Where do I begin? Well firstly, definitely not 5 star, by any stretch of the imagination! ROOM: From the inappropriate nature of the conversation at check-in, (long conversations about ‘fitting in’ to guests having flown in from abroad was truly odd) to opening the room door directly onto the bathroom (there is literally no door to the bathroom, or on the wardrobe right next to it!) The toilet at the end of the shower had a see through glass door, with a less than a third of the single pane of sliding glass being etched, so absolutely no privacy - sound or otherwise. Which makes for an interesting interaction for any room service, or any maintenance men visiting (which we needed as the shower didn’t work). FOOD: not a place to eat in the evening! First night at the empty ground floor restaurant - was a surly waiter why so surly when he was far from busy was a mystery. The 24th floor restaurant provides a good selection at breakfast, but that’s as far as it goes. We booked for our final evening to catch the sunset and were the only ones there, again! Nevermind, we thought, at least we will be served in a timely manner! Err wrong. The cocktails selected from their menu were wrong (for future reference there is no Campari or orange in a white negroni - which becomes, well, pink). We each ordered a main meal with a gap of nearly half an hour between the first and second plate being delivered. They clearly realised the experience was sub-optimal, and agreed to comp the meal. We headed out by taxi and had a lovely meal at El Salon. The cherry on the cake was that the promise of the comped meal was reneged upon at check out by the less than delightful Abdul, who claimed he was the duty manager, but without either the demeanour or commitment to customer service one would expect from a 3 star hotel let alone 5! We had intended to leave our luggage there as we took a last look at the city centre, but as our trust had been broken, did not feel safe to entrust them with our belonging. So yes, we will remember Barcelona for many reasons, the art (the Mirò Foundation well worth the detour) the architecture (Park Güell was a last minute but worthwhile addition to our itinerary), the amazing food and welcoming service at Bestia and El Salon, however this hotel, well that’s another story!

I spent absolutely ages trying to decide where to stay in Barcelona and am so pleased I picked The Level! We were travelling as a family of 6 with grandparents, parents and 2 young children and there were not many hotel options with family rooms, so we chose here as we could have a suite and a double room. We were driving and booked the car park as an extra which was very conveniently located right under the hotel, with lift access to the main reception. The suite on floor 28 was great - lots of space and amazing views. We could just see the spires of La Sagrada Familia and saw some beautiful sunsets. The bathroom in the suite was significantly larger than the double room with a bath and a double shower, but the double room was also a decent size. In the suite there were doors so you could close the bedroom off from the living area with the sofa bed, but they didn’t fully close. I found the bed a little soft for my liking, but otherwise have no complaints at all about the room. We slept well! There were even some small gifts left for the kids which was a lovely touch. Lifts were quick and we never waited long. We used the pool briefly a few evenings - it was in the shade by 6pm so a little chilly, but very quiet! Area wise it was perfect for us. It was nice being able to walk to the beach, and the Poblenou Rambla was a fantastic street with loads of restaurants and shops. I definitely preferred the vibe here to the centre of the city. Transport in to the centre was good - we used the metro to get to Passeig de Gracia for the Gaudi houses and other central sights, and the tram to go to Sagrada Familia. I definitely feel it was worth the extra to upgrade to The Level. As a guest in The Level there is an exclusive reception on floor 25 - here there is also a lounge with drinks and snacks available from 9am-10pm. We ended up using this area for breakfast every day as we were quite happy with a pastry, fruit and drinks at 9am. If you want a full buffet or an earlier breakfast that is available at an extra charge, but we didn’t feel the need. We also ended up using the lounge area a few days for lunch - this was really good with small salads available and a gorgeous gazpacho amongst other things. The food is constantly topped up, and there’s wine and beer available here. What was really amazing was the “appetiser time” on floor 24 from 5.30-7pm. Lots of tasty nibbles and all sorts available to drink. The views from here were amazing - all the way up and down the coast. I’d definitely recommend here and would stay again. The experience would also make me look at Melia hotels in other locations in the future. Thanks!

We stayed for a few nights as a family with older teens and had a level room with access to the lounge. This was great for cold drinks (incl. wine and beer) all day and a good range of snacks/tapas/cakes etc - slightly annoying being on the 25th floor when you're spending the day by the pool on the 6th as we did end up spending more than we needed to at the pool bar. The breakfast snacks in the lounge were really limited so I would recommend paying for the main hotel breakfast or going out. The staff in the lounge were lovely and honoured us with a slightly late check out which was great... the lounge was also never really crowded (like some I have been to in the past). The weather was really warm so we didn't do much sightseeing in the city but it was a short taxi ride into the centre if needed (15 mins). Uber doesn't work well but we used the Freenow app which was great. The beach is a lovely 15 min walk down Ramblas PobleNou pedestrianised street with shops/bars and restaurants. the beach was buzzing with people playing volleyball etc and a couple of good restaurants. We spent a fair amount of time by the pool which was relaxing, and cold drinking water was available form the machine in the gym close by. Cocktails were lovely as were the food options at the pool bar. The only off putting thing was couples all over each other in the pool, but that's not an issue with the hotel! All in all a great stay in a good location and I would stay there again.

I had an incredible stay at The Level at Sky Melia Barcelona! The hotel itself is beautifully maintained, but what truly makes this place special is the staff. A huge thank you to Antonino and Federico, who went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable and memorable. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and personal touch like remembering my name made all the difference. Every interaction was warm and welcoming. If you’re looking for a hotel with outstanding service, this is the place to be!
