Pros: - hospitality is out of this world; we were really made to feel at home. My husband got sick and the management offered to make him some vegetable soup and rice for dinner, something that did not appear on the normal menu. This is just a small example, but everything you could possibly need will be tended to, and rest assured the staff will go above and beyond to provide. - Delicious and unique food. - Most gorgeous view of the clearest blue water lagoon, with two separate spots for swimming. Water activities were offered as well, and paddle boards to be taken out on your own. - Unfortunately we only had the opportunity to do yoga, but Angela was wonderful and adapted herself and her practice to fit the guests and their past experience. Cons: - Outlets don’t really work so well, so plan on conserving telephone power or brining a power bank. - Lots of mosquitos, but that is to be expected when in nature. - Slightly confusing to get around, and one of the wooden walkways is built with uneven prices of wood which adds to the charm but also adds to the risk of getting your ankle stuck in wood between each step. Tips: bring long sleeved apparel for swimming, as the use of sunscreen is prohibited due to the water’s sensitivity, but the sun is very strong. Overall, our stay at ‘Our Habitas’ was absolutely nothing short of extraordinary, and we look forward to visiting again soon. Highly recommend to those interested in disconnecting from the outside world and connecting with themselves and with nature.

Perfect couples retreat if you want to relax and have the best quality time. The hotel has the best spot in Lake Bacalar to swim around or paddle while enjoying the views. A 7min drive to Bacalar’s historic center if you want to go out for a walk, ice cream, or dinner. The personnel at the hotel were the best, attentive, polite, welcoming, and always showing a smile. Definitely recommend it to anyone seeking a chill vacation.

Avoid This Place – Beautiful Setting, But a Complete Rip-Off Yes, the setting is stunning and a few staff members were genuinely kind. But don’t be fooled — this hotel is nothing more than a polished tourist trap that will ruin your trip and leave you feeling exploited. You’re nothing but a walking cash cow for them. I was too scared to breathe as it might be extra! Plus tip plus tax! From the moment you check in, it’s clear: they’re not here to host you — they’re here to milk you. Every single thing is overpriced to the point of being offensive. Cocktails? 270 pesos each (~14 euros) PLUS tip PLUS a sneaky mystery tax they never explain. Want breakfast? Sure — but don’t expect more than the bare minimum. The included breakfast is a joke. It’s like playing a game of “guess what’s included” — spoiler: almost nothing is. Orange juice? That’s extra. It’s always extra, extra, extra. Plus tip. Plus hidden tax. There is a restaurant, but after one look at the prices, we avoided it like the plague. We went into Bacalar town every day instead, where we had amazing meals and drinks for a third of the cost. Same goes for beer — 120 pesos for a bottle that costs 40 pesos in town. And still, they reminded us “service not included” — even when we fetched our own drinks from the bar. A mediocre bottle of wine starts at 1000 pesos. They just rise you for money. In total, we spent over 6,000 pesos on just a few drinks and a visit to the spa. We weren’t pampered — we were rinsed. It felt like every time we turned around, there was a new charge, a new surprise, a new “that’ll be extra.” Extra. Experiences? Extra. Every moment there was a reminder that they see guests as walking wallets — nothing more. What’s worse is how it made us feel. We didn’t even want to be at the resort. When we moved on to another hotel — same lagoon access, free kayaks, equally beautiful setting — but everything was half the price or less. And most importantly: we felt respected. This hotel is not Bacalar. Bacalar is warm, kind, and unforgettable. The people are honest, the food is incredible, the vibe is relaxed. This place is the greedy exception — a fake luxury facade designed to gouge tourists and ruin their holiday. STAY AWAY. Spend your money where it matters — in Bacalar itself, with the local people, at restaurants and hotels that actually deserve it. This place doesn’t. Bacalar its people and its restaurants are unforgettable! This place is just one I’d like to forget.
