Hotel Tugu Bali

One of my fav things here is that this hotel has real character. Not modern-minimalist, but rich, historic, and full of artifacts. It’s like sleeping inside an art gallery. The room was huge, beautifully decorated, giving off a classy romantic vibe. Loved the bath area a bit too much. Aside from the room, the beach access is super easy (1min walk), the bar makes excellent cocktails, food was solid 10/10 and the spa treatment was one of the best I’ve had in Bali. Also for this sanctuary, it's located in a very strategic spot. Staffs were amazing too!

Lovely place to stay, the people were amazing, the accommodation and hotel were tranquil. No complaints. Location was perfect. Walkable to all the great spots.

This experience also completely dispelled any misconceptions that hospitality here favors only foreign guests. As local guests, we were treated with incredible respect, warmth, and care. It was truly a great experience. A little backstory: Hotel Tugu has always held a special place in our journey. Back when we were still dating, we had visited the hotel area several times and always admired its atmosphere, heritage, and soul. Yet, we never had the chance to stay overnight. Until finally, fate brought us here at the most beautiful moment of our lives — our honeymoon. It truly felt like everything happened at exactly the right time - Astungkara Thank you, Hotel Tugu Bali, for being part of the beginning of our life as husband and wife. The friendly and attentive staff welcomed us with flowers and a drink. Our room, a Dedari suite was larger than expected with very comfortable sofa and chair. The configuration of the rooms grantees full privacy.Attention to detail is everywhere: incense and mosquito coils burning, room cleaning done promptly when you exit the room, and every request was accommodated. The poi ponds throughout the property were lovely. The landscaping is well maintained. We enjoyed our sushi meals at Ji on 2 nights. The fish was fresh and presentation on a smoking dragon boat was photo worthy. I was pampered like a princess during my keraton leha-leha spa package. My partner simultaneously received a surfer’s massage which he recommended. I was also pleased with my mani-pedi. The ambience in the spa is serene and promoted complete relaxation. A lot has been reviewed about nearby noise, but I am happy to report that we slept soundly for 10 hours, without interruption. We only left the resort once to go to the beach. We preferred the hotel pool to the beach as the beach was not particularly clean. We would love to return.

The Tugu was the first hotel built to be built in Canggu. It remained the only hotel for about 20 years until the late 2000's when the surrounding rice fields started turning into other hotels, villas, shops and restaurants. It's a living museum as the owner, one of indonesia's greatest collectors of the countries art and antiques, built it to house and honour these beautiful objects. So it's a very special place and staying there surrounded by all of this history makes for a very unique Balinese experience. There are things of beauty to discover throughout the property including in each individual room. We stayed in one of the Dedari Suites which was spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast can be enjoyed anywhere in the property and was excellent. There are lots of other dining options available including a fantastic japanese restaurant. The grounds are beautiful and include a large lotus pond. The pool is serene and doesn't ever seem to be crowded. Staff are all lovely and make you feel like family. The hotel is in the middle of Canggu's action and that can mean some external sounds filter through the property but it didn't worry us. In some ways it's a plus as we could walk everywhere (beach is 2 minutes away). Overall it was a wonderful stay and I highly recommend The Tugu as a unique, truly local Balinese experience.
