Hilton Berlin

Unfortunately,I would say you get less for your money at the Hilton. The reason I am writing this review was the fact that I was asked for extra payment to use the sauna. If you are a gold diamond or silver member this is a free service. Sadly, double standards. My husband and I like to have saunas and we’re looking forward to making use of this facilitybut not prepared to pay an extra €14 on top of the already quite significant cost. We would not have chosen to come to the Hilton over New Year’s had we known this beforehand? Sorry to say, Get more for your money and go elsewhere .

We stayed for one night to visit the Christmas Markets, we had an early morning flight so arrived before check in. Lisa was wonderful and allowed us to check in and get in to the room much earlier than expected. (Thank you Lisa, you are a wonderful human, a fantastic example of just how to be front desk). We also received a lovely gift in the room of wine, water and popcorn. The room itself was just fine, mini fridge available if thats your thing. Clean and warm, beds so comfy! Bathroom clean and spacious, just be mindful of where the shower head is facing, I got soaked through pyjamas as the head was facing outwards. Breakfast was busy, plenty of choice from fresh fruit juices, hot and cold options and lots of it. Check out was at 11 and we were able to leave our bags and explore the local market again before collecting them and making our way back to the airport. Overall, a definite place to stay in Berlin.

We booked this hotel as it was advertised as 5 star accommodation, the reality was far from this. The location is excellent in the heart of the city, However the room was underwhelming with a shower curtain in the bathroom and where would you find 5 star accommodation with a shower curtain? Nowhere in my experience. Furthermore, we arrived early expecting to leave our bags and were told that the room was ready and we could check-in but would need to pay the early check-in fee which we accepted but again hardly a five star offering. Most importantly if the room is ready why charge? Surely the charge is when you pre-organise and they need extra staff etc to provide this. This is clearly just profiteering. Another issue although I did not mention it at the time was that the room was fairly cold. I attempted to adjust the air conditioning but it did not increase the temperature but just blew out cold air so I switched it off and sat under the covers in the bed when we were in the room. All in all a nice break but in spite of the hotel not because of what it offered.

Stayed as a family of four in two rooms (which were next to each other which was perfect) for a pre-Christmas break to take in the Christmas markets and history of Berlin. Really positive experience from start to finish. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, location is fantastic and rooms were spacious and well equipped. Will be returning to Berlin and will not look at other hotels; will simply book the Hilton again; its perfect for a City break.
