Recent stay - Inn on Biltmore Estate

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

My wife and I decided we would celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary on July 4th by spending two nights at the Inn on Biltmore. We arrived on July 3rd and ate dinner in the Dining Room in the Inn. Within an hour and a half of completing our meal my wife complained of stomach pains. During the middle of the night my wife became violently sick with vomiting and diarrhea. I called 911 and she was transported to Mission Hospital. A battery of tests was performed at the hospital and the conclusion was she became ill after ingesting food. My wife was in perfectly fine health prior to eating at the Dining Room located at the Inn on Biltmore. The only logical conclusion is she became ill from the food she ate at dinner. Needless to say, we checked out of our room as soon as my wife was released from the hospital as she was in no condition to complete our stay. To my surprise and disappointment, we were never contacted by a representative of Biltmore to inquire of my wife's condition even though the night manager was outside our room when the firemen and EMT's arrived to evaluate and transport my wife to the hospital. On Monday, July 6th I called the Inn on Biltmore general service number and spoke with Joan. I told Joan what had transpired over the weekend and told her we should have our dinner charge of $142.77 and the room charge of $753.42 refunded since my wife became ill and went to the ER after eating at the Dining Room. Joan told me she would pass the message on to the director of Food and Beverage. On Tuesday, July 7th I called the general number again to inquire about a charge on our bill which was found to be incorrectly labeled. This time I spoke with Matt who identified himself as a manager. I again explained what occurred over the weekend and expressed our meal and room charge should be refunded. Matt said as a manager he did not have the authority to make that decision but he would pass the message on to the director of Food and Beverage. I am posting this review on July 10th after never hearing from the director of Food and Beverage or anyone else representing Biltmore addressing our experience. UPDATE: On the morning of July 11th, I sent an email to the CEO of the Biltmore Co explaining what transpired during our stay. It wasn't long before I received an email from the VP of Resort Experience apologizing for our experience, for my wife becoming ill, with no one following up after my wife was taken to the hospital by ambulance and initiated a credit for our meal and room charge. On the afternoon of July 11th, I received a call from the Director of Food and Beverage also apologizing for our experience and offered to provide us a dinner to properly celebrate our 30th anniversary.

Beautiful Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Stayed at the Inn for 2 nights in the beautifully renovated Mountain Suite. Booked the room / hotel as a surprise for my girlfriend after proposing to her in front of the main house. The room was a great surprise to check in to after the proposal. Her family also stayed on site at the Inn. Everything was perfect. The price was probably the most I will ever spend on a hotel room but I actually felt like I got my money's worth. The valet drivers were incredibly kind and helpful, as was the front desk staff. We also really enjoyed our meal as a family down on the lower level. I manage a hotel myself so I have become extremely picky on service and cleanliness, but was extremely pleased with all aspects of my stay. We had a very relaxing couple of days on the property and I'm sure we will be back!

Underwhelming experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We stayed at The Inn on the Biltmore Estate over the weekend of January 18th for our honeymoon. Unfortunately, we were very underwhelmed. Our room had an adjoining room with children. Even though the various kids were speaking at a normal volume, we heard every word they said. Other issues we found with the room was that the water never rose above a warm temperature, and the shelves in the shower were slanted at a 45 degree angle, which resulted in soaps and other products randomly crashing to the ground. Also, one of the glasses left in our room after maid service was dirty with red wine and lip marks on it. We did not drink any red wine during our stay. After that, we avoid using any of the cups for fear that they weren't sanitary. There were also some red stains on the wall of our bathroom. Part of the reason for our stay was due to the complimentary breakfast and valet parking. I'm not sure if there are staffing issues, but every morning was very chaotic. They left half of the dining room empty. We waited 45 minutes to an hour for a self-service, buffet breakfast, despite coming before heavy traffic times. Other guests mentioned this was the usual and discussed waiting an hour and half one day. One morning, after waiting three times the expected wait time for a table, the staff admitted they accidentally gave our table to a different couple along with our charge card for our room. They were not particularly concerned by this prospect, and only checked if someone else had charged anything to our room upon our request. Other issues we found was with the hours of operation. For example, the library lounge closed an hour and a half early one night without explanation. Also, while all of the valet parking attendants were so kind and courteous, it sometime took 15-20 minutes to get the car pulled up front, so after the first day, we opted for parking on our own to avoid the wait and having to call ahead. Nearly all of the staff, excluding whoever manages the breakfast, were very nice and understanding. There just didn't seem to be enough staff for the amount of guests. Our last night, they left us a bouquet of flowers, champagne, and an apology note, which was kind. By that point, however, we were just over the experience. We only stayed the second night because we couldn't cancel our spa services the following day. However, the massages were amazing, and were well worth one more uncomfortable night. We were closer to the Biltmore and various exhibits on the estate, but it really wouldn't take much longer to come from town. As history lovers, we will be visiting the Biltmore again in the future, but we will be avoiding the Inn and staying somewhere in town as we could not justify the expense.

The Inn has changed. I won’t stay again

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We recently stayed at the Inn on Biltmore where we have stayed several times in the past. It had always been an exceptional experience. Not this time. King Rooms that had been expansive are now normal size , but beautifully appointed. The beds which used to be luxurious are now hard as a rock. My husband woke up with a terrible back ache. He went into the shower to get hot water to loosen up and got a COLD shower. Went to use coffee maker which is hidden in a drawer that doesn’t pull out all the way and it was difficult to fill the water reservoir from where it is set and is not portable. Next I get up and check my phone - it hadn’t charged in the new plugs they had installed. When we brought all this to the attention of the front desk, they were nonchalant about it, offered only to put an extra duvet on the bed and give us blanket to sleep on top. We spoke to someone else later in the day that offered to refund our late check out fee. Upon checking out at the later time, the desk clerk said “ oh we don’t do that. You already stayed last regular check out” I said “ so your solution to our diffuses with this stay is to have us leave early?” She went and checked with the manager and we were able to get the small refund. Next time I will stay at Hampton Inn for a quarter of the price and have a comfortable bed, hot shower, plugs that work and a hot cup of coffee. PS the restaurant was exquisite and had excellent service as always. And you don’t have to stay at the Inn to make reservations at the restaurant!

The Cabins!!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I always stay on the grounds at Biltmore. You get free rein of the estate including the house and gardens. We decided to spurge and stay at one of the two renovated cabins. Well worth the money! They are small but cozy. The renovation was top notch. Really should have stayed for a week versus two days to fully enjoy it.
