Proper Austin is properly perfect!
Everything from start to finish at Proper Austin was excellent. It far exceeded all expectations. Cleanliness is a huge item for me. If I find even 1 hair or scuff marks on the walls, I will rate less. The Proper was perfect! Everything from check in, the personal touches upon checkin, the details while there, until checkout, everything was great! Location is the best, atmosphere was fun, you can have a quiet stay if that is what you prefer, as we do. You can text to ahead your car ready at valet, the same goes for texting when you want your room cleaned. They bring fresh big glass bottles of water daily, the in room personal items like shampoo/conditioner are incredible and sometimes I want in my own home. Loved the decor and design of the room and entire hotel. I would definitely recommend The Proper Austin. It is not cheap, but you g er what you pay for & I would pay this anytime to stay somewhere this clean and personal. Great job Proper staff!

Better options in town, Marriott status unhelpful
Staying at the Proper for a couple of nights while in town. We know Austin well having lived here for about 7 years and has heard good things about the hotel. Had good meals at Peacock before so decided to check it out. After a night here I think there are better options (Thompson, Fairmont, JW, W, etc). The room is nicely decorated, but very small. No desk or chair which was inconvenient as I had to do some work. Marriott status didn’t help as I got a room which literally looks at a parking garage wall roughly 30 feet away. The service so far has been fine, very responsive via text, but I found check in to be a bit cold in their welcome. The main bar is packed and loud, which I get for Austin. The small bar just off the front desk is really nice and the servers in there were incredible. Looked to go to the pool, and it’s pretty green and cloudy…so debating if that’s where to spend the day. I’m confident it will be a good vibe. The restaurant up there is currently closed though, so that limits some options. Gym is awesome - huge and has a ton of equipment. Overall - just think the room is subpar for the money. Think some of the other premier properties in town are better value and present more value if you have loyalty program status.
