Reviews for Hotel Van Zandt

Not for lactating mothers.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

The hotel itself is nice enough. Nice rooms, decent lighting, comfortable and clean. However, I would NOT recommend this hotel for travelling mothers who are needing to pump or store breast milk. If you are a solo traveler not requiring any type of freezer or accomodations, this is a great place. Otherwise, 0/10. --- I stayed here for a work trip and they assured me that they could freeze my breast milk. I called ahead weeks before, I called ahead the day before, and I brought it up upon check in. I arrived on a Monday, and they said they would bring a freezer to my room. It's a mini fridge. I went down to the front desk and asked if they had a legitimate freezer that would freeze, as they had said they did on the phone multiple times. They said yes I just had to give them containers of my milk, and they would put it in the freezer in the back. It had to be self contained. The last three days I have given them containers filled with breast milk to put in the freezer to freeze. They assured me they would freeze it solid. Today as I'm getting ready to leave - nothing is frozen. The hotel did absolutely nothing to help me and they're completely screwing me over. It's likely that on top of having to scramble to figurebout how to travel with a ton of liquids (only frozen is okay for TSA) that I'm going to lose around 70 oz of breast milk because of their carelessness. When I spoke to the blond woman at the front desk, she simple stared at me and said "but there's ice in the freezer." Neat. Thanks. I'm now scrambling to figure out how to keep everything cold all day while I travel because not even the ice packs I added to the "freezer" on Monday are not frozen. The fact the simple ask of freezing something is so difficult is not only infuriating, but it speaks to how little Hotel Van Zandt considers mothers. A small ask to freeze something has been nothing short of a nightmare. I didn't realize that the difference between a fridge and a freezer required explanation. I am so disappointed and so upset following the end of my work trip. It has been a terrible way to end a challenging week. Other moms who breastfeed or pump or have ever just have to travel without your babies, know that I see you and I IMPLORE you to not stay here.

Classy night out

A classy night out, hearing music with Rotary Club friends hosting a fundraiser at Geraldine’s bar. Beautiful space, helpful staff. Shout out to Valet parkers Josh and Matthew. Making it safe and easy on a busy weekend night downtown

My husband and I had a wonderful time in Austin starting with our hotel stay. They were very accommodating. Not to mention it’s a beautiful hotel. The on site restaurant is great as well.

Adult hotel focused on drinking + sex

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

My stay was disappointing, especially traveling with a child. We arrived on a Thursday, and the vibe was weird. Highlights: Arrival: 1. No one was at the hotel it was empty 2. We came early and were asked to pay $30 for early check in and set an unwelcoming vibe 3. Offered margaritas or water offered at check in not a hotel aligned with our family In the room: 1. Alcohol displayed openly on the vanity 2. His and hers condom and lubricant set 3. Pool view - adults everywhere no children had a place to play or swim Valet: 1. $62 a night for valet no self parking 2. Tons of construction 3. Valet charged my car which is nice but didn’t ask me if I wanted to charge my car and afraid I’ll be charged for it. Location 1. Good location near freeway 2. Downtown is empty during the day and night 3. Overrun by homeless Housekeeping: 1. Room had someone else hair on shower wall 2. After cleaning room linens were not refreshed 3. Bathroom amenities not refreshed Overall: 1. Not a family friendly hotel obviously the audience are single adults 2. If you are not in the drinking space this hotel is not for you nor is the pool area
