About the Hotel

Hotel Magdalena is a hotel project from Austin’s acclaimed Bunkhouse in collaboration with renowned architecture firm Lake | Flato, located on Music Lane in the popular South Congress neighborhood of Austin. At 89 rooms, it is Bunkhouse’s largest hotel to date, and features four new, but distinct, buildings connected by exposed elevated walkways and courtyards, creating a treehouse feel inside the grounds. The property sits at varying elevations, an homage to the slopes of Barton Springs, and the lush grounds are planted with native Texas species including Bigtooth Maples, Redbuds, Meyer Lemon Trees, Yaupon Holly, and Little Gem Magnolia.

Great place to stay in Austin

A great location, with a great staff, and great views. I was traveling on business and this was a terrific place to stay. The staff at the restaurant was exceptional.

First time coming to Hotel Magdalena and I miss it already. Everyone was so kind and accommodating. Come to Austin every now and then but will definitely be back. Ivy and Frances at the front desk are the best. If you are looking for a hotel in Austin near South Congress I highly recommend!

Great service and high-quality, unpretentious design

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Great service. High-quality, unpretentious design. Staff jumped through hoops to reserve our room for a 2nd night after I mistakenly reserved it online for only 1 night. When we were out of the hotel, staff mistakenly knocked on our room door while the Do Not Disturb sign was on the door. We were offered a bottle of wine as apology for the disturbance, even though we never would have known about it if they hadn't told us, and it wasn't a disruption to our stay since we weren't even in the room when it happened. Loved the outdoor spaces the hotel buildings surrounded. Great view of the courtyard from our room balcony. Our room (301) was nice and private, as it did not share any walls with other guest rooms. Loved the natural light and clean design in the room. Only 2 minor issues: Self-service vending and ice machines would be nice conveniences, so guests wouldn't have to buy things out of the room mini-fridge or call the front desk for such minor items. There were some odd noises in the room at night, like elevator and building mechanical and plumbing systems. Not a big bother to me, since I use a white noise app every night anyway.

Ivy, at the front desk was engaging, knowledgeable and helpful.

Ivy, at the front desk was pleasant, knowledgeable and had great suggestions. He helped me immensely with a problem I had and was very diplomatic in doing so. I actually enjoyed going in to see him .

Great Austin experience in the heart of the city, but away from downtown

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My husband and I did a staycation at Hotel Magdalena and thoroughly enjoyed it. The center courtyard with lush vegetation and a nice pool (and pool bar) was a great place to hang out and very relaxing. We really enjoyed eating breakfast on the patio at Summer on Music Lane. The Equipment Room speakeasy was a great spot for cocktails before hitting South Congress for dinner and live music.
