We stayed in the Bougainvillea garden villa, room 204—a tranquil retreat set amid lush tropical greenery. The villa’s private 10x7m pool is framed by vibrant gardens, three generous ponds, and a charming pool house equipped with loungers and a dining table for four. Designed in classic Indonesian style, the grounds feature lovely lava rock walls that add an earthy elegance to the space. Inside, the bedroom offers a spacious layout with a large double bed in a space of approximately 25sqm, while the bathroom combines a sunken tub and walk-in shower combo, all clad in natural stone. Though the furnishings throughout show wear, everything functions well, and the lovely garden and outdoor setting more than make up for aesthetic shortcomings. From the moment we arrived, the staff were consistently warm, helpful, and remarkably kind—going well beyond what you’d expect at a five-star resort. Breakfast, served by the beach, was plentiful and delicious, with exceptional service. The resort has two restaurants and a bar; the main restaurant serves dinner. Unfortunately, dining options in the immediate vicinity are scarce, if you have a sensitive tummy, leaving guests reliant on the hotel’s offerings. While the menu includes European, Indian, and local dishes, a bit more variety would elevate the experience. Outside the resort, Denpasar—just beyond the gated entrance—is not especially appealing. Budget tourism chaos. The beach itself, while a nice stretch of sand and carefully maintained by the resort, doesn’t quite live up to the “beach resort” label. There are no hotel loungers provided on the sand, and red flags prohibited swimming during our stay. Most of those in the water were public surfers, not hotel guests. One downside to our otherwise lovely experience was the presence of two municipal drainage streams along the property’s perimeter. At times, the smell reached the villa’s pool area, although the hotel does attempt to mitigate it with incense. It wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, but guests sensitive to smells may want to avoid villas near the boundary walls. Our main point of frustration was housekeeping. In a property this beautiful, especially with outdoor living being such a highlight, it was disappointing to find that outdoor cleaning and towel replacement happened late in the afternoon. Morning setup would have enhanced the experience enormously—a detail that seems to have escaped the management’s attention. Despite a few flaws, the Oberoi’s garden villas offer an enchanting escape.

Admittedly we are a bit hooked. The Oberoi Beach Resort in Seminyak, Bali, is probably our most favorite spot to just hang out and relax for a few days. The setting on Kayu Aya beach is unmatched. The Oberoi is small enough to make you feel as part of the family, yet it offers all the luxury one could hope for. All staff (from the gardeners to the concierge) are incredibly attentive, friendly and helpful, accommodating all our wishes - thank you so much to all of you. Our Garden Lanai room was a well appointed, tranquil oasis. We enjoyed the pool overlooking the ocean and the little snacks offered by the very polite staff. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the setting at dusk very romantic. The highlight experience was the releasing the baby turtles into the ocean. The Oberoi team protects the turtele eggs laid on the beach in front of the hotel and once the turtles are hatched allows guests to release the turtles into the sea. Hope our little one will grow up and come back to lay more eggs. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Oberoi Bali tremendously and look forward to go back.
