Reviews for The Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois

Beautiful old world hotel, some issues with the rooms.

Overall I really liked this hotel. It's perfectly located on the river in a central area of Basel, easy to walk or take the tram everywhere. Loved the views over the river from the public spaces and the restaurant. Overall the staff who work here are lovely, professional, and caring. Public spaces are beautiful. Food in the breakfast room is excellent - huge and high quality buffet in addition to a great selection of a la carte items. We had drinks and food on the terrace one afternoon - pricey, but a great selection and amazing views over the river. I really like this hotel. The only caution I'd have is the rooms can vary widely. Yes, it's an old hotel, and they overall do a good job keeping up modern standards. But our party had three rooms of varying quality. My brother and his partner had a great room on the second floor overlooking the river. Beautiful, wiht high ceilings and air of spaciousness. My partner and I were on the fourth floor in a room overlooking the city. While the room was essentially the same size as my brother's, it was very different. It was room 410. Essentially, it felt like we were in an attic room, as the ceiling/roof of the building was slanted in the room, reducing the feeling of spaciousness. Indeed, I hit my head on the low slooping ceiling a number of times. Further, there were wood beams throughout the room that also prevented full spaciousness. My parents were in the adjacent room, 412, and it had similar issues. That said, the finishings were all nice and beautiful, just be aware that this can happen. Also, this is a broader note. There were no coffee makers in the rooms - like a nespresso machine or similar. This should be a standard amenity in a hotel of this caliber/ price point. Otherwise, I really liked this hotel. It had history, luxury, and a great overall service ethic.

I can't say enough about this beautiful hotel. Gorgeous from the common rooms to the restaurants and clean, quiet guest rooms. Loved our room with the balcony. The entire staff was amazingly helpful, friendly and professional. Would recommend to anyone.

Oh My Goodness! Beyond Fantastic!

The Grand Hotel les Trois Roi is not just a place of lodging, it is an immersive experience. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted and treated with utmost respect, dignity, and professionalism (despite our haggard appearance from travel). The reception team was kind and very helpful, and concierge was wonderful. They assisted us in securing reservations for the (excellent) restaurant next door, and helped us map out a fantastic walking tour of the area, highlighting sites that fit our interests. The hotel itself is stunning; it is a living piece of history. Our room, with a balcony overlooking the Rhine was outstanding in every way. We so greatly appreciated the plates of treats that welcomed us, and enjoyed the complimentary fully stocked minibar. The heated towel rack and heated bathroom floor were decadent additions to an already amazing space. The bed was comfortable and the room very quiet. Breakfast was a delight - so many delicious and visually appealing choices! Definitely try the sweets table - chocolate coated banana bread is scrumptious, and the cookies - yes, cookies for breakfast - were such a treat. Our only regret was that our stay was just one night. Without question, we need to return to Basel and enjoy the Grand Hotel les Trois Rois for a much longer time. Thanks to the entire staff for an outstanding experience!

Simply perfect in every way

This is, by far, one of the most fabulous hotels you could hope for. My daughter and I were wrapping up a whirlwind trip through Italy, France and Switzerland and this was a splurge to cap off our grand celebration and adventure. I could not be happier that we chose this hotel. The location was superb. Access could not have been easier from Zurich airport through the Basel train station, with a tram stop just across the street. The bar was warm and inviting, the brasserie was gorgeous, breakfast was exceptional. The staff was warm and friendly and so very helpful. Our room was comfortable, quiet and luxurious. All the sights, shopping and dining destinations were a quick walk or tram ride away. The view was a dream. Just book it. You'll be so glad you did! I can't wait to return. Just fabulous.
