Grand Hotel Central Barcelona

First impression is not good. Reception required €300 pre approved deposit on my card before we could check in, even though the room was fully paid for the three day stay. I will ensure we do not spend anything in this hotel to ensure the return of the deposit. Having just arrived in Barcelona from a cruise, we found the room claustrophobic and small in comparison to our cabin about the ship - that gives you an idea of the space. It is not obvious how to close the window blind that is sandwiched between glass, we should not have to ask for help with what should be a simple task. The view from the window is not worth looking at anyhow. The room is cold, necessitating having to wear a coat to keep warm. I am not keen on the glass that separates the bathroom, who wants to see their wife on the throne these days? Maybe it is the “in-thing” or some new trend, however I prefer privacy over gimmicks. Oh by the way, where is the light switch to the bathroom - of course it is the other side of the room hidden behind a mirror - who would have guessed. Let’s hope breakfast tomorrow will be worth it, although other reviews say otherwise - so I won’t hold my breath. So far, I am unable to recommend this hotel.

Excellent hotel in the ideal location-we went (almost) everywhere on foot. Staff was super polite and eager to assist us with everything we needed. Roof garden gorgeous, we had light lunch one day and the food was very nice. Family room was perfect for a family with 2 kids aged 10 and 8. Spacious, super clean and modern. And it is designed in a way to give the parents the privacy they need which is very important…

Extraordinary hotel! Everything was top notch. I can’t say enough about all of the hotel staff. They were professional, courteous and always helpful. Very clean, modern rooms with all the amenities. The breakfast was outstanding as well as the restaurant staff. I would love to go back!

This lovely hotel really couldn't be located any better for getting out and about in the city. Our room was spacious, with an incredibly comfortable bed (much appreciated after long long days of sight-seeing) and a wonderfully refreshing shower. The staff was, without exception, friendly and helpful. It was too chilly during our stay to make use of the rooftop pool, but it was a nice place to sit in the afternoon to make the most of the last of the sun. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide range of high quality choices. Housekeeping were very efficient and our room was always kept very clean and comfortable bed. I would dearly love to be giving five stars, but our room was at the front of the hotel, over-looking the main road, and there was absolutely no noise-attenuation offered by the windows, and despite being absolutely shattered from all the walking we were doing every day, neither of us were able to sleep right through the night for the whole week we were there. Apart from this, we loved our stay!

Very nice hotel with good location, excellent staff, clean rooms, awesome rooftop pool/cocktails, and terrific breakfast. We had an upgraded corner room, which was VERY small. Like, there was no place to open suitcases, and one person had to move for another to walk through. Almost zero space to unpack our things. We had to ask them to remove a chair so we could open one suitcase, at least.
