Kupu Kupu Barong

My wife and I stayed at Kupu Kupu as the grand finale of our honeymoon and trip to Bali, and overall it was a truly memorable experience. While we’ve given the hotel 4 out of 5 stars because we feel there are a couple of areas that could be improved, there is so much that Kupu Kupu gets absolutely right. Service – 100/10 The service was honestly exceptional and one of the best we’ve experienced anywhere. There were always staff members available to help, and we had dedicated butlers who knew our schedule, collected us in a buggy whenever we needed to get around the resort, and were always happy to assist. One evening we ordered food from outside the hotel, and they even delivered it directly to our room. Nothing ever seemed like too much trouble, and the hospitality was genuinely outstanding. Location – Perfect for a Relaxing Stay The location was ideal for us. The hotel is beautifully positioned overlooking a stunning gorge with a river flowing through it, surrounded by lush rainforest. Waking up to the sounds of nature every morning was incredible. We regularly used Grab bikes, and it was only around 20 minutes into the centre of Ubud—close enough to explore whenever we wanted, but far enough away to enjoy complete peace and tranquillity. Included Activities – A Fantastic Bonus One of the biggest highlights was the number of complimentary activities included with stays of more than three nights. We enjoyed white-water rafting, a one-hour spa massage, a guided rainforest walk, and a sidecar adventure. The rainforest walk was one of the highlights of our entire Bali trip. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, took us to a local family who produced honey, and gave us a real insight into how people in the area live. It felt authentic and was something we’ll remember for a long time. Facilities Our room was beautiful and had breathtaking views over the gorge, river, and rainforest. The whole resort blends perfectly into the surrounding landscape and really captures the beauty of Bali. The only issue we experienced was that the bath tap leaked, creating a constant dripping noise throughout our first night. We solved the problem ourselves by emptying the bath, but it’s something I would expect to be fixed promptly in a five-star hotel. Food This was probably the biggest disappointment of our stay and the main reason we haven’t awarded five stars. For our final evening of our honeymoon, we booked one of the hotel’s romantic private dining experiences by the pool near reception (the twilight dinner). The setting was beautiful, intimate, and incredibly romantic, but unfortunately the food didn’t match the experience. The smoked salmon didn’t taste particularly fresh, and overall the meal felt average rather than exceptional. At around $102 USD per person, especially in Bali where there is so much outstanding food available at much lower prices, we expected a true five-star dining experience. As the evening went on there were also quite a few insects, including wasps, around our table, which made it a little uncomfortable. While we appreciate this is difficult to avoid in a tropical setting, it did affect what was meant to be a special meal. Overall Despite those few criticisms, we had an amazing stay and would happily recommend Kupu Kupu to anyone visiting Bali, particularly couples looking for a peaceful and luxurious retreat. The staff, location, activities, and overall atmosphere made our honeymoon incredibly special. If the hotel were to improve the quality of its signature dining experience and pay a little more attention to small maintenance issues, it would easily deserve a full five stars. This was a birthday lunch. It was absolutely awesome. Our waiters Palestiba and Danti were fantastic. The location, the food and the service could not be faulted.

Absolutely amazing experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome with their genuine kindness and amazing service. The food was absolutely incredible—fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavour. I recommend the biryani. If you’re looking for delicious food and outstanding hospitality, I can’t recommend this place enough. We’ll definitely be coming back the next time we’re in Bali. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
