With a history stretching back over three centuries, the hotel carries on one of the richest traditions in Europe, offering its guests exceptional hospitality and exquisite amenities in a lively setting, which combines natural elegance with luxury. Discover Basel - the city of arts and culture, the tri-border area, and the charm of the surrounding region. Allow yourself to be pampered – to make your stay in this small cosmopolitan city unforgettable.

This is, by far, one of the most fabulous hotels you could hope for. My daughter and I were wrapping up a whirlwind trip through Italy, France and Switzerland and this was a splurge to cap off our grand celebration and adventure. I could not be happier that we chose this hotel. The location was superb. Access could not have been easier from Zurich airport through the Basel train station, with a tram stop just across the street. The bar was warm and inviting, the brasserie was gorgeous, breakfast was exceptional. The staff was warm and friendly and so very helpful. Our room was comfortable, quiet and luxurious. All the sights, shopping and dining destinations were a quick walk or tram ride away. The view was a dream. Just book it. You'll be so glad you did! I can't wait to return. Just fabulous.

As fine a hotel as any we have stayed in 60 years of traveling the word!

I was told over and over again that this hotel was the best property in Basel; so I booked a junior suite with a center view of the Rhine. Honestly, the hotel has work to do on their infrastructure to be a 5-star. With the issues outlined below, the best I can do is a 4.5 star. Cons: no air conditioning! During our 3-night stay, the daytime temperatures were in the 60s, nighttime in the 40s. Our room was very warm. We had to leave the balcony doors open at night. The Concierge provided us with a fan, but blowing hot air around a hot room doesn’t work. The solution was opening the doors, but, what would you do in the summer months??? No bidet. Shower/bathtub combination is awkward (clearly retrofitted), with a folding glass shower door that is difficult to open and shut. Pros: great location on the Rhine. Close to Old Town and all the high-end luxury shopping. The Concierge team works very hard to accommodate your every need. Mary, was a total standout. Helping the first day with laundry service, directions to a nail salon, and recommendations for contemporary art galleries. Housekeeping is terrific. Laundry service is done very well and timely. if this hotel Updates to Air Conditioning controlled in each room, and bathroom upgrades, it would truly be a five star.

This is a gorgeous "Grande Dame" hotel with incredible attention to detail. The rooms are stunning as are all the appointments. From the fresh flowers in the lobby to the warm and inviting bar, you truly feel surrounded by luxury. The breakfast (included) was the finest we have ever had in Europe with the dining room setting and art work simply perfect. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Basel.
