In the fashion of a traditional Balinese village â€" with the addition of modern luxuries, of course â€" the tranquil Alila Ubud resort helps to center mind, body and spirit. Its stunning architecture captures contemporary design philosophy while incorporating traditional elements of style. Cradled along the banks of the Ayung River within lush Balinese foothills, guests retreat into a collection of the resort's chic rooms and freestanding, stilt-supported villas. The juxtaposition of contrasting elements creates a uniquely timeless feel, with contemporary concrete appointments beneath conventional thatched roofs, or modern terrazzo tiles beside aged and crushed rock. Expect all the lavish comforts of an exclusive resort, like private terraces and clandestine courtyards, open-air bathrooms and airy showers, private plunge pools and secluded sundecks, to name a few.

The only redeeming feature at this hotel is the lovely swimming pool. We stayed in a hillside room and were glad it was only for 2 nights. The room was depressing, dark and outdated. A tiny bathroom area that you could barely move in and a balcony that was a waste of time due to the monkey visitors. I love wildlife and nature but they are quite a nuisance and even stole the cushions off ours chairs, which actually was quite amusing and annoying at the same time…a strange wooden window behind the bed gave a direct view into the bathtub of the guests in the room below us along with the ability to hear their conversation all through the evening. The breakfast was uninspiring, not great quality and the service a little slow. It took 3 attempts to get our coffee this morning despite us being the only ones there at the time…we had previously stayed at Alila Villas in Uluwatu which was outstanding. This place needs a lot of attention. Please get rid of that hideous grubby looking black box that you come around to serve the breakfast pastries from. Yuck!

This is not a place for anyone with accessibility problems. Aged or with babies. Rooms are small. Bathroom small badly designed with rain head shower wetting you whilst regulating the temperature of water. No heat regulator on water easily to get burnt. Slippery flooring once wet easy fall risk. Way too many steps to get to your room or any where else. At least 100 steps to pool area. 50 steps to dining room. Monkeys marauding around resort stopping you from leaving your room as 8 of them sat outside our door.

Our stay at Alila Ubud was nothing short of perfection, truly a five-star experience. From the moment we arrived, everything felt effortless and serene. The room was absolutely divine: beautifully designed, peaceful, and surrounded by lush jungle views that made it hard to leave. The food was immense, every meal was thoughtfully prepared, full of flavor, and a genuine highlight of our stay. Whether it was breakfast overlooking the tropical forest or dinner under the stars, it was consistently exceptional. What truly made the experience unforgettable, though, was the staff. They were beyond amazing, warm, attentive, and always going above and beyond to make us feel special. We left feeling completely relaxed and already dreaming of coming back. Alila Ubud is something truly special.
