My wife and I stay at the Shangri la as we love the service and attention to detail given by the staff, especially at the Horizon Club. This year we had to return to Australia urgently because of a complication my wife incurred from a previous operation. I could not give enough praise to the staff at the Horizen Club ( Sasa, Wannisa, Oui and Ploy) for their assistance, empathy and consideration in assisting us with leaving early. Nothing was a problem for them. I hope that hotel management see this review and they compliment their staff for the excellent service given to us, it was truely appreciated.

Service & standards as you'd expect, beautiful room with fabulous views. We checked in late evening following a long haul flight when there were fewer staff on reception. We hadn't waited long, but they immediately apologized, recognised it was our first stay with the hotel brand and that we'd booked room only and gave us breakfast for our time there, top service, totally unexpected & very kind! Enjoyed our stay here, perfectly located for getting around Bangkok, near the BTS & boats, great views across the river. Created a great start to our holiday travels.

Not the glamorous hotel any more.

The Krungthep wing of this hotel used to be the more exclusive, offering bigger rooms , seperate breakfast room and good bar and snack service. All this has gone and the Krungthep wing is just spare rooms for the main wing. No breakast , no service , balconies that can't be used because of the bridge noise and no flowers inside. It gives the impression of being almost dead . The main wing is relatively unchanged ; the lounge is one of the nicest in Bangkok and the restaurants all serve great food. There is still the ponderous check in and check out procedures. It is sad but it is only a shadow of what it used to be.

Not a 5 star hotel

We just checked in, and this was by far the worst welcome I have ever experienced at a five-star hotel. Due to a flight delay in Los Angeles, we missed our first night. While I understand hotel policies, the complete lack of empathy or even a simple apology from the front desk after an exhausting journey was unacceptable. Our rooms were not connected as requested, no effort was made to resolve the issue, and no consideration was offered for the missed night. The receptionist’s cold and dismissive attitude made the experience even worse. As a person who manages staff, I find this level of service indefensible. A hotel of this caliber should prioritize professionalism, courtesy, and guest care. Unfortunately, this property failed on all counts.

Not Really Five Star or Worth the Money

The Shangri-La is comfortable with a good breakfast. It's more like a good two or three star hotel due to cost cutting. For example, the bathroom does not have soap, so the bath is uesless unless you want to run to and fro to the shower for the liquid detergent. Also, fruit juice at breakfast is not fresh, I'm not even sure it is pure juice. There is some real juice outside but not much choice. Most of the rest of breakfast is good and it's good to see Shangri-La is still one of the few hotels to supply real bread. This isn't a bad notel it just isn't worth the price, it's on the river but there is no longer a promenade along the river front, just the hotel grounds.

I noticed that I had lost all the documentation pertaining to my booking as I was checking in at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. It did not seem to matter, since they had all the details of my booking, and to my great surprise I was given an upgrade in the King Kungthrup Wing. An unforgettable experience.
