. Great value for money. The whole place was spotlessly clean. It was lovely and peaceful while we were there though I imagine they had great parties there.

Like no Other
This sadly may be our last chance to write about this wonderful hotel. We found it last year and have returned three times since. Many have called it magical and romantic and quirky and it is all those things. It is also wam friendly personal and yet professional; a genuinely unique place to stay and a privilege to have that opportunity. It is also of course exceptionally beautiful both as a building and in its position on Loch Awe. What however we will take away is the kindness of all and our regret that such an extraordinary establishment may close.

Misleading website and fraud
Stay well away from this fraudulent destination! - I booked dinner B&B from the their website, which stated clearly à Free Cancellation - Book now pay later tariff -which was then also confirmed in an e-mail. When I had to cancel our booking, I discovered that I was charged. E-mails were not replied to and the telephone line was dead. My advice don't believe the website or go near the Hotel. A last glimpse into a house from the past!
Sad to have only discovered this hotel just in time for it to close permanently. Yes, the facilities are somewhat dated and staff can seem thin on the ground, but, BUT, the food is excellent - if comedically slow at times - and staff are welcoming, diligent hosts. The grounds and bedrooms have clearly not received the maintenance they could have in recent years but the house has a rare, quirky charm which will no doubt be missed.

A wonderful, traditional, tranquil country hotel
What a wonderful place Ardanaiseig is. It is a traditional country house hotel so don't expect gleaming modernity, but our room was clean and extremely comfortable, the staff lovely and welcoming, the food very good and the bar well-stocked. Most of all though, the setting is truly spectacular, and feels a million miles from the hustle and bustle of normal working life. I'm very glad we visited before the hotel closes.
