This is the ONLY place to stay in Aswan. We had a suite in the old part of the hotel overlooking the Nile and it was well worth the extra splurge! The pool area is stunning as are other parts of the hotel grounds. Breakfast was decent but perhaps a little sub-standard given the price point of the hotel. The Terrace restaurant has a great setting but the menu is a bit random and the food quality ok but nothing to write home about. Oriental Kebabgy was excellent. Service by the pool was generally excellent but bar service at the panoramic terrace bar was poor as was the quality of the cocktails served.

I rate this hotel among the most beautiful in the world. Everything was perfect. The welcome, the service, the concierge. The food at the restaurant delicious. Our rooms where so large and beautiful and the view on the Nile breathless. The spa just amazing as well as the pool area. I cannot wait to be back!!

The building is interesting with fascinating interiors and has lots of historical connections. It's like being in the 1930's but with every modern convenience. On arrival we were given an upgrade. This happens in practically every hotel we go to so I am not sure what it really means. At the Old Cataract it meant being sent over to the horrendous tower block annexe that was put up in the sixties, totally blocking the view upstream from the hotel proper. Our room was on the top floor and there was nothing whatsoever to complain about, big bed, big bathroom, everything you could expect. It also had a stunning view (particularly at night) down the Nile, looking back over the swimming pool and the old part of the hotel - their loss, our gain! The hotel was quite busy and the bar staff really couldn't cope with the demand. The restaurants are a bit hit and miss - go to the Egyptian one down by the river for more authentic, less international fare. Breakfast is served in a wonderful space by uniformed waiters and the selection is excellent. Make sure you take the Agatha Christie tour which is fun and interesting (and allows you to see the rooms in the actual hotel). Don't make the mistake of thinking that you will be going back in time to an era of sophisticated elegance, most travellers are there in groups doing a Nile cruise. Incidentally, the service round the pool is second to none, mainly because the guy in charge really cares about his guests and lunch is excellent.

We had a wonderful stay at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan. From the moment we arrived, the experience was exceptional—stunning grounds, a smooth check-in, and a lovely surprise room upgrade made our stay feel truly five-star. The flexibility offered for a late check-out was also much appreciated and added to the sense of luxury and comfort. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful, with elegant gardens and fantastic on-site restaurants. A special shout-out to Mahmoud, who brought great energy and a warm smile while serving us food and drinks—he truly enhanced our experience. That said, we do want to offer some constructive feedback regarding the check-out process. Unfortunately, our check-out was handled by Madonna, who gave us inaccurate information about our airport transfer. We were told it would take about an hour to get to the airport and advised to leave three hours before our flight. In reality, the drive took just 20 minutes, and the airport only opens two hours before departure. This led to us waiting outside a closed airport, wasting time we could’ve spent enjoying our last moments at the hotel. Additionally, there was a miscalculation with our final payment. We had paid a portion in Egyptian pounds and the remaining amount by credit card. As visitors unfamiliar with the local currency, we relied on the staff to count the cash correctly. However, after we had already checked out and were waiting outside for a taxi, we were called back to the lobby because the cash had been miscounted. It was uncomfortable and inconvenient to return and be told we owed more due to their mistake. While the staff did apologize, it was not the most professional way to handle the situation. Overall, the hotel is a stunning destination with world-class hospitality, but there is room for improvement in guest communication and the checkout experience.

Excellent spa treatment with great spa staff with friendly and efficient. My Thai masseuse called Alice is excellent. View from our room was excellent with lovely views of the Nile and stunning pool. Food at the restaurant is fine but the delivery can be faster.
