Set into a verdant hillside, Pita Maha Resort & Spa wows guests with sweeping views across the Tjampuhan Ridge and the River Oos below. This boutique hotel is located in Bali’s cultural heartland of Ubud, which is proud of its charming, small artist enclaves. The breezy lobby affords gorgeous vistas of the surrounding tropical woodlands and rice terraces, while guests sip Brem Barong upon arrival. The resort encompasses 24 private pool villas scattered across the slope in a style reminiscent of a Balinese village. Guest accommodations blend light-filled interiors with nature outdoors by way of floor-to-ceiling windows and the far wall nearly entirely comprised of large sliding glass doors. All villas are decorated in contemporary Balinese fashion with intricate carvings, original artwork and patterns balanced by modern amenities like flat-screen televisions and mini bars. Bathrooms are outfitted with separate showers and sunken bathtubs.

We had a wonderful time in Pita Maha! The resort is just like in photos, very gentle staff, bedroom is big and the view is great. We had a dinner in the restaurant and it was excellent. Also the pool is breathtaking. Stay here if you want to feel like being in ancient royal Bali.

We booked this property based on its good reviews but it didn't meet our expectations so felt we should report on our experiences. Firstly, the positives are the setting of the property on a cliffs edge overlooking the jungle which is spectacular, lovely infinity pool setting, lovely gardens and statues. Housekeeping, room service, gardening, security, welcoming ladies on the front entrance were so nice and helpful. The property is steep with numerous stairs and is not suitable for anyone with mobility, knee, hip etc issues. We stayed in a Delux 2 bedroom villa which was on 2 levels with a steep staircase. The villa had dim lighting with a very dark wood interior which made it hard to see things and needs an upgrade. The wooden cupboards around the fridge area were coming off their hinges. Frogs, geckos and other insects were able to get into the villa which didn't bother us as its part of the experience of staying in a jungle area, but may bother others. Breakfast was "ok". We found our communications with the reception and manager staff to be awkward/uncomfortable; not sure if it was the language barrier or if those staff need more training in dealing with tourists to make their experience more relaxed, jovial, fun. There was too much pushing to book for massage, river rafting, resort dinners. There were no yoga classes at the resort. The resort did book a driver for us for a day to visit sights which went well. We caught the resort shuttle into the town which drops off at a central museum carpark area. We intended to go to the monkey forest which then involved us haggling with a number of taxi drivers who were sitting around that carpark. Once agreed on the price, to our surprise the taxi driver took off on a motorbike before returning 20 minutes later with his car! Traffic is diabolical and we stood there in the heat waiting for him to return. In hindsight we should have booked a taxi directly from the resort but the reception staff said it would be 30 mins wait for the taxi. Despite the stress of trying to get there, the monkey forest was an excellent excursion. We had dinners at the Indus Restaurant nearby (a few mins walk away). Food was delicious and excellent staff and views. There is a small mini mart next door to the resort. In summary we would not recommend this property. Due to a lack of taxis/gojeks etc and shocking traffic jams, it makes more sense to stay central to the town for ease of walking to/from the shops/cafes/restaurants. Or to stay on the side of the town which is closer to the excursions so you don't have to deal with getting through the traffic.

This hotel is a hidden gem set in the most amazing scenery. We were unfortunately caught in the Heathrow chaos but Mr Joni was unbelievably accommodating and so helpful with changing our booking to ensure we still had a beautiful holiday. Our villa was spectacular and so pretty. The hotel has a stunning natural setting and exceptional aesthetics. The entire facility consists of delightful villas surrounded by greenery. Every comfort for guests has been thoughtfully considered. Additionally, the staff are very polite and attentive. The infinity pool is impressively located with a breath taking view and overlooks the jungle. The room we had was beautifully designed, well-organised, and equipped with all necessities you can think of. The kindness and availability of the staff is unparalleled. I left my watch charger and only realised when I was in another hotel. Mr Joni went above and beyond and booked a Grab to deliver this to me. It was my fault but Mr Joni was seamlessly caring and rushed to help me immediately. A great hotel to soak in the Balinese culture and art, and enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds. Thank you Mr Joni again for making our stay memorable and also, a huge thank you to your amazing staff.
