Broken Utilities Rude Ineffective Management

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

The employees are friendly and helpful but with any problems management can’t help. Our room had defective lighting and electrical outlets. The high tech lights went on and off randomly during the middle of the night, waking us up. The staff came up the next day and said it was fixed. It wasn’t. It did the same thing that evening when we returned. The night manger tried to blame us for the problem saying we should have called at 3:00 am when the lights woke us up. They have no maintenance staff at that hour. They had to move us to another room at 22 10 pm. That room had defective lighting in the bathroom but it was too late to do anything about it. We had to use the lights on our cell phones that night to find our way. Next day they wasted hours of our time trying to fix those lights, unsuccessfully. Finally they rigged up something that gave us a night light. The hotel manager tried to compensate us for the experience with a $10 bottle of wine. We spent about $1000 at that hotel. Nice neighborhood very small rooms.

Modern, friendly stay with a luxury feel in the heart of the city. A**

The hotel, facilities, staff and service was great here! A very clean and modern hotel with a very nice chill out area on top with a bar and pool for those staying to use. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, offering tips and giving us direction when needed. Close enough to walk to the sights, bars/pubs and the coast. I would stay here again! A**

Nice experience

My second visit to Barcelona in three months and both times I used the services of a hotel from the same group (the first time at the Derby Hotel, in January). The entire staff was great! Especially the team from the dining room and kitchen. Great respect for their behavior and energy. Without any complaints!

Comfort and Value Amidst Minor Hiccups

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

During our stay, we encountered several issues that detracted from our comfort and convenience. Each morning, noise from the housekeeping staff in the halls and adjacent rooms disrupted our sleep, continuing until noon. Additionally, a jammed closet door led to a broken light switch mechanism, leaving us with no choice but to keep the closet light permanently on or off. The light under the bathroom sink also flickered, and the arrangement of light switches was initially confusing. By the end of our stay, the limited breakfast buffet offerings had become monotonous. While our stay presented several challenges, it's important to note the positives that enhanced our experience. The service we received was excellent, with attentive and responsive staff. The cleanliness of the facilities was very good, maintaining a welcoming environment throughout our visit. The value for the price paid was commendable, making it a cost-effective choice for travelers. Additionally, the hotel's location was excellent, conveniently situated for easy access to local attractions and amenities. The rooms, in general, were very good—spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. Despite the issues with noise disruptions, lighting, and limited breakfast offerings, these aspects ensured a worthwhile stay.

Good stay overall

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We had booked a basic room but was a pleasant room none the less. Great location which was a bonus as well. Only a couple of little things were off, these are that our safe did not work and we told reception the first night and was assured it would be fixed, this did not happen and on the second day we went back to reception and once again they said it would be fixed. Eventually the safe was replaced but I would have preferred it to have been done first time. I found the beds rather hard for my preference so did wake up with an aching back on both days. The White Company toiletries were lovely. I was surprised that bottled water had to be paid for as most hotels of this standard at least include some complimentary water. There are several local supermarkets where you can buy water that are open late. Overall a pleasant stay though.
