If ever there was a way to compromise between cultural intrigue of Bangkok’s bustling streets and a relaxing retreat to one of Thailand’s coastal destinations, this is it: Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa, a 400-room resort that presides over the city’s main aquatic artery. Chill out in dense tropical gardens at the edge of one of the largest outdoor pools in Bangkok before a day on the town, returning to a room outfitted in Thai silks and warm hardwoods.

When looking for a hotel in a known busy city we always try and find the 'oasis of calm' to come back to.Anantara Riverside is that place. With sister hotel Avani towering behind,Anantara sits and commands its position on the Chao Phraya river, amazing traffic chugging and speeding past, neon lit dinner cruises then massive barges.Their own shuttle boat takes you to a metro train station to explore the city further or further to ICONSIAM mall for retail therapy. Great welcome arrival, water ceremony, room allocation with river view. This hotel is big,we got lost...who cares?every corner reveals some artefact or surprise its fun losing your way. The room, upgraded by the hotel to a suite, was large, opulent and super comfy.Nightly turndown. We utilised Mocha and Muffin for coffee and snacks,Elephant Bar for drinks and the main buffet for breakfast. There was an extensive Asian choice, limited european options in my opinion...nevertheless we never left hungry...you just need to recalibrate your tastebuds! We used the hotel shuttleboat one day, the second we booked a tour via the tour desk( TUi run) ..yes,it was expensive,it could be done cheaper with a group or a private tour but we opted for a private tour with guide and driver. We are so glad we did, Bangkok was hot, sticky, extremely busy and our guide Jerry went at our pace( slow),navigated obstacles and problems and illuminated Thai culture and religion.A great ,packed 5 hours. This hotel has charm, ambience, sophistication and class, the staff were all super, engaging and helpful. And calm.Even when we experienced a personal hiccup in our stay it was dealt with, ultimately in a totally satisfactory way that reflects so well on the Anantara/Minor Hotels ethos of customer care. We were giving Riverside five stars in day one, by day three we would give another. It was a short stay,we moved on, Anantara customer service appreciated the feedback I gave them in a human forward facing way.Total respect. Would we come back? Absolutely 100%. Special mention to Mod in Mocha,Mind and Methew on reception and Ms Lommatta,Front of house reception. Great job folks.

All staff were friendly and engaging. I particularly enjoyed the variety of breakfast available. The spa and associated treatment was also great. I enjoyed hanging out at the Mocha and Muffins cafe, which provided great coffee and snacks. I used the hotel boat to travel to the Icon Siam Mall, which was awesome and super convenient. My room (Deluxe River View) was unfortunately quite dated and the balcony was not fit for purpose, owing to its limited size. The pool was also crowded and sun beds were in high demand. The hotel has real potential, but needs a refurbishment in certain areas.

We recently enjoyed a 3 night stay in this sanctuary in the heart of a hectic city. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a junior suite, with river view, which gave us plenty of space. A couple of negatives - the room decor was a little dated and the rooms were not soundproof from the traffic and boat noise - something that you do expect in city hotels. Our highlight was the Klong Guru tour - so convenient leaving right from the hotel jetty and an opportunity to easily explore some of Bangkok. Our guide could not have been more accomodating - I would highly recommend! The grounds are just stunning and I wish we had longer to enjoy the facilities - but between sightseeing, shopping and exploring we did manage to fit in a couple of swims in the pool and it was great that there were attentive lifeguards on duty. My 4 year old enjoyed a short time at kids club and, while small, he loved his time playing there and didn’t want to leave, while my 11 year old and I enjoyed massages at the day spa.
