Terriable experience . OVER CHARGED and the staff checked us into 3 different rooms due to thier error not ours

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Upon checking in. We were given the wrong room. 3 different times. One room was occupied allready and the privacy of the guest was compromised. We booked a certain room and paid thru Expedia. Now the general manager who I checked out with not only charged us another nite but also claimed we added a nite to our reservation and up gradeded our room. The whole experience was terrible for such a over priced placed. The manager was so un professional and rude. And days later this was not rectified. We were accused of upgrading and adding to a Reservation when we did not. We were over charged almost 400 dollars and still the manager Jeffery hasn't made it right. Lost all respect for someone who accuses people of being un truthful.

An experience worth repeating

The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. They provided useful information for restaurants and wine tasting opportunities in the area. We loved the historic feel of the hotel and high quality of the room restorations. Definitely a gem for a stay in the Paso Robles area.

No emergency procedures or emergency lighting

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

The hotel has been refurbished, and both the reception area and the room were well decorated. The room was comfortable. However, our problems started the morning we were due to check out, when the power to the building went out. We were on the third floor. Now, power going out isn't usually the hotel's problem, but having some kind of plan to deal with it certainly is. We heard nothing from the staff, so after 30 minutes we decided it would be best just to check out. Obviously we couldn't use the elevators, so we followed the lighted EXIT signs... into a completely dark stairwell. There was nothing - no emergency lights, no signs. We used the flashlights on our phones to light our way, trailing luggage behind us. When we made it down, I went to the reception area and told the woman there what had happened. She said "Oh yes I know - our maintenance man is coming over". I told her how dangerous it was not to have emergency lighting in a stairwell that is signposted as an emergency exit - and she just giggled and looked away. No-one should stay here until the staff are better trained and emergency lighting is installed.

Great front desk!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

Front desk person on the overnight shift on july 29th was great. We went there after a terrible experience at a different hotel. The front desk person checked us in immediately without issue. The rooms were large and the bathroom was great and recently remodeled. The hotel was quaint and had a lot of charm to it.

Paris of the West

Very large and quiet room and large bathroom. Nice sheets, toiletries by appointment only -- state regulations FY 2022 ! BYOS bring your own soap. I requested that the toilet be repaired so that the lid did not have to be removed to stop the water fill or to flush. I requested that the faucets be fixed to stop the non-stop drips. I know, so demanding. On check out I learned that there was no engineer Friday to Sunday. They might add a shampoo for the hallway carpets to the "things to do list". A shout out for bakers on the ground floor of the Carlton ( behind the front desk) . They have the best croissants I have had in this country. They might be better than all but a very few boulangeries in Paris, France. Really. The Back Door Bakery is a destination in my virtual book. I understood that their flour is milled for them by a company in Visalia -- go figure
