Reviews for Athenaeum InterContinental Athens

Unfortunately it was only one nights stay. Would have liked longer.

Only one night unfortunately. We are starting a cruise from athens. Im a IHG member so intercontinental hotel was chosen for this reason. We arrived and the hotel and we were helped with our bags which was great since I've done my back. Got a lovely young lady at the front desk who thanked me for being a member and then she said she would like to assign us to a better room and we were allocated a suite instead of the standard room we booked. We were given a suite that had been renovated. Very comfortable. A little lounge area with a kettle and mini bar and a seperate bedroom and bathroom. It was right near the lifts so it was a little noisy but once we closed the bedroom door it was a bit better. Our cruise not embarking till two we asked if we could get a late check-out which we were given till 1pm. The breakfast here is a great buffet breakfast. There is truly something for everyone. The freshly squeezed orange juice was so nice. We are in the hotel last night and the menu is quite large. The gyros were very nice. Before dinner we had a drink in the bar and listened to the man on the piano. It's a big spacious bar area and we're given nuts and chips and sat and people watched. The hotel has a tram line not far that you can use to get about for one euro 10 for four hours so very good value. Concierge will get you a taxi pretty quick also. We would certainly stay here again if back in Athens.

Our hotel in Athens

Currently staying here for seven nights, this is our second last night. Nice hotel and great location near all the attractions. Disappointed as IHG member not to get refurbished room when staying seven nights. Regardless the food, service and facilities are excellent and the view from the rooftop bar and restaurant is amazing. The breakfast buffet is best in class. Our number one favourite was the piano player in the lounge every evening. Stayed till he finished every evening

Another old Intercontinental property trying to stay relevant. Be sure to request a newly renovated room.

Another old & worn Intercontinental property, that is apparently undergoing renovation as most Intercontinental properties need. Even though we are Platinum Elite IHG members it meant absolutely NOTHING here, as it does at the vast majority of IHG properties. IHG Rewards is basically a poorly administered program that does little to live up to the hype promoted to members. We were assigned one of the OLD rooms even though rooms on the other half of our floor had been recently upgraded. Yet another poor experience where Platinum status meant zero. Hotel is not in the best location since you need to Uber/Taxi to/from central Downtown, Syntagma Square & the Plaka area. However, there is a Metro rail stop only 2 blocks from the hotel that makes 3 stops & dead-ends at Syntagma Square, which is far more convenient & faster than dealing with the auto traffic. We found it clean, pleasant & easy to use. All the hotel staff were personable & helpful & good housekeeping was evident throughout the property. The rooftop bar offers one of the best direct views of The Acropolis that you will find in Athens. Spectacular at night.

Great hotel just a little out of the way

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Facilities, staff, room were all amazing. Great gym as well. Location was a little out of the way so you needed a fair walk or a taxi into town but the porter would always have a taxi waiting Room was a great size for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. Breakfast was really go Would highly recommended this for any family.

Spacious and comfortable for a family of 4

The hotel is designed with space in mind. Vast spaces in the atrium and rooms. Facilities and decor are slightly outdated, however, the hotel will undergo vast reconditioning from November onwards. So, i guess, this aspect will be addressed. Breakfast was great with good options for every taste. Check in and check out were fast and staff was charming and attentive. Location is good, near a main avenue and at walking distance from a tram stop. Although the hotel is a 5 stars one, the neighborhood where is located seems a little bit off.
