Awful Stay – No Air Conditioning, No Sleep, No Luxury

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We are currently on our second night at the Hilton Hotel, and honestly, we cannot wait to leave on Monday. The problems started as soon as we arrived. We reported the air conditioning issue immediately at check-in and were told a technician would come — but no one showed up. We had to report it three separate times before a technician finally came today. By then, we had already spent a night in a boiling hot room. None of us could sleep properly — it was unbearably warm and uncomfortable, especially with a one-year-old child and my elderly mum. When the technician eventually came around 9:30 PM, he said there was a blockage, poured water into the system, and told us it should cool down in about an hour. It never did. The room is still far too hot. I read some reviews today that airconditioning has always been an issue here and others have had the same exact experience like ours. The technician did try to offer a “fan” he probably knew already that the issue will not be resolved. Out of frustration, I also had to call EasyJet Holidays directly, as we booked this trip as part of a “luxury” holiday package — but absolutely nothing about this hotel stay has felt luxurious. They requested for a room transfer for us and Hilton refused. Breakfast service was another disaster. We were left waiting for over 30 minutes with no assistance, despite me carrying my infant and clearly struggling. Staff were disorganized, slow, and inattentive. This holiday was meant to be a special birthday celebration for my son and mum, but it’s been nothing short of a disaster. We paid a premium expecting a 5-star experience and received terrible service and uncomfortable conditions instead. Avoid staying here. Extremely disappointing.

Excellent second stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My second stay at this hotel and this is definitely my hotel of choice when staying in Berlin. The facilities are first rate, rooms are clean and comfortable. With it being Easter weekend, it was very busy and this became problematic with the lifts constantly being busy and requiring more patience than normal. Location is very convenient; about five minutes walk to Checkpoint Charlie. 15 minutes to Museum Island and the Brandenburg Gate. I would definitely stay here again if I returned to Berlin.

Central to Berlin

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Just returned the reception and breakfast area are well looked after and the cat robot cleaner is brilliant to watch . But the rooms are not maintained well and yes there was drilling and no we were not informed about before or when checking in by reception staff . There was an incident while we were checking in that made me wonder were security was ?. The breakfast was good and had no trouble finding a table the room standard was poor mould in bathroom grout .scratched veneer surface and what looked like makeup stain on carpet .two lifts were not working but no sign was put up about this Hotel is central to Berlin so it’s good to get around

Great location but I can't wait to leave this hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Currently still in the hotel until tomorrow so the review may change but I doubt it. When we arrived on a late flight we wanted to just get something from room service but found that our room phone didn't work meaning I had to go down to the reception. They said that the phone would get fixed but nothing came of it. The room had a layer of dust on the surfaces but was generally ok. The mattresses are incredibly hard, like sleeping on concrete. I have suffered with my back since being here and can't wait to leave. We were then woken by constant drilling above us and couldn't call down to ask what it was meaning I had to get dressed to go and find out. The man on reception said that they are refurbishing the hotel but this isn't advertised. We were given a different room on 6 (current), which is smaller, again a layer of dust on everything especially the phone and TV remote. The bathroom is a lot smaller, the door doesn't shut properly and needs to be slammed, and the toilet doesn't flush properly meaning that whatever the last person did seems to remain and the water is never clean. Our current floor seems to be where housekeeping keep their carts and cleaning supplies because they are just left in walkways and in any little area possible. We have been moved to the storage floor it feels. The restaurant is closed so the only food available is room service food eaten either at the bar or in your room. When using the pool, the women have to walk through the gym to access the pool because the door in the changing room which leads directly to the pool is closed off for some reason. Which means walking through in your bathers. Staff are lovely and the location is excellent. But I can't wait to leave

Good hotel for city center access.

Spent 3 nights here. Positives: location; very helpful staff; nicely done breakfast; attractive common areas. Negatives: room was very hot. There was no temperature setting and the best you might get is 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The AC also shuts off whenever there is no movement in the room. So at night you wake up feeling about 80 degrees and have to move around to get any AC to work. I called the desk on my day of arrival and was told this is how the AC works and nothing could be done. FYI: the executive lounge is being remodeled. Service is still given in a section of the lobby. Breakfast restaurant is also being remodeled. Again the service is provided in the lobby area. The saunas are being remodeled and unavailable.
