A pleasant stay with issues

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We have been coming here every Christmas for the past 10 years. Overall it does a solid job given how busy the resort gets. We had a pleasant stay apart from a few issues. Rooms are fine. Beds are beginning to show their age. Cleaning was a bit inconsistent and the quality of towels left a lot to be desired. The laundry service is the most expensive I have ever seen. They see fit to charge a 50% holiday surcharge plus some self made environmental tax. Overall it costs $18 just to get a pair of underwear laundered. The resort fee is over $70 per day. It is ultimately a 4 star hotel. Anyone looking for better, may be disappointed

Mixed Bag at JW Aventura

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I’ll start by acknowledging that booking this resort during the post-Christmas rush was probably not my best decision. Below is breakdown of our experience. Check-In Process: We missed the dedicated check-in area for elite members (turn left before the main lobby) and ended up at the standard front desk. At 3:30pm, we were initially told our room wasn’t ready, though five minutes later another attendant said it was available. The inconsistency was frustrating. We did appreciate being informed about the elite member happy hour, though service there was inattentive. Our server who was responsible for the outdoor seating area spent most of her time chatting with guests from her home country rather than checking on tables. Guests Behavior: The resort attracts a certain clientele that may not align with everyone’s expectations. Think entitled people. I experienced guests placing golf/gym bags on my occupied table without much of a word, loud conversations in elevators, and aggressive pool chair claiming (the resort even has signs limiting chair reservations allowing 45 minutes of away time, which tells you something). I don’t get people who get up at the crack of dawn to set a book or flip flops for a pool chair. You then arrive in the afternoon and look at me funny like I’m invading your space as I’m seated next to you. Why? Breakfast: The breakfast buffet was disappointing, with limited options that felt more suited to a Residence Inn than a JW property. The staff appeared overwhelmed, though they were doing their best under challenging circumstances. The Positives: The rooms featured excellent showers, and the bell staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. Bottom Line: Consider your timing carefully when booking, and set expectations accordingly for the guest demographic.

Cruise ship on land

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

I chose to visit the Marriot Turnberry based on multiple recommendations from friends who said it was a great hotel for kids. We usually travel to Orlando, but thought we’d try something new. Our checkin was 2.5 hours past 4pm (normal check in time). Room was not ready. First room we were given was filthy. Crushed potato chips all over the carpet, wet spots on the carpet and the shower had no hot water. After dinner we were moved to another room, which was ok, but also not super clean. Stained carpeting and just overall ick. Housekeeping didn’t service room two days when we left at 9am and didn’t return until after 3pm and when they did towels were thrown in the bathroom and floors were not vacuumed. The hotel did not have enough staff to service the amount of guests. The main restaurant for breakfast had a line like Disney World, and they were pushing guests outside into a glorified wedding tent for breakfast buffet. When we asked why an entire section in the sun on the patio was open, but we couldn’t sit there, the hostess told us they didn’t have someone to staff that area. Pool staff were amazing and attentive. Will not be returning. Hotel needs major updates and trained staff. Throwing credits at guests for shortcomings isn’t a good look.

Nice but not the best JW

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Just finishing a 5 day stay. Ive been to several JW’s and would rate the overall experience as 3.5 of 5. The property is nice, the amenities solid and I found the service/staff mostly friendly and responsive. Rooms are pretty average and in some cases in need of some updating. If you are on the golf course side….views are awesome. If on the other side views are terrible. We booked a Junior Suite that did not specify view but very picture on the website had the golf course view. We got a parking lot. We tried to move and they would not accommodate us stating they were full. I get it but the person we dealt with really didn’t give much effort to attempt to find an opportunity to move us. They gave us a $250 resort credit. It didn’t really satisfy. The golf course is decent but very overpriced around $350 a round plus a fore caddie which is mandatory requiring another $50 per person. I kind of felt the fore caddie was more to hurry us to stay on pace vs provide a caddy like experience. We finished in around 4 hours and felt pushed. The golf director in the proshop was friendly and excellent and helped us shipping our clubs. Pools were nice but crowded. Cascada pool is beautiful but only half is in the sun and everyone wants that side leaving little room. I don’t like that they sell daily attendance to the water park .. it is not just for hotel guests and it gets overcrowded with tons of kids and rains on the experience. The restaurants were a mix. Bourbon Steak is amazing but prepare to drop serious $. Corsair is average. The lobby bar was mid at best. Bartenders were slow and not very skilled. We had a good time overall but it did not match Marco Island, San Antonio or the Phoenix/Scottsdale golf properties.

Could be great but service lets this hotel down

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We have been staying at this hotel for 10 days, we have 2 rooms a Junior suite for myself and my husband and a one bedroom suite for our daughter, son in law and 2 children. On the positive side the rooms are good, large and all amenities we need. The pools and water park are fab for the children, everyone has enjoyed Tidal Cove . Unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired. Myself and my daughter checked in with the children, the men went to collect the rental car. There was no one to help us with our luggage to the rooms and we couldn’t manage it all. A very nice check in chap actually had to leave reception and help us up to our rooms. I had called the hotel a few days before arriving to make sure that a baby cot would be in the room, it wasn’t there, nor was the sofa bed made up for the older child! It was late at night so not acceptable. The cot arrived eventually! We asked for our rooms to be cleaned daily between 10-11 am, not a big ask, but guess what, most days our daughter and family got back to their room late afternoon and the room hadn’t been cleaned. Our room was cleaned very late on a couple of occasions. My husband spent a lot of time going to the front desk to complain to the staff and managers regarding this. It’s a real shame because the hotel is great for families but they clearly do NOT have enough staff in certain areas and it is an expensive hotel!

I just returned from one of the most wonderful hotels I've stayed in. I bid on and won an auction on Luxury Link to Turnberry Isle Miami, which included five days of golf. IT WAS WONDERFUL! And so luxurious!

We booked Turnberry Isle Miami through Luxury Link and stayed for 9 days on a spectacular golf package. The hotel was fantastic! Beautiful upgraded balcony room overlooking the golf course. Great buffet breakfast. Fantastic golf on two excellent courses. Our golf package included the mandatory caddy fees, which added to the incredible value. I could not speak more highly for this hotel, and Luxury Link.
