The name of this hotel is misleading. In fact, The Little Nell is Aspen's biggest extravagance, a ski-in, ski-out den of decadence at the base of Aspen Mountain. While the style may be that of an intimate country inn, the service and sumptuousness belong to a grand hotel. From the private entrance, 2,500-square-foot Paepcke Suite with a fireplace in its king-bedded master bedroom to wine classes complemented by a 15,000 bottle private cellar, indulgence knows no bounds.

My mom and I just spent 4 nights at The Little Nell and it exceeded our expectations! From our airport pick up to our airport drop off, everything was wonderful. The staff is so kind and friendly. They are willing to help with anything. The room was spacious and very comfortable. There’s ample closet and storage space and the bathroom (especially with the two sinks) is so nice. I found the beds to be very comfortable, as well. I loved the design of the hotel - it is very modern yet still feels warm. The coffee in the mornings is a nice touch, which I’ve found many hotels do not do anymore. I spent a few afternoons at the pool and it is so relaxing with beautiful views. Element 47 has a fantastic breakfast. I loved every minute of being there! Can’t wait to visit again.

We stayed at The Little Nell for a few nights at the end of ski season. As first-time visitors to Aspen, we chose the hotel for its ski-in-ski-out access and five-star reputation. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations. On the day we checked in, my husband and I (both Asian) stopped by Element 47, the hotel’s lobby restaurant/bar, for light drinks and snacks. When we approached the host stand, the Hispanic male host with facial hair told us he was prioritizing “house guests.” Confused, I asked if he meant hotel guests. He confirmed, and I clarified that we were indeed staying at The Little Nell. The fact that he assumed otherwise without asking made us feel uncomfortable and singled out. Given the hotel’s predominantly white clientele, it felt like an assumption rooted in how we looked. No guest should ever be made to feel out of place based on their appearance. Beyond that unfortunate encounter, the overall service lacked the warmth and attentiveness one would expect at this price point. Front desk staff were polite but cold. On the third day of our stay, the hotel conducted loud rooftop maintenance to remove ice, but failed to notify guests. My husband had injured himself snowboarding and needed to rest that afternoon, but the noise was unbearable. There was no advance warning - no written note, no verbal mention, nothing. Had we known, I would have found him a quieter place to recover. But still, at over $1,000 a night, you’d expect to comfortably enjoy your room at any hour. When we shared our feedback on the issues above with the manager on duty the day we checked out, his response was, “How do you want to be compensated?” That lack of accountability was disappointing and not at all in line with what we expected from a luxury resort. Overall, The Little Nell felt overrated and underwhelming. Staff training, especially around cultural awareness and guest care, needs serious improvement. Next time we visit Aspen, we’ll be staying at Hotel Jerome instead.

The Little Nell made us feel right at home! We had a relatively short visit— three nights— and we felt like we had two weeks filled with adventure and fun by the time we left! We took the sunset drive up to the top of the mountain with Kegan, hiked up in the Maroon Bells to Crater Lake, had an amazing wine cellar dinner arranged and hosted by sommeliers Rachael and Adam, and had the best day fishing on the river with our fabulous guides George and Brady. Megan was our host at the hotel and she took care of us with every tiny detail, always with a big smile on her face and so full of hospitality. We had amazing breakfast every day at the hotel— the best— and we hit the best restaurants in town for dinner! So much more to see and do we have to plan a return trip next year. Perfect time to go to Aspen. The leaves and weather were AMAZING. Even the bears put on a show on your way home from dinner— dumpster diving! All in all, phenomenal trip. Thanks Little Nell for taking care of us, arranging all our adventures and meals and experiences! The concierge team is so helpful in planning events, and the bellmen are BEYOND. They drive you anywhere and are full of information and so friendly too. I wish I could name them all! All housekeeping and room service staff too. SO pleasant, helpful, and friendly. Clearly they are happy to be part of the team at The Little Nell! We will be back!!

I really can’t say enough good things about The Little Nell. It is simply put, a gorgeous, extremely comfortable and welcoming high-end hotel, sparing no expense to make one’s stay as perfect as possible. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by name and treated like royalty by the professional and well-trained staff. Our room was perfect — a good size and well designed and furnished, lots of plugs for devices, a lot of hooks for hanging wet clothes, very comfortable bed with really nice linens, fire place, usable balcony, big tub and a separate walk-in shower, huge bath towels, heated floors, and complimentary snacks and soft-drinks. The fitness center is very nicely done, not huge but more than sufficient for a good workout, and clean and well taken care of. There is a modest size outdoor swimming pool and a jacuzzi. The library near the spa is worth a visit, just to enjoy the decor. As noted above, service is impeccable. The location adjacent to the gondola and ski lift is an obvious plus (though we visited in the summer, so the ski-in and out aspect of the hotel was not a factor for us), though note that the noise from the gondola is audible at the pool all day and was audible in our room when we had the balcony door open. Our mountain-facing room was extremely quiet at night; I am a noise sensitive sleeper and this is always a plus for me. The fabulous Rio Grande Trail is a short distance from the hotel and great for running and biking. All in all, it was very difficult to leave after three fabulous days at the Nell. This is a first rate hotel.
