For when you need to lay back, lean in, or get immersed in the flavors and culture of the live music capital of the world, you know something memorable is about to happen at Thompson Austin. A place for locals and visitors to let loose poolside or at the restaurants and bars, where the luxe, contemporary vibe is signature Thompson — bold but not showy, complex yet confidently relaxed. With dramatic Austin cityscape views on display, the residential feel of the accommodations creates a setting to refresh and get ready for anything. Check into rooms, suites or residences offering moody hues, gorgeous custom furnishings, floor-to-ceiling windows with roller shade window coverings, and elegant plank floors in a warm gray wood grain. The custom décor mixes midcentury modern with late-century luxury, resulting in elegant spaces that will make you take pause before heading back out into the city. This untamed urban playground celebrates serious revelry from the moment you encounter the lobby’s airy atmosphere of light and shadow, offset by the bold geode-inspired architecture.

Had the best long weekend here. The hotel was beautiful. The staff was so friendly and helpful, especially Marquis at Valet. Highly recommended

Overall, the room was great. Bed was comfortable. Nice toiletries, tech TV, good lighting. Room was well maintained. As for what can be improved, I ordered breakfast to be delivered at 7:30. It was delivered at 7:10. At 7:35 am, I got a call from room service asking me if everything was okay with my order. I explained that it wasn't delivered at the requested time, and the response was: "Well, most people like to have their food delivered early." First, don't make excuses and don't lie. If I wanted my order, delivered at 7:10, I would have selected 7 or 7:15 for the delivery time. No one wants their order delivered 20 minutes early... Second, just apologize. That would have been enough. The fact that she made up an excuse pissed me off. Also, I don't want to be called by in room dining at 7:35 to ask about my order. It was annoying and jarring to get the call. If there is a problem, with my order, I assure you I would have let someone know. Separately, I don't like the dual hotel split with Tommie. Its an obvious attempt to make more money and avoid the costs of splitting the two hotels. The problem is you are mixing an elevated brand with a more mass market hotel brand. Its like W and Aloft. While they share the same DNA, they attract different clientele. It totally dilutes the Thompson brand. And I don't want a hotel with a lot of people there to party which is the vibe I got. It seemed like both hotels share the same lobby and elevators. While I would return, this is not a hotel I would ever seek out. Lastly, get rid of the fake greenery in the shower. Its gross.

We have had the pleasure of staying at the Thompson in San Antonio and Houston. They are both great. The Austin property experience was extra ordinary. From the valet (Marquis) to the front desk ( Harry) to the staff at the diner ( Kader).... the culture of staff was geniunely friendly and extremely competent. Well done whoever is hiring the right folks and training them well.
