Rooms Beautiful vey comfortable beds but hardly any sockets! Gym was well equipped, beautiful pool. Best part was the sauna steam room and jacuzzi in the changing rooms. Loved it! My first stay at this Shangri-La with my young family and I was not disappointed. Check-in was very smooth though the walk to the Krungthep Wing was interesting. We found that walking around the pools was the shorter option. The two rooms were very close by and the balcony overlooking Chao Phraya river were fantastic. The rooms were of a good size, well equipped and the welcome mini bar was a nice touch. The two pools are of a good size and my girls were very happy as they could jump and play in the main pool, due to its depth. It was nice and a little surprising to see so many families stay at the hotel. The pool service was excellent and the food delicious, though a tad expensive. Breakfast was incredible, some of which were surely full lunch and evening meals – namely the roast, full Indian and Chinese meals. My girls loved the iced chocolate and breakfast ice cream bar. The staff were extremely pleasant though I was not too much of a fan of staff moving quite a lot aside as you walked past…personally a bit too much for me. As you would expect; the facilities, lobby and views were spectacular. We used the Saphan Taksin BTS train station a lot which was very close to the Krungthep lobby. The lobby itself was beautiful in its own right but always eerily quiet, but we could checkout from there which made things easier. Also, right next door was a small mall (Central Bangrak) that had a delightful outdoor food market that we used on two occasions. The Spa was expensive so I booked the Let’s Relax Spa at Surawong Grande Centre Point, which was extremely relaxing and more affordable. Overall this was a wonderful stay and everyone was upset to leave. We will return.

The Shangri-La Bangkok is old school, but that is part of its charm. We were fortunate to have a room with a river view and were mesmerised watching the shuttles, party boats and barges pass by. Later in our 3N stay we jumped on the hotel’s free boat shuttle for our very own river experience. The room had a good vibe, beautiful furniture & decor. The bed was comfortable and housekeeping was thorough & timely (for that all important mid afternoon chilax). The staff are genuine, happy and welcoming. Importantly the hotel was very accessible. Nothing really to fault There are great options for food & drink nearby (within 150m)

We loved our stay here. The location is excellent – the hotel is right beside the central pier, just a few minutes’ walk through the hotel grounds, making it incredibly easy to use the tourist boats to reach Bangkok’s main sights. Bang Rak is also within walking distance and is a great area in its own right, with a fantastic food market, local cafés and plenty of inexpensive, authentic places to eat. Lebua is within walking distance too if you fancy the Hangover experience! We never actually ate dinner at the hotel because there were so many good local options nearby. The hotel also operates its own shuttle boat across the river to IconSiam, which is a brilliant place and easily worth spending a good chunk of a day exploring. Our original room had two three-quarter-size beds, which was enough for us and our two young children. We were offered an upgrade to a balcony room for roughly £80 and it was absolutely worth it. The river view was fantastic and we loved sitting and watching all the boats travelling up and down. Be warned that the occasional party boat can be quite loud, but we found that more amusing than annoying! Breakfast was superb – easily the best of the three hotels we stayed at in Thailand. The quality and variety were exceptional, with Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and European options and a huge amount being freshly prepared. We ate outside every morning overlooking the river, which was a lovely way to start the day – although you may have to defend your breakfast from a few persistent pigeons! The pool area was another highlight, particularly with children. We never struggled to find loungers, the kids loved the water jets and there are quieter pool areas if you want to get away from the main family pool. Food and drink service around the loungers was good too, making it easy to come back during the hottest part of the day and spend a couple of hours relaxing. In the evenings we occasionally stopped at the hotel bar, where there were some really enjoyable live singers and piano performances. Overall, this was a top-class stay. You get the feeling of being slightly removed from Bangkok’s main hustle and bustle while still being exceptionally well connected by boat, road and on foot. The combination of the riverfront location, outstanding breakfast and excellent pool area made this our favourite Bangkok stay and somewhere we’d happily return to.

I noticed that I had lost all the documentation pertaining to my booking as I was checking in at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. It did not seem to matter, since they had all the details of my booking, and to my great surprise I was given an upgrade in the King Kungthrup Wing. An unforgettable experience.
