About the Hotel

If Royal Pita Maha feels unusually regal, there is good reason. This divine retreat is owned and managed by the royal family of Ubud, in Southeast Bali. With their lush landscaping, the Royal House, Royal Villas and Pool Villas are gracefully integrated into the setting of sweeping rice terraces, river gorges and tropical woodlands. Fodor's declares the accommodations "tastefully luxurious," and you will agree as you relish your own pool with views of the Ayung River and an overwhelming oneness with nature in this place of reflection, healing and serenity.

Overpriced and arrogant

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Upfront experience was a shocker with high headed and arrogant reception staff... less mannerful n stubborn, it spoilt the taste of being there, it included a male as well as female staff , on too different occasions, such arrogance n less welcoming attitude has rarely been experienced in my travel to over 40 countries, worldwide, including US & UK. Hotel is scenic n located in beautiful surroundings. River flowing at the base is ultimate experience. Cottages are just average and highly overpriced. Only solace , beautiful surroundings. Dining and spa staff was very polite and courteous, but reception blew it up, both times. They really need to train the reception staff. Check out time cab, they called from taxi stand and loaded it with additional 2 million rupaiah indonesian hotel commission ! Never witnessed before. Overall, although in beautiful surroundings, it is highly overpriced, limited cuisine, arrogant reception. Would not like to go there again.

Royal Pita Maha Resort - A Stunning Retreat in Ubud, Bali

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Royal Pita Maha Resort in Ubud, Bali, and overall, it was an unforgettable experience. The resort is nestled above the Ayung River, offering breathtaking views and a tranquil atmosphere. The property spans a substantial area with tiered levels, and there’s a range of accommodation options to suit different budgets. We stayed in a Royal Villa with a private pool, which was a luxurious choice, although there were a few small issues we encountered along the way. Arrival & Check-In From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome. The Front Office Manager greeted us with a refreshing welcome drink and a cool towel, which was a lovely touch after our long journey. The check-in process was smooth and conducted away from the main desk, which gave it a personal and relaxed feel. We were then escorted to our villa, walking through a winding path that led us past ornate stone and wood carvings, all steeped in Balinese culture and religious significance. The large stone centrepiece at the entrance of the resort was particularly striking and really set the tone for what was to come. The Royal Villa Upon entering our Royal Villa, we were in awe of its beauty and size. The spacious bedroom featured a grand four-poster super king bed, draped with floor-to-ceiling mosquito netting, elegantly gathered at each corner. The curtains were drawn back to reveal a large private swimming pool, with stunning views over the valley below. Inside, there was a large TV, a comfy couch, and a table for reading or going through the room service menu. The bathroom was large and well-appointed, featuring his and hers vanity sinks, bright-lit mirrors, and a beautiful rain shower. A huge sunken bath was also available, perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. There was a second sitting room, which had a second TV and a settee with two comfortable chairs. This room also had access to the pool and sunbeds, as well as a minibar and coffee/tea facilities in a stylish cabinet. The outside shower, stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, was another lovely touch. Overall, the villa was incredibly peaceful, making it the perfect place to unwind and enjoy both morning swims and evening sunsets. Dining Experience We had breakfast every morning at the dedicated breakfast area, located just below the lobby. The selection was extensive, and the quality of the food was excellent. We really enjoyed the variety of dishes, and the service was consistently top-notch. For dinner, we decided to eat at the main restaurant. While the food was tasty, the menu felt a little outdated. For instance, the seafood/salad appetiser was just two small prawns on a mound of celery-like material, drenched in seafood sauce—not quite what we expected at such a highly rated resort. The mains were enjoyable but lacked the presentation and creativity we anticipated. The service was a bit too attentive at times, with staff standing nearby ready to clear our plates as soon as we finished. Resort Facilities & Accessibility The resort’s layout, while beautiful, does come with some challenges. Due to its tiered design, there are a lot of steps to navigate. While this wasn’t an issue for us, those with mobility challenges might find it difficult to get around. For example, the main swimming pool is a bit of a hike from the lobby, with several flights of stairs to descend. My wife, despite wearing proper walking shoes, found the stone paths a bit slippery, so this is something to keep in mind when choosing your accommodation. Departure Experience When it came time to check out, we had a small issue with the finalisation of the bill. After processing the payment, the desk agent mistakenly placed my credit card into his jacket pocket instead of handing it back to me directly. While this was likely meant as a light-hearted joke, it was a bit unprofessional and left us feeling a little uncomfortable. Given the high standards of the resort, we expected a more polished approach to this part of the experience. Final Thoughts Despite a few minor drawbacks, our overall experience at the Royal Pita Maha was positive. The setting is absolutely stunning, and the villas provide a high level of privacy and luxury. The service was warm and welcoming, though there were a few moments where it could have been a bit more polished. Would we return? Probably not, but we are grateful for the opportunity to experience such a unique and beautiful resort. For those considering a stay, I’d recommend it for the setting and the peace it offers—just be mindful of the accessibility issues if you have mobility concerns. Tip: The resort offers a convenient shuttle service to the Museum Puri Lukisan in central Ubud, which makes exploring the area a breeze. Be sure to ask the resort for the shuttle schedule if you plan to head into town.

Wonderful Ubud Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The Royal Pita Maha is a stunning hotel in traditional Balinese design. The public spaces and rooms feature Balinese art and sandstone carvings. The hospitality of the entire staff is exceptional and they made us feel like family. The rooms are very comfortable and the food in the dining room is gourmet. I highly recommend this hotel when staying in Ubud.

Royal Pita Maha was by far the highlight of our accommodations in Bali. The grounds were beautiful and the rooms graciously appointed. A perfect evening was spent on our villa balcony sipping a lovely sauvignon blanc as the sun slipped away behind the resort and a cool breeze reminded us of why we prefer the inland mountains to the coast. The staff was friendly, attentive and professional. They truly went above and beyond to assure that we will return to Ubud and Royal Pita Maha again.

We just returned from Bali and during our trip we stayed four nights at the Royal Pita Maha using a package we purchased through Luxury Link. What a fabulous place! Not only are the accommodations first class, but the service is outstanding. We've traveled all over the world and this is one of the best places we've ever stayed.

Royal Pita Maha in Bali was an amazing experience. The property is one of the most stunning we have ever experienced. The rooms are very large villas and each have a private infinity pool. The service was impeccable - the staff was warm, gentle and so attentive. Yoga by the river was so special. We spent almost 2 days just exploring the property. The grounds were stunning, food was wonderful and spa was the finest treatments we have ever enjoyed. The spa area is very private and takes place in a two story villa, a great couples retreat. Can't say enough good things about the property. Luxury Link visitors were considered very special and the extra services and amenities were a delight.
