If ever there was a way to compromise between cultural intrigue of Bangkok’s bustling streets and a relaxing retreat to one of Thailand’s coastal destinations, this is it: Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa, a 400-room resort that presides over the city’s main aquatic artery. Chill out in dense tropical gardens at the edge of one of the largest outdoor pools in Bangkok before a day on the town, returning to a room outfitted in Thai silks and warm hardwoods.

Our stay at Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort was perfect! The hotel is beautiful, with stunning grounds and a peaceful riverside setting. Our room was spotless, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Every staff member was warm, friendly and genuinely welcoming, making us feel right at home. The facilities were excellent, and the buffet breakfast was one of the best we've ever had, with an amazing variety of delicious food. We only stayed for two nights, but we wish we'd booked longer. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Bangkok.

We had a layover in Bangkok on our way to Hong Kong and chose to stay at the Anantara because we wanted to take the dinner cruise. This hotel did not disappoint. It was a wonderful stay from top to bottom. We wanted more than one night here and we will be back

We stayed for a week and found the hotel to be an oasis in the hectic city. The boat shuttles were so handy when we wanted to go shopping. The service throughout was amazing. The breakfast buffet was of a very high quality - definitely five star! The pool area is surrounded by tropical flowers and trees. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and have all the amenities one could possibly need. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Anantara Riverside to anyone visiting Bangkok.

Carrying our wonderful memories from two years ago, booking Anantara Riverside for a six night stay again was something extremely exciting to us. Upon arrival, we were greeted by reception staff who provided a cordial welcome. We were requested to book our allocated cooking class, we explained we were vegetarian and were told staff would inform us of our class day and time. Time has passed by and no communication. We were escorted to our room and we noticed extensive works going on in the pool area cutting the usable space approximately in half. This in itself is no problem but we would’ve anticipated being informed of this in advance of our extensive holiday yet we were not. Not being kept informed can only lead to disappointment. The smell from the tributary from the river running through the property is bad, being in the pool area we get wafts of this smell consistently, smells remain unabated. Yet the worst aspect is that several openings to the pool area have closed due to the works and there is now only one while the works continue, this happens to be as far away from our room as humanly possible. Given I am an elderly gent this walk is difficult and at times, challenging. We were not given an option with our room even though it is obvious I’m elderly and no mention was made of a single opening to the pool area. Our room is well appointed, good facilities and good cleaning staff, just too far from everything that is valuable to us. The one saving grace is that the wonderful breakfast and breakfast staff remain. The quality of the buffet breakfast is exceptional and it is indeed a delight that several staff members including Noi, Lala, Mint and Milktea recognised us from our last time here greeted us very warmly. That was indeed special given reception were not aware of our other stay and no recognition of ‘welcome back’. The general ambience/maintenance of the hotel has diminished and it appears either there has been a change in upper level management or in budgetry considerations as some of the hotel is in need of repair to regain its status as one of the best hotels in Bangkok. As the director of a travel company, we are often realistic about our expectations but in this instance have been disappointed by the lack of communication and the general diminishing service level. I will post again after our six nights are concluded and advise how or if any of these experiences have changed our view. We hope so.
