This hotel has seen better days. The unusual location was something one could overlook in the past, but now that the quality of everything has devolved, there are definitely better options in Barcelona. The rooms were cold and the heat didn't really work. There was a lack of hot water on 2 of the 4 days. The shades open and close in an unusual way. There was extensive construction in the hotel, which made it quire noisy. I guess they are working on renovating the hotel, so I can't quite close the door on the W Barcelona forever, but what's going on there now --- it's not good. The staff try their best, and I offer no complaints on the actual workers - they are the best part of the hotel. But I guess the infrastructure and management are letting them down.

Visited Barcelona with a friend for the Christmas Markets. We had won a trip to another hotel but booked the W instead, I had previously stayed there and had a great experience and unforgettable sunsets. On arrival it was evident a large portion of the hotel was closed with only the lower floors available (this was highlighted before we arrived). I explained I was looking for a room where we could watch the sunset, this wasn’t possible. It was a beautiful view all the same facing out onto the beach. The room was okie but for what we paid i was expecting better, the previous room I had was far superior. There was no bath and the room was an average size. The rooms were spotless and modern and the reception team were very friendly. The staff in the nightclub mainly the host weren’t particularly friendly, I assume she was having a stressful evening. The atmosphere in the club was strange, we didn’t feel safe. It’s impossible to tell and in no way reflects in our review but I am suspicious that our drinks potentially got spiked. My friend fell asleep in the club to the extent she was difficult to rouse before midnight, I also felt far more drunk than what made sense for what I had drank. There were guys sat next to us who I repeatedly asked to leave us alone. We spent the entire next day vomiting and unable to leave our hotel room. Theres every chance we just had to much sangria however we have 40 years drinking experience between us and have never felt so ill. I called concierge and asked if there were IV vitamin services in the city. I was told no, I later found out this was incorrect. We didn’t use any of the other facilities in the hotel as we are to unwell. We had a great time despite our experiences in the club, there was loads to do and see around the city and the hotel is beautiful.

😱 W HOTEL BARCELONA DISAPPOINTMENT 😱 I am writing to share the extremely disappointing experience my husband and I had during our first stay at the W Hotel Barcelona. I have been visiting Barcelona for 23 years, and until now the Marriott name has always been a guarantee of quality for us. For seven years, I had been dreaming of celebrating my 50th birthday at this hotel in a beautiful room with a sea view. On the evening of 16 December, my father surprised me by booking a room at this hotel for the night of 17 December. We arrived on 17 December and, after an unusually long check-in wait, were given room 320. Our initial excitement turned to shock when we entered the room. The conditions included the following: • The door appeared to have been propped open; the lock was hanging in the door frame and had been reattached improperly. • The bottom of the bed frame was damaged and torn. • The LED strip above the bed was missing/damaged. • A decorative pillow (the “Gaudí” pillow) in the centre of the bed was dirty, with a large amount of dried chewing gum on it. • The TV cable box was hanging loose and appeared damaged. • The telephone handset was dirty and had dried chewing gum on it. • The extractor fan/dehumidifier in the shower did not work, so the glass remained steamed up long after showering. • The hotel’s official birthday greeting card addressed us as “Mr. and Mrs. TOLLAR,” although at check-in, you asked for our passports and we clearly explained that, while the room was booked and paid for by my father Endre Tollar, I was staying with my husband. The correct names should have been “Mr. and Mrs. Majer.” I immediately reported these problems at reception. The alternative room offered on the 1st floor had a far inferior view compared with room 320, so we did not accept the change. We then visited the wellness area to try to recover from our disappointment, but found more problems there: • The jacuzzi did not work. • Some showers were disconnected and not functioning. When we returned to our room from the wellness area, a cleaning attendant was still cleaning inside despite our arrival and did not leave when we entered; she continued vacuuming until we firmly asked her to stop. When redeeming a cocktail voucher at the bar, we found the menu to be dirty, torn, and poorly repaired. At breakfast the next morning, our table was damaged and broken. After that single night, we decided not to remain at the hotel for the remaining five nights of our trip. We are at a loss as to how this standard of service could occur at a Marriott property that promotes itself as high-quality and guest-focused. Specifically: • How was room 320 assigned to us at check-in in that condition? • How were so many basic maintenance and cleanliness issues missed, especially for guests celebrating a significant occasion? • How could this happen on what was supposed to be a special birthday celebration? Given the severity of these failures and the effect on my birthday, I consider the service we received unacceptable. On December 26th we sent a complaint with all the pictures to several email addresses of the hotel. Unfortunately we didn't get any explanation/proposal from the hotel management for how they intend to remedy this situation.

what a terrible unpleasant experience i’ve got! the pretty first day when i tried to take a shower it’s been no water at least for 3 hours. my day was ruined, the meeting i came for to Barcelona was cancelled. Besides of regards when i came down to reception i received the lie that they sending someone to me. 3 hours after the man with paper announce of problems with water arrived. This service not even deserve any single start. The hotel is so dirty itself - i got a white stains on coach and as you can see on the picture attached , someone just throws yesterday morning the empty bottles just right at my door, in the middle of the night when i made this picture it’s still been there . They don’t have a fridge in the room! Oh my god, at least i stayed at 327 and here is no fridge which is necessary for my cosmetic and unfortunately i’m still staying for few next nights !
