About the Hotel

Chateau la Cheneviere is closing its doors this winter, in order to prepare for its reopening in March 2025. A big thank you to all our customers and partners for this wonderful 2024 season.

Set close to Omaha Beach and the historic town of Bayeux, Port en Bessin conceals a treasure that lies at the end of a long drive " Chateau La Cheneviere ". Impeccable lawns, ancient trees and a charmingly old-fashioned rose garden... arriving on the estate is like strolling onto the lands of an English Lord who fell under the spell of Calvados region. The manor appears at last, a dignified Norman edifice from the 18th century, it combines the charms of an old house with the conveniences of a cosy English Manor. Discover the two restaurants, Le Botaniste, the gastronomic restaurant open every evening from Tuesday to Saturday, where Chef Didier Robin's cuisine invites you to a fine dining experience and Le Petit Jardin our bistronomic restaurant awaiting for you in la Cheneviere's old conservatory. The menu focuses on fresh, high-quality products, all locally sourced from the Château's vegetable garden. Le Petit Jardin is open from Thursday to Monday for lunch and dinner.

Reviews for Chateau La Cheneviere

Gem in Normandy

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My Wife & I were on a whirlwind tour of Mont-Saint-Michel & Normandy in 2 days, so we decided to leave our Paris hotel room for a night and stay in Normandy. WOW...what a wonderful yet accidental decision. La Chenevière is a restored mansion, immaculately re-done and maintained, and attended by the most astute, attentive, and amazing staff you will meet anywhere. We eat light at nights, so missed the 5-Star restaurant for the comfort of the bar, attended dutifully by Timothy. Tuna salad & chicken salad, both light and meticulously prepared. The room was wonderful, comfy, and thoughtful. Omaha Beach 10-minutes away. We even had our Guide drop his car off so we could come back for a beverage & potty break after check-out, which was welcomed by the wonderful staff. If you are going to the Beaches of Normandy...come here. Period.

DO NOT TRUST THIS HOTEL!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Read all the fine print, and do not expect them to honor anything else, no matter how obvious, not even to respond constructively. If they respond to this note it will be to claim that our purchase was non-refundable, but they will know that they are not telling anything close to the whole truth. There are many other fine places to stay in the area.

My wife and I just enjoyed our 10th stay at the Chateau La Cheneviere. Our first stay was back in 2015 and we immediately fell in love with the Chateau, its amazing grounds, and incredible staff. We have now made it a yearly springtime stay. The Chateau itself sits near the D’Day beaches and a 10 minute walk from the beautiful fishing village of Port en Bessin. It’s also a 10 minute drive from the historical town of Bayeau. As to the Chateau, it has a main house with adjacent building all with beautifully decorated rooms, each uniquely and stylishly decorated. The grounds are quite spectacular and manicured. The sitting areas are inviting and quite cozy. They have 2 restaurants that are absolutely a must if staying at the resort. Finally, a special thanks to Aurelie, Justin and Beatriz for always making our stay’s so memorable.

History and relaxing

This place is amazing and rich with history. We had top notch service from bookings til we left the property. They helped us with our tours and the tour company they work with is outstanding. The grounds are unbeilevable with the trees and lush gardens. The rooms are a very nice size with updated bathrooms. The staff is very lovely and very helpful and welcoming. You will not regret this warm place tucked away from the world!!!

Not up to 5-star standards!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

Room (not in main house) was dark, staff generally not friendly and garden restaurant food was marginal. Location was close (by car) to D-Day memorial sites. Would rather have stayed in Bayeux where we could walk to other restaurants, shops, etc. The Chateau was not up to 5-star standards per our experience.
