Carlotta is indeed a great value for this business, but being honest, everybody and everything is outstanding in this Hotel. It has been a pleasure from every angle our weekend break in the The Bath Priory. The hotel is very special and the whole experience has been memorable for us. Service, staff, rooms, lounges, decoration, art, pools, facilities, gardens, everything is simply marvellous. My 12 years old doesn’t stop asking when we will be back !!!. I would like also to share a minor improvement that it is just probably a personal appreciation. Although the category of this Hotel is what it is and therefore everything associated is according to this category, I consider slightly oversized a two £39 wine glasses (Chardonnay & Syrah) without previous discrete consultation through the wine list. Piotr, the restaurant manager, was a fantastic and nice host along our dinner experience, so just suggesting some attention on these generous recommendations.

Gorgeous room with such a comfy four-poster bed. The hotel generally was spotless. Lots of character - the fine dining room was more muted than the Pantry but that worked well for an evening meal. Staff worked hard to meet the needs of all guests and were very understanding if something needed to be changed. Food was exceptional - some people might find the service slow but it added to our relaxation. Indoor and outdoor pools were both lovely. One of the best massages I’ve ever had in a beautiful spa. The edge of city location (still only 20 minutes walk to the centre - scenic route) is the perfect balance between a city break and a tranquil retreat.

Our experience was not that of a 5-star hotel, and did not match the standard suggested by the high prices. We stayed in a Deluxe Room, Geranium. While the room was clean, it is in definite need of an update and refresh. The sofa was worn and a little threadbare, there were hooks on the wall without pictures on them, the shower tray was broken off and missing, there was no shower gel and only one soap for two people, and there was no thermostat so the room was very cold in the evening. The website room description said views of the courtyard - we had a view of the courtyard and gardens out of a small back window next to a fire escape, where there was no furniture to sit and enjoy them. Our main view was of the car park. The description also said we would have a separate living space but the sofa was just at the end of the bed. We were expecting Georgian elegance, but were met with tired and dated. Paying well over £300 for the night, we were very disappointed and feel this was unacceptable. We had booked dinner at The Pantry, but chose to cancel and eat out in town after our friends’ experience the night before, where menu items were unavailable, service was slow and the food was so-so. We were so relieved we did, as when we saw where other guests were eating their dinner, it was cramped and lacked atmosphere. We were also told that the lemon sole was not available for a second night in a row, with no alternative. When you only have two mains on a menu, to not have one of them, especially at a ‘5-star’ hotel, is unacceptable. We decided to have a coffee on the terrace on arrival. There were no staff around initially, and when one finally appeared at the bar, she told us to take a seat outside, where there were only two other small tables taken by other guests. So the terrace was not busy and staff were aware we were there. We then waited so long to be served, my friend had to get up to go find a staff member. Oat milk was unavailable, and it took about 10 minutes for the coffees to arrive. When we went for a glass of wine before going out for dinner, the experience was repeated. On the matter of wine, the prices are exorbitant. We are used to and happy to pay higher prices at 5 star hotels, but the service and experience must be reflected in those prices. Our breakfast experience was equally poor. After waiting 15 minutes to be served, we had to get up to find a staff member. The smoked salmon option wasn’t available, lemon & ginger tea wasn’t available (despite being available in the spa), and when I ordered tea with oat milk, I was given normal milk. So I, again, had to get up to find a staff member to have it replaced. We had been warned by our friends and some other guests about cold eggs, so specifically asked that they be served hot. To need to specify this at a 5-star hotel is ridiculous. When they arrived, the poached eggs were ok but over cooked. The one redeeming part of our stay was our spa treatments, both of which were of the standard expected given the price and hotel rating. Having looked at reviews on Google and TripAdvisor, there is a bit of a mix of experiences. Some rooms seem to be in much better condition than others (our friends’ room was nice), and service seems better later in the week. However, we didn’t stay in a lead-in room, we stayed in a Deluxe. Besides, every room in the property should be of a 5-star standard. Overall, our stay was hugely disappointing and we did raise our concerns on check out. We were given the emails of the General Manager and Hotel Manager and tried to raise concerns with them rather than write a review. We received no response to our email outlining our concerns. In view of our experience and having seen the hotel’s response to similar complaints on Google and TripAdvisor, the current impression is very much that management does not care!

Lovely old hotel which has been enlarged over the years. Although a bit tired in some parts, more than made up for by the friendly, helpful staff from check in, The Pantry restaurant where we ate to breakfast service. Room was a generous size with a huge bathroom. Only complaint was a rather lacklustre shower in terms of pressure. Large and comfy bed. Food in the Pantry was good quality and although smaller portions, was ample for our needs. The gardens are beautiful, a real feature and the outdoor pool inviting although on our visit weather still a bit chilly to sit out. Lovely indoor pool/spa. For those who enjoy a walk, about 15mins through Royal Victoria park to the Royal Crescent and the City beyond.

Lovely place, stayed one night only as a stopover on a longer trip. Would return and spend more time there to dine and make use of the spa facilities.Really nice.
