The Hotel Britomart

This is a good hotel, even though some rooms have windows opening on an ugly wall or worse, next door offices and workshops located a couple of meters away. Privacy is not an option in these rooms, unless you live in the dark. However, the rooms are spotless and comfortable. And breakfast is outstanding. The one strange thing about this hotel is that it only welcomes kiwi and Argentinian clients, because they happen to share the same electrical socket format. Whether you are North American or European, don’t even think about recharging your mobile phone. They might provide you with a local USB charger but forget about using your electrical razor for instance. Worse, if you have medical equipment that requires power supply (which is my case), you will be in deep trouble if you have not brought your own plug adaptor. This is amazing. I have never ever seen such a costly hotel that would not have, at least in the bathrooms, a socket that is compatible with several types of plugs. This is a very basic requirement. Whether it is intentional or not, this is truly a form of contempt for overseas visitors. All the other hotels I have visited in NZ meet that basic requirement.

I had been a regular guest at this hotel for over three years, staying 20+ nights per year and also booking rooms for my staff. Recently, due to a flight cancellation out of Sydney, I needed to cancel one night’s stay. Despite my long history with the hotel, they refused to waive the charge because it was within the 24-hour cancellation window. Policies are understandable, but loyalty should count for something. Unfortunately, the lack of flexibility in this situation has led me to move my business for our entire company — to another hotel that values long-term customers.

We decided to stay at the Britomart primarily to be close to the ferry terminal. However, the Britomart turned out to be so much more. It is an excellent hotel, modern, with well appointed and very comfortable rooms, and a team who interact with guests warmly and professionally. Breakfast was also delicious. An added bonus is that the hotel is set among a myriad of restaurant options. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the hotel.

My partner and I had an incredible stay for our honeymoon. The location is convenient and the employees are attentive to all needs.

Great location, friendly staff, comfortable room. Blackout shades were fantastic. We were also able to watch the total eclipse of the moon from our window.
