Riverside Perfection at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok is everything you’d expect from one of the world’s most iconic hotels. We stayed in the elegant Le Carré Suite, which offered stunning panoramic views over the Chao Phraya River—perfect for watching Bangkok come to life. The facilities are exceptional, from the beautiful riverside pool and world-class spa to the impeccable service throughout the hotel. Breakfast is a highlight, with an extensive selection of both international and Thai dishes served overlooking the river. A timeless luxury hotel that combines heritage, outstanding hospitality, and one of the best riverfront locations in Bangkok. An unforgettable stay.

No hot water. Terrible Customer Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Absolutely terrible service. There was no hot water in my shower after a long journey. After trying every configuration of the knobs, I gave up. Upon check out I informed management and they just shrugged. Shameful treatment from Tawatchai.

When a guest has experienced service failures during a previous stay, returning to the hotel should come with greater at

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

To provide some context, my previous stay at the hotel was in 2022. During that visit, there were several minor issues throughout my stay. Although I did not make a formal complaint, I spoke with the Front Office Manager before checking out and mentioned that a hotel of this standard should not be making mistakes so frequently. One or two days after checkout, I received an email from the Reservation Manager thanking me for staying with the hotel, but also informing me that I had an outstanding balance of THB 3,000, along with a payment link. This was extremely disappointing. From my perspective, if there was indeed an outstanding balance, it meant that something had gone wrong within the hotel’s own process. What I expected was a phone call explaining the situation and offering an apology before asking for payment, rather than receiving a simple email. I requested a call back, but instead of hearing from the person who had sent the email, I was contacted by the Duty Manager. Although I eventually paid the balance, the entire experience left such a negative impression that I chose not to return for several years. Four years later, the hotel’s 150th Anniversary promotion encouraged me to give Mandarin Oriental another chance. Before my arrival, I sent an honest email explaining my previous experience and simply asked whether the hotel could pay a little extra attention to my stay. The email was copied to several departments, and I even received a phone call assuring me that my concerns had been noted and that my stay would be properly looked after. Naturally, I believed everything had been arranged. Unfortunately, upon arrival, I immediately discovered that none of this information had been recorded in the system. I was assigned a Deluxe Premium Room, despite our previous discussion that I would be accommodated in a State Room. At that moment, I felt both disappointed and frustrated. It was disheartening to see a similar communication failure happen again, despite the hotel having ample time to prepare and being fully aware of my previous experience. Shortly afterwards, the Front Office Manager personally came to speak with me, sincerely apologised, and resolved the situation immediately. My room was upgraded as previously promised, the welcome amenity was changed from a bottle of red wine to Sparkling Wine, and the hotel kindly offered a complimentary dinner for two as a gesture of goodwill. I genuinely appreciated the professionalism and sincerity shown by the team in recovering the situation. To be completely honest, however, compensation was never what I was looking for. All I wanted was for the room arrangement that had been promised to be honoured from the beginning. When the mistake happened, I admit that I was upset, and when the Front Office team offered compensation, I accepted it out of respect for their genuine effort to make things right. As time passed, however, I found myself feeling somewhat uncomfortable about accepting the complimentary dinner. My original intention during this trip had always been to support the hotel’s restaurants anyway, so receiving the meal free of charge was never something I had expected or asked for. For that reason, I intend to return to enjoy Afternoon Tea and dinner at Baan Phraya in the future. I have not yet decided on the exact date, but hopefully sometime around mid-August, as I would still like to support the hotel’s dining venues as originally planned. Although everything was eventually resolved, the disappointment I experienced during check-in could not simply be erased. Had the internal communication been handled properly from the start, the entire situation could have been avoided. Fortunately, I also had the pleasure of meeting Khun Yui again, who has moved from The St. Regis Bangkok to become the Assistant Food & Beverage Manager here. Seeing someone who had taken such good care of me years ago genuinely made the rest of my stay much more enjoyable. Breakfast (Verandah) The breakfast was of very good quality with an excellent selection. Fresh coconut water and sparkling wine were both available, and every member of the restaurant team was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Lord Jim’s Overall, the dinner was enjoyable. Some dishes were excellent, while others could still be improved. Seafood remains the highlight, although I believe a greater variety of dishes would make the experience even better. The China House The service was attentive, and the food was pleasant overall. While the flavours were enjoyable, there is still room for refinement. Overall The staff across many departments, especially the restaurant teams and those who stepped in to resolve the situation, demonstrated genuine care and professionalism, and they deserve recognition for their efforts. However, what remains disappointing is that the root cause of this experience was an internal communication failure, something that should have been entirely preventable. Since the hotel was already aware of my previous experience and had assured me that special attention would be given to this stay, I genuinely expected the same mistake would not happen again. I firmly believe that recovering from a mistake is important. However, for a hotel of this calibre, preventing the mistake from happening in the first place is even more important. A guest’s impression begins the moment they arrive at reception, and once that first impression is affected, even the most sincere recovery cannot completely restore the experience.

A Legend That Keeps Its Promise

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok for three nights on a business trip, and once again this grande dame reminded me why she remains one of the world's truly great hotels. What sets this property apart is its people. The staff here are amongst the best trained and most genuinely friendly I have encountered anywhere in the world — warm without being intrusive, anticipating rather than reacting, and always with a sincere smile. That level of consistency across every touchpoint is exceptionally rare. Breakfast on the river is a highlight in itself — a wonderful venue, beautifully executed. And the bar is simply fantastic: great atmosphere, superb drinks, and the perfect way to end a long day of meetings. As my stay was business-focused, I didn't have the chance to enjoy the spa or many of the other outlets — all the more reason to return. Without hesitation: one of the finest hotels in Asia, and indeed the world. I look forward to being back.

One of my favourite hotels to stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I have stayed at MO Bangkok a couple times now and I cannot rate it highly enough. The service is what makes this property outstanding. Mr. Kidd our driver was the most delightful man and we looked forward to every journey with him. Every single person during our stay made us feel like we were the most important guest at the hotel. I will never stay anywhere else in Bangkok. The property is beautifully kept and has so much traditional charm. The location is unbeatable. This was my husband's first time staying and he agrees, we will never stay anywhere else.
