So incredibly disappointing. As a lifetime platinum member I understand when things occasionally go wrong — but the true test of a good hotel is how the management and staff address any such bumps or interruptions in excellent service. I have to say — the team at Westin Grand Hotel failed at an epic level on my recent visit. The pathetic response to a major issue was so unbelievably poor that the whole experience has me seriously questioning my loyalty to the entire brand. Hilton — are you listening? I might be ready to make a jump after decades of devotion. Yes, it was actually that bad.

Checked in a little late, staff were all friendly, professional and spoke perfect English. Our room on the 3rd floor was fabulous, the bed was enormous with a lovely comfortable mattress with no roll together. The room was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was great quality and the shower was nice and hot and big. The location of the hotel was ideal for exploring Berlin. Being on the road means that there is quite a lot of noise outside from traffic even with the window shut, but I suppose you have to expect her being in the City Centre. It was difficult to find the affordable hotels in the immediate vicinity, but we did find a fantastic Thai restaurant just around the corner called bonjour Thai - the food and atmosphere were fab. We didn’t try the spa as we didn’t have time during this visit, and we didn’t buy breakfast as the prices are extortionate, and we usually end up having just a bit of porridge. But the room was worth the stay and would definitely come again.

Stayed here as part of an APT tour & it was fabulous. Close to shopping, Christmas markets & sights. Staff were great, rooms comfy & spacious with good housekeeping. Really good full buffet breakfast. Highly recommend this hotel.

Overall a full service, clean hotel in a good location. Arrival: Arrived by Uber from the main train station. No doormen upon arrival. Check in: Fairly efficient check in process. Asked for a free room upgrade based on my Marriott/Westin status and the clerk upgraded us to a junior suite. Room Junior Suite 572: A large, comfortable room, huge by European standards. The suite included a large living room and a separate bedroom with king bed. Both the living room and bedroom had smallish Samsung TVs (small by U.S. standards). Nice coffee maker and mini refrigerator. Bathroom: Decent bathroom with good counter space and great lighting. Downside is no tub- shower only. Water pressure was adequate. Mediocre but functional hair dryer. Bed: King sized bed with decent linens. We had to remove the heavy liner from the duvet because the room was on the warm side. Sleep quality: Better than average, but some street noise made its way through the windows. Housekeeping: Unless you’re proactive in asking, the housekeeping is below average. For example, we had no facial tissues for 2 days. Once we left a note and a tip, the facial tissue was restocked. Sometimes complimentary water was restocked, some days not. Breakfast restaurant: Based on our Marriott status, we received a nice complimentary breakfasts. Service at the breakfast restaurant is pathetic, but the food was good. We consistently were not served coffee. So we simply grabbed coffee urns each morning. Staff for some reason only offered coffee and any level of service to older Germans. Anyone foreign or young the staff ignored. Overall service: Between reluctant and non-existent. That’s Germany for you. Don’t expect helpful staff. Gym: Small but functional gym with standard exercise equipment like treadmills, weights, etc. Power outlets: Be sure to bring adapters for German outlets. The room had no U.S.-type power outlets. Misc: (1) On our last day, we found a silverfish in the bathroom. Also, this hotel allows pets. We consistently heard dogs barking on rooms. (2) There’s a Rewe grocery store about 5 blocks away from the hotel. Bring reusable grocery bags to haul your purchases back to the hotel. (3) We were skeptical but tried a Kebab restaurant nearby. Wow! The Donor kebaps are great! Try Mr. Kebab 4 blocks away.
