Hotel Magdalena

I always love staying at Hotel Magdalena as a staycation, since I live in Austin. Its like an oasis right off South Congress, so you are able to relax in the comfortable rooms, enjoy their beautiful pool surrounded by trees & then just few steps away are amazing shops & restaurants, including Summer House on their property. The food & drinks are definitely elevated compared to other hotels. I can't wait to go back!

This was one if the worst places I ever stayed. My room was booked far away from everyone else in my blocked booking. I arrived early and everybody kept getting a room ahead of me. The reason given seemd bogus. My room had no air-conditioning, I had to walk alone in the dark while finding my room and getting to and fro since the lighting was broken (a known issue). They did finally move my room but only because the air-conditioning didn't work

I will never be visiting this location again. Rude FD staff for absolutely zero reason, fire alarms going off, and loud construction first thing in the AM.. not worth it. I hate sounding so negative but I'd want to know these things before booking a room in Austin, especially since there are so many other options. Also, the room setup is just odd. Your door is behind you while you sleep, which maybe that's a me thing, but I like to see my whole room when I'm going to sleep somewhere I'm unfamiliar with.

The vibe, the staff all excellent. The room had a private, screened balcony with a working ceiling fan. It was excellent. Lots of tree coverage so it feels secluded. Only complaint: was the bed was as hard as a rock.

Overall, this was a decent value and I love Bunkhouse as a brand. I mainly stayed for the pool, which I enjoyed, and the soaps were great. That said, the room design was not my favorite. The bathroom door was right next to the bed, the sink was in the bedroom instead of the bathroom, and the shower pressure was surprisingly weak while the sink pressure was overly strong. The elevator was also very slow and poorly ventilated, and the stair layout made getting to reception inconvenient. Cute concept, but it felt a little forced and not as functional as I hoped. I’ll probably stay at another Bunkhouse property next time.
