A Grand Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

A very big and very busy hotel with many groups and individuals coming and going all the time. However, thanks to the very hard working and professional staff, it doesn’t feel like it. Have seldom stayed in a hotel where all staff encountered are both cheerful and responsive. Would strongly recommend.

Classic luxury

Wonderful old school hotel. Impeccable 5 star service from the whole team, lovely rooftop pool, beautiful bedrooms with a view of the Acropolis to die for and a lovely restaurant on the top floor. This really is a timeless classic place that you just won’t want to leave.

A 5 star hotel with 5 star service and in a great position

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We were able to get a fantastic deal with British Airways which included the flight and four night Bed and ( superb) breakfast in the traditional excellent 5 star hotel. Being a great deal we had entry rooms facing the courtyard we even so everything was excellent, the room a good size and 5 star service throughout. Well recommended for a short early break as the position is perfect, short walk from acropolis, across the road from the parliament, near shops and more places to eat that you ever need. All the staff were so well trained, the consierge arranged a super 3 hour tour guide Anastasia, who was excellent and made the whole place come alive, answering all our questions with enthusiasm. She may have been there a thousand times but you wouldn’t have known. Unfortunately the outdoor pool wasn’t open yet but the free spa as excellent. Lovely hotel

Excellent city hotel in Athens

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We stayed in a one bedroom suite with an additional connecting room (rooms 612 and 614) with a huge terrace overlooking the main square with a clear view of the Acropolis. The hotel remembered from a survey from a previous stay that i like foam rollers and put one in my room. Lots of treats were awaiting our arrival. The suite is very well decorated with a lovely traditional living room. Hotel has a very good gym, an indoor pool open till 9pm (with a bathing suit dryer), very good spa facilities open also till 9, and an outdoor pool which was still closed for the winter. The breakfast buffet is excellent with an additional table of Greek specialties. The setting overlooking the Acropolis is really nice. Dinner there was also excellent including a really good pasta dish, which was not what we expected to find here. Hotel's location is convenient to Acropolis (15 minute walk), Attica department store (2 minutes) and Marks and Spencer (5 minutes). Hotel offers a reasonable airport transfer for 80 euros which worked fine for our family of 4 with carry-on luggage only. A few comments on our suite: there is only one bathroom in the 1 bedroom suite; the sofa in the living room does not open so you need to ask for a rollaway if someone wants to sleep in that room. The bed next door can be split into two, which is a good thing. The suite's master bedroom's bed is close to the room next door which can be a problem if the people in that room are having a conversation. They can also hear you. Having a sliding door next to that walk-in closet would be a good idea. The shower goes both ways (meaning to two different faucets) and it's hard to turn it off without having water dripping out from one faucet or the other. Otherwise, this is a great hotel in all respects and it remains our first choice in Athens.

Great location and high quality hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights for a ‘sight-seeing’ trip and the hotel was perfectly placed in the centre of Athens. The hotel is obviously older, but has been excellently maintained and decorated. The rooms are well appointed and to a very high quality. The high-light of the hotel is the 8th floor dining room. There are excellent views of the Parliament building and the Acropolis / Parthenon. We sat outside for breakfast a couple of mornings and it was amazing - you needed a jumper, as still early in the season. The cigar bar on the 2nd floor was also great and was a nice place to go for pre-dinner drinks (or post-dinner). The staff through-out the hotel were excellent and very helpful - all speaking very good English for us tourists! We did not realise that our trip ended on Greece’s Independence Day, which centres around Parliament and therefore the hotel! All the road were shut off from 6am on this day, so many thanks to the hotel Concierge for still managing to arrange transportation to the airport for us.

I traveled to Greece in June of 2004 and had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Grande Bretagne after its multimillion-dollar renovation. The hotel was absolutely impeccable in every way. Our room was palatial, the service was fantastic and the dinner we enjoyed at the rooftop restaurant was truly an evening to remember with the fantastic view of the Acropolis.

My experience with the Grande Bretagne exceeded my expectations on every account. The hotel was beautiful and the room was amazing. Dinner was exceptional - definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Greece.
