I’ve reviewed SO/ Bangkok many times before, so this time I’ll keep it short and focus on the highlights of my recent stay. Once again, I was truly impressed. I had booked a SO Cozy Room and, without any hassle, received an upgrade to a larger room where I stayed for 9 nights with a friend. Since many of the design rooms offer limited bathroom privacy, I requested an alternative and was promptly upgraded to a SO Studio in the Earth element design. It offers great privacy and is very spacious—perfect for two people. Special thanks to Nick for upgrading us to room 2118. Another highlight was the breakfast at Red Oven. In my opinion, it remains one of the best breakfast buffets in Bangkok, with a wide and constantly changing selection. What stood out even more was the exceptional service: the new Sous Chef, Khun Ping, prepared customized dishes for us multiple times. This level of personalized service really shows how much guests are valued. I will definitely be back soon.

I chose SO/ Bangkok expecting a refined and well-managed stay, but the experience did not live up to expectations. The biggest issue was the check-in experience, which was genuinely disappointing. It felt disorganized and poorly handled, and the staff interaction came across as indifferent and unprofessional. For a hotel of this level, the front desk experience was frankly below par and set the wrong tone right from the start. Throughout the stay, the service remained inconsistent and lacked attention to detail. There was little warmth or initiative from the team, and overall it felt more transactional than guest-focused. While the property itself is stylish and visually impressive, the service does not match the image it projects. Overall, the stay was underwhelming. With better training and more attentive service, this hotel could be much better—but in its current state, it falls short of expectations.

Stayed at SO/ Bangkok expecting a design-led luxury experience, but the reality did not match the brand’s positioning. The biggest issue is the condition of the rooms. They feel tired, outdated, and in need of a full renovation. The interiors no longer reflect the contemporary, high-concept style the SO brand is known for, and overall maintenance appears inconsistent. Breakfast was underwhelming. The spread lacked both variety and quality, feeling closer to a standard business hotel than a five-star property. The hotel’s layout adds unnecessary inconvenience. Reaching your room requires changing elevators—first to the lobby, then again to guest floors—which interrupts the sense of ease expected at this level. Service was the only consistently positive element. The front office team was efficient, polite, and helpful throughout. In its current state, the hotel does not justify its positioning or pricing. Unless there is a significant refurbishment, there are stronger alternatives in Bangkok that deliver a more cohesive luxury experience.

I visited Bangkok to celebrate Songkran and chose this hotel for its legendary pool party. The atmosphere, music, lighting, and social energy were simply unmatched — that is the reason for my 5-star rating. However, the food offerings from the executive lounge and restaurant felt slightly below previous visits. For example, the Angus steak and coconut were no longer available at the executive lounge. Furthermore, I could no longer find coconut, smoked salmon, or an extensive dessert selection at Red Oven Breakfast. Lastly, the bubble bath service was no longer available for studio and suite guests. I would suggest increasing room rates to maintain SO/Bangkok’s standards, rather than cutting costs. I stayed in the Water Elements Suite and noticed some housekeeping issues upon arrival. I reported these to the lounge staff, and I appreciated their prompt assistance — the housekeeping performance was restored to SO/Bangkok’s original standard, with perfect turndown, cleanliness, and attention to detail.

SO/ Bangkok is a sleek and stylish hotel with an excellent location. It is just across Lumphini Park and One Bangkok, and only a short walk to Central Embassy. There’s also a 7-Eleven nearby, which is very convenient. Another plus is the nearby Fitness First Q House Lumpini for those who want to work out during their stay. The room was very spacious and offered a beautiful view of Lumphini Park. The bathroom was well designed, featuring a bathtub, a separate shower, and a separate water closet. One of the highlights of the hotel is its infinity pool, which overlooks Lumphini Park with the Bangkok skyline as a stunning backdrop. Breakfast at Red Oven was decent but somewhat average, with a limited selection compared to other hotels in the same category. During breakfast, I was initially assigned to an empty seat but was later asked to transfer because the table was reserved for the companions of the guest seated next to me. It would have been better if I had been assigned another seat right away to avoid the inconvenience. Overall, it was still a great stay at a great hotel.
