Surrounded by nothing but turquoise lagoon which melts into sapphire blue, the Maldives luxury resort island of Anantara Kihavah and its pure white sands rise up out of the ocean like a mirage. For centuries, this was where Arab traders sailing to the Far East took shelter; a lush paradise blessed by coconut, papaya and mango trees. Navigating archipelago to archipelago by the stars, the seafarers were also drawn by the riches of the ocean surrounding the island – where a prehistoric volcano sank back into the depths, leaving blooming corals within a house reef and a wealth of lagoon fish. Wishing to keep the pristine nature of the island intact, not one tree has been moved – as evidenced by the villas growing up around them. The design pays homage to the seafarers of old, fusing Indian Ocean, Arab and Portuguese motifs with indigenous materials. Located on the Baa Atoll in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas invites you to imagine your own barefoot luxury paradise. Savour the luxury of space in your private pool beach villa or over water villa. Snorkel with mantas and Hawksbill sea turtles. Stargaze into the night. Dine on a deserted sandbank or beneath the ocean’s surface at this enchanting sanctuary

We went with our daughter and her family and stayed in the overwater villas. There are many delightful things that we will remember forever. The villas are incredible, i loooved the bathroom!! And spent many hours on the huge swing on the terrace, reading and looking out for rays and sharks. Our grandsons loved the sea creatures and would lie in the hammock looking out for them. They also enjoyed lying on the big sofas at the sky bar at sunset spotting stars and satellites as they appeared. Breakfast was everything you could possibly wish for: we loved the cereals with various seeds, nuts, dried and fresh fruit, the eggs anywhich way, the smoothies, pastries, lovely coffee!! The view whilst eating and the lovely staff. Our villa host Sulhiya was a sweetie, not at all intrusive but quickly available if we needed anything. There were some very thoughtful touches, the toy rays on the boys beds and the birthday cake and champagne for my husband. I loved walking through the island, it was beautiful both day and night with exotic birds sounds and lovely orchids. Our favourite restaurants were spice and fire. The food was always beautifully cooked with high quality ingredients. We just couldn’t eat much because of the heat. We enjoyed getting the tray of nuts and olives whenever we ordered a pre dinner drink. The villa was cleaned twice a day and I really don’t know how they did that so unobtrusively. It always looked clean and lovely. The bathrobes are very high quality as are the towels. The shower gel and shampoo smelt gorgeous too. We had a couple of tiny niggles, very tiny! I love earl grey tea and asked for it in the villa several times but didn’t always get it. I felt bad keep asking so gave up. We struggled to get early sittings in the restaurant but when we arrived there was barely anyone there so I couldn’t understand why we couldn’t eat earlier. A couple of tips: there’s a red buoy on the other side of the sand spit from the north side of the villas (seen from villa 204) that marks the point where the reef stops and the drop starts but leading up to that is a short and easy swim path through the reef to see the drop. We discovered this after several days. Watch the sun, I dont usually suncream my legs as they never get burnt (I don’t sunbathe) but they got burnt whilst snorkelling at 11am. The UV is extreme between 9/10 am and 3pm. It’s worth getting up and swimming / snorkelling in the morning and again in the evening, the sea life is better then too. Took us a while to spot the turtles. Look for a roundish brown shape surrounded by sand and then snorkel nearby. They like to dig up the sand to find the food. We didn’t go to Sea as it was too expensive for us but our daughter and family had a lunch there which they all enjoyed. We did go to the sunset soirée that they organised and really enjoyed talking to some of the senior staff about how everything works and getting info from the resident biologist. They provided free champagne too! I doubt we’ll be back as we aren’t rich but we are so delighted to have had this experience.

We have just returned from a family Easter break at Anantara Kihavah Maldives, and cannot recommend it highly enough. The resort itself is so beautiful, stylishly designed, and immaculate in every way. We stayed in the Two Bedroom Family Beach Pool Villa, which was incredibly luxurious, stylish, and comfortable. The bathrooms are ridiculously wonderful! A short few steps from your villa takes you to the beach where breathtaking views greet you, and a short swim to the house reef awaits, offering a plethora of sea life. The service we received was exceptional throughout our stay, with outstanding and delicious meals served at all the beautiful restaurants on the island, and all members of staff across the resort making us feel incredibly welcomed and cared for, in the most discreet of ways. Regarding dining, Spice restaurant was our particular favourite, but special mention must also be given to the incredible underwater Sea, where we dined below the water line, with incredible views of the coral reef and surrounding sea life. The teppanyaki chef’s of Fire were also highly entertaining, whilst serving up mouthwatering Japanese dishes, an experience our teenaged boys highly enjoyed. Zidhan, our Villa host, made our stay so seamless from the moment we arrived, to the moment we departed via sea plane, making us feel so welcome and at ease. He anticipated our every need, making knowledgeable and helpful suggestions to get the most out of our stay, and ensured that this was truly a memorable and wonderful family holiday, never to be forgotten. There are many excursions and special experiences available on the island, our favourites included swimming with nurse sharks, and also an incredible experience of star gazing at the unique Island Observatory. Our host was so knowledgeable and engaged our children wonderfully, a truly special memory of stargazing over the ocean. We cannot recommend Anantara Kihavah highly enough, and would love to return at some point in the future. Thank you sincerely to all the staff that made our stay so very special! The Moxley Family

The Maldives has always been on my list of places to visit and I spent a long time researching which island to visit in advance. I was so pleased with our choice - everything was utterly perfect. Our over water villa was so beautiful, spacious and had everything we could possibly need. The little cuddly toy rays on the children’s pillows on the first night was such a lovely touch. The little hammock over the water was fantastic in the evening and we spent many hours there watching the stars (which are incredible from the Maldives) and saw sharks, multiple varieties of rays and loads of fish swimming right under us. The food was wonderful and the restaurants were never crowded despite the island being fully booked. Service was excellent and the meal we had at Fire was I think the best I have ever had in my life, helped by the glorious sea breeze, beautiful views and the occasional shark we saw swimming right next to us. Our children loved watching the bats fly past the main restaurant and pool area in the evening and the sea life from the under water restaurant was incredible - a huge family of rays swimming past was the highlight. We booked this island specifically for the snorkelling as we wanted somewhere that the kids could experience the amazing coral reef without having to do any tricky swimming or go out on a boat. The house reef really was incredible and you could see an enormous variety of fish within metres of the shore. The staff were all absolutely wonderful, with particular thanks to our villa host Sulhiya and to the night time snorkelling guide who took two of us out for an incredible evening snorkelling trip that our 11year old will remember for the rest of his life. The team who took us out on our dolphin trip were wonderful too - taking time to find the pods for us and then demonstrating the wonderful playful behaviour. Thank you so much for providing our family with such a wonderful experience of the Maldives
