Board a private speedboat bound for The Siam Hotel at Saphan Taksin central pier and leave Bangkok’s chaos behind. This urban retreat, part of the Legend collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, is a one-of-a-kind marriage of traditional Thai culture and delicious Art Deco ornamentation designed by “Architectural Digest’s Top 100” recipient Bill Bensley and overseen by Krissada Sukosol Clapp, a Thai pop singer and actor who won the country’s equivalent of a Best Actor Oscar. The resort sits on three acres of riverfront land in the royal Dusit district and draws inspiration from Paris’s Musée d’Orsay. Guests are blanketed in tranquility in oversized suites teeming with antiques.

If you want to avoid the large chain hotels but want personal 5 star comfort and service then this is the hotel for you. Situated on the banks of the river and upstream from the Grand Palace, its about a 50 minute drive from the airport depending on the traffic. We had excellent communication with the hotel prior to arrival via watsapp which is always reassuring. We didnt use the hotel organised transport from the airport but we did on our return and it cost THB700 (when paying in cash). We booked through Klook for the arrival and it only cost £16.35 for the trip from the airport. We were met by the excellent Zul who was our butler for the duration of the stay. He was our constant point of contact and was very helpful from organising our stay in the hotel to giving us advise one places we wanted to see. We also met Syahreza (Reza) Ishwara the GM and we were kindly upgraded to a Courtyard Pool Villa which if you look at the photos is quite a spectacular large room with a pool. I've attached some photos in this review. The hotel is a quirky art deco themed hotel and as you walk along the corridors you may actually think you’ve wondered into a museum. If you read thought the history of how the hotel was conceived and built and you’ll understand why there are is such an array of artefacts and curios. The room has all the standard fixtures and fittings you would expect in a 5 star hotel, with a huge bathroom and the added luxury of a courtyard with its own pool. My only quibble is the light switches which are very difficult to read and don’t seem to do what the labels state. The main restaurant is riverside and we had breakfast and dinner here as well as using room service. The breakfast is a la carte and with some nice interesting selections (Tiger Prawn Hash, Coconut Waffles) apart from the standard breakfast fare. Don’t forget to try the mango sticky rice, it’s delicious. We also used the spa, which is located on the lower floor. We had a Thai massage and a scrub and both were excellent, we were also given some extra complimentary time. All the staff and the therapists were very helpful and professional. There is a variety of different themed rooms in the hotel(Vinyl room, Cinema room) and it’s worth spending a some time walking around the hotel and exploring, there is so much to see. The hotel has its own boat which leaves the hotel 5 times a day (10.30,13.00,16.00,18.00,21.00) and does a roundtrip downstream stopping at various piers. We used it to get to Chinatown and hopped of Ratchawongs Pier. A 20 minute boat ride on a grand old fashioned boat and we passed the Grand Palace and Wat Arun. We nearly didn’t use the boat and were going to opt for Grab taxi but I’m so glad we utilised the boat shuttle service and I’d encourage all residents to try is for at least one trip. As well as our trip to Chinatown we visited the MBK mall which is a real alladins den of a mall and has lots independent shops and market stalls. We also went to the MBK branch of Lets Relax spa which we can highly recommend. We also went to World Group Limited tailors (recommended by the hotel). It’s not cheap but the service and quality of the material first class. So in summary highly recommend this if you want to steer away from the large chains and once you get used to a butler service its going to be difficult not to return for more,

Wonderful hotel full of antiques, indoor/outdoor gardens, well appointed spa and fantastic restaurants. I particularly liked the vinyl room (nice assortment of vinyl records) and high tea (with a gin, rather than tea option!). The hotel is up-river from central Bangkok but easily accessible (they have their own private ferry boat that will take you Taksin Bridge). You also get a private butler who is helpful and can make arrangements for private excursions. It's a bit pricy, but well worth the splurge.

About 45 minutes from the airport transports you to a truly beautiful art deco esq. hotel, set right on the river. Again, the staff, amazing and with special thanks to Zul who looked after us so incredibly well. He listened to what we wanted from our brief 2 day trip and set us a brilliant itinerary which was spot on from culture, temples, vibrant nightlife and restaurants (Madame Musur was the best, and incredible value for money). Regular check ins via WhatsApp to see if we were ok, helpful beyond recognition, a huge thank you. The hotel itself, was about 40% occupied due to the season but my goodness, what a stunning place. Our suite (307) was huge with views over the river and can honestly say one of the best we have stayed in. Fantastic amenities, spa, sauna, steam room, gym, an antique full sized snooker table and incredible artwork, some priceless some modern dotted throughout. We only ate breakfast here as was out in the City for lunches and dinners, but was lovely, no buffet, simply a great menu and service from lovely staff, again to my last post, always with a smile…so lovely to see this. Thank you again to Zul and the wonderful staff, if you’re coming to Bangkok, this is a MUST hotel!

We’ve just returned from what can only be described as an exceptional stay at The Siam—a place that completely redefines luxury in the most personal, soulful way. From the moment you arrive, you're transported. The hotel feels like a hidden sanctuary nestled in Bangkok, quietly elegant and serene. The interiors are stunning—rich in detail, yet calming. Every corner tells a story: carved wooden artefacts, vintage cameras, delicate porcelain, classic paintings, and antique furniture. It’s like staying in a living, breathing museum—but one that’s inviting and warm, never stuffy. Service was impeccable. Bee greeted us with genuine warmth and took care of us with such grace throughout our stay. Kris was equally attentive and ensured we were always comfortable and well looked after. Their kindness truly made us feel at home. The riverside pool was the perfect retreat—peaceful, private, and surrounded by greenery. We spent relaxed afternoons there with a glass of Prosecco and some of the best poolside food we’ve had. One of the most memorable touches was the hotel’s private boat service along the Chao Phraya. Not only was it scenic, but it gave us the freedom to explore temples, malls, and markets—then return to tranquility whenever we wanted. Breakfast was another highlight. The à la carte menu offered everything from healthy açai bowls and fresh juices to French toast and pancakes that had the kids thrilled every morning. Each dish felt curated and beautifully plated. Dinner at Chon Thai Restaurant was outstanding. Every dish was memorable—from the flavorful curries to the fresh prawns—and the team surprised my sister with a birthday dessert that made her night truly special. Thank you Takob and team for the extra care. We also booked a photoshoot during our stay, and it was an absolute dream. The hotel’s interiors and lush outdoor spaces made for an incredible backdrop and we have a beautiful set of heart-warming photos. My wife enjoyed quiet moments in the library, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere with a book in hand—one of her favorite parts of the stay. Our kids especially loved the movie room, where we ended one night watching a film together on cozy beanbags, pizza in hand. It was relaxed, personal, and full of heart—just like the entire experience at The Siam. If you're looking for an escape within Bangkok that offers peace, character, and deeply thoughtful hospitality, The Siam is in a class of its own. It’s not just a hotel—it’s a soulful retreat we’ll always remember. We can’t wait to return.

Was I in heaven? Was it a dream? I’ve stayed in so many hotels and the Siam…it’s another level. Krys.,.our butler, our friend..,made it even more special. Do yourself a favour / stay here. The beauty in every nook, the detail in every corner, the transcendence of real relaxation, of real luxury…I feel thankful to have been part of the oasis that is the Siam,
