Great for a looong layover
I stayed here on a work trip in 2019 and returned on a 23 hour layover in Beijing because of it's location and canal eateries. Nice hotel, good location for those that have already visited Beijing before. Go to the canal behind the hotel and have a leisurely at one of the many restaurants in the area,

Very comfortable room and good service
We were assigned a family suite that was very big and comfortable and had a good view of the river. Problems were resolved promptly and staff were very helpful and friendly. Cleaning staff accomodated our requests and Sylvia showed us around the hotel and told us about the nearby malls and shopping. If there is anything to improve, we felt the breakfast could be better (but maybe it didnt suit our tastes), there was only a one selection of dimsum (the rest were sweet potatoes, corn, potatoes etc), and service was sometimes rather slow or inattentive. It is also mostly self-service: no one asked if we wanted any drink. The hotel is great, although breakfast can be skipped. Perhaps get some good, tasty bread from the deli instead.

Exquisite
This hotel was just fantastic. The staff were incredibly helpful, and had a very good level of English. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was exquisite. I also enjoyed dinner in the Chinese Dragon restaurant and lunch in Via Roma, and treated myself to a very good pastry from Kempinski Deli. My only issues were that the shower in my bathroom flooded into the main bathroom floor and it was difficult to prevent this - I would have preferred if the shower was within a bathtub. Also the swimming pool was cold and swim hats cost one hundred renminbi - be warned! Overall, a fantastic experience and I would recommend. Location was good too for getting to central area.

Second visit
We stayed here for the second successive year, attending another conference. Beijing often feels very cold with endless concrete structures but the Kempinski is situated on the riverside, creating the perfeft setting for evening meals, drinks and walks by the river. The staff are always pleasant and there are loads of food options in and outside the hotel. I hope we return once again.
