Fabulous hotel in every way! Special nod to Thomas...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Neri for one night, at the end of a Mediterranean Cruise. We only wished that we could have stayed longer in Barcelona, and at this lovely hotel. The staff was wonderful, took care of all our needs, truly 5-star service, beautiful room, great bed. We had our last evening dinner at the restaurant in the hotel, and oh my! What a feast it was! The menu offered delectable bites, and the wine was superb. The atmosphere in the entire hotel and restaurant exuded luxury and comfort. Special hats off to Thomas, the doorman! On our departure morning, our pre-scheduled taxi failed to show, and we needed to get to the airport, so Thomas walked us a couple of blocks away, and made sure we got into another taxi, so we had an on-time arrival at the airport. Of course, the hotel is right in the center of all the wonderful things you want to see in Barcelona, from the Sagrada Familia to Gaudi's buildings, and of course, all the beautiful walking pathways amongst the old buildings and restaurants, etc. I highly recommend this wonderful hotel!

Average Hotel in a Great Location, but Not 5 Star

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We booked 5 nights at Hotel Neri based on their recognition as a Relais & Chateaux property and their 5-star rating. Unfortunately, Hotel Neri fell short of expectations. Starting with the good, the location is top-notch. It is centrally located in the Gothic Quarter around the corner from Plaça de Sant Jaume. There isn’t very much in Barcelona that is too far away from the hotel. It seems Hotel Neri is the nicest property actually located in the Gothic Quarter. We did not eat lunch or dinner at the hotel, but the breakfast was one of the bright spots of our stay. Unfortunately, the bad outweighs the good. To start, cabs are often forbidden from driving to the front of the hotel. Upon arrival, we were dropped off at the Hotel Rialto and had to get assistance from one of their porters with our bags just to get to the entrance to Hotel Neri. It seems cabs are permitted to drive to the front of Hotel Neri at certain times of day, but the majority of the time are prohibited. If you use an app for transportation, many cab drivers are unaware that they can drive to the entrance of the hotel even at times when it is permitted (actual ride-sharing drivers are always prohibited). It would have been nice to be informed of this prior to arriving in Barcelona. The staff at Hotel Neri were hit and miss. Some were accommodating while others came off as disinterested to the point where we were made to feel like we were inconveniencing them when simple/reasonable requests were made. Having the door locked for security purposes gives peace of mind, but the person at the front desk was not always present meaning we had to stand around and wait for someone to let us in. A better system would be to give us key cards that can be used to unlock the front door in the event the front desk is empty. We had a junior suite, which was fairly spacious for Europe, but the bathroom amenities were laughable. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash were extremely watery and they all came in small containers with cork tops that had to constantly be refilled by housekeeping. Between two people, we could not go more than a day and a half without needing a refill because the products were so deficient. It got to the point where we actually went to a local store and bought our own travel-sized products so we didn’t have to keep using the poor products offered by the hotel. In addition, the shower in our room made a mess on the floor. We had to lay down multiple towels to soak up the water that would spray out of the shower/tub. There wasn’t a single day when we did not have sopping wet towels on the floor of our bathroom. The hotel does not have a fitness center and the pool on the top floor looked much more inviting and larger in pictures than in person. The same can be said for the entirety of the lobby. Overall, Hotel Neri does a great job of presenting itself as a 5-star hotel online, but it feels more like a 3.5-4 star hotel when actually staying on property. No doubt, the location is 5-star, but the negatives I have mentioned above greatly detract from the overall stay. We will be returning to Barcelona in a couple months and would not consider staying at Hotel Neri again.

Lovely, welcoming hotel in excellent location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

This would be hard to beat. The staff was welcoming, helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was quiet. This is a great area to explore by walking, and the hotel location was perfect for that. We had a terrace room and it was very nice and comfortable. As we left early for our train, they had prepared a breakfast for us to take with us. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Wonderful hotel hidden in the old Jewish area of Barcelona. Great area and position. Walk to everything. Many bars and restaurants nearby. Hotel restaurant is excellent. Tomas the Bellman was a highlight. What a great character.
