This hotel was newly refurbished, so the hard facilities were great. Club lounge was great to provide great happy hour and breakfast and has an excellent Acropolis view. Room was newly decorated so was elegant and comfortable. Outdoor pool with two floor sundecks was fantastic. However, the service was just-so so. Check-in and check-out was very slow. They did not provide a late checkout for IHG elite members.

In the interest of fairness I must point out I use lots of IHG hotels whilst I’m at work so I am entitled to certain perks via my loyalty scheme. Nonetheless even excluding that, this was a very enjoyable city break for my better half and I (four nights). The Club Lounge is excellent if you get the opportunity to use it. We used that and the main restaurant for breakfast - both were exceptional with great variety and attentive staff. Our room on the 8th floor was comfy, clean and well equipped. Unfortunately no view of The Acropolis but you can’t have everything! Tip though - the view from the Premier Restaurant/Bar on an evening makes up for it. All the staff we encountered were worthy every penny and were genuinely committed to looking happy which is all too rare these days. My only gripe (and its barely worthy of the word gripe); we a pretty long check-in, but probably just simply had a bit of bad luck regards a large group arriving just before us I’d return in a shot. Athens. My favourite IHG.

We checked in after a cruise for a last night in Athens. As expected, our hotel room was not ready. Unexpected - we had to wait on a long line after 3 pm to finally get a room. The desk clerk was not at all pleasant and gave us the wrong room (double beds). The manager was very attentive and worked to make things right promptly, but the experience was already soured. The un-renovated room with rusty bathroom fixtures did not improve the overall stay and the incredibly rude concierge (think his response to my request for a map was to tell me to go ask the doorman for directions) put paid to any hope for redemption. I will call out the very nice staff in the downstairs bar and the lovely rooftop bar and restaurant for its helpful and attentive team and special views of the acropolis. I would pass this one by if you are looking to book a hotel in Athens.

Great hotel. Large rooms, not the small rooms that you can hardly walk around in that you get in so much of Europe. It is a “typical” large US style hotel, so if you are looking for the European charm this hotel is not it. But if you want space and what US travelers are used to, this is probably it. The Premiere restaurant on the rooftop is great and has wonderful views. The breakfast buffet is extensive, although the room itself is very large and can be noisy. The staff in totality is very friendly, including the housekeeping team. The only downside that I have found is the location. While being on one of the busiest Athens streets (8 lane highway, 4 each way) makes it convenient, there is really is not a place that I would feel comfortable walking around the neighborhood. We tried one day and walked through a homeless area within a few blocks from the hotel. This is not the hotel’s fault, but just be aware that outside space is limited for exploring. I would certainly stay again. A top notch hotel in Athens!
