Excellent hotel

Stayed here as part of an APT tour & it was fabulous. Close to shopping, Christmas markets & sights. Staff were great, rooms comfy & spacious with good housekeeping. Really good full buffet breakfast. Highly recommend this hotel.

Overall nice Westin in a good part of Berlin

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Overall a full service, clean hotel in a good location. Arrival: Arrived by Uber from the main train station. No doormen upon arrival. Check in: Fairly efficient check in process. Asked for a free room upgrade based on my Marriott/Westin status and the clerk upgraded us to a junior suite. Room Junior Suite 572: A large, comfortable room, huge by European standards. The suite included a large living room and a separate bedroom with king bed. Both the living room and bedroom had smallish Samsung TVs (small by U.S. standards). Nice coffee maker and mini refrigerator. Bathroom: Decent bathroom with good counter space and great lighting. Downside is no tub- shower only. Water pressure was adequate. Mediocre but functional hair dryer. Bed: King sized bed with decent linens. We had to remove the heavy liner from the duvet because the room was on the warm side. Sleep quality: Better than average, but some street noise made its way through the windows. Housekeeping: Unless you’re proactive in asking, the housekeeping is below average. For example, we had no facial tissues for 2 days. Once we left a note and a tip, the facial tissue was restocked. Sometimes complimentary water was restocked, some days not. Breakfast restaurant: Based on our Marriott status, we received a nice complimentary breakfasts. Service at the breakfast restaurant is pathetic, but the food was good. We consistently were not served coffee. So we simply grabbed coffee urns each morning. Staff for some reason only offered coffee and any level of service to older Germans. Anyone foreign or young the staff ignored. Overall service: Between reluctant and non-existent. That’s Germany for you. Don’t expect helpful staff. Gym: Small but functional gym with standard exercise equipment like treadmills, weights, etc. Power outlets: Be sure to bring adapters for German outlets. The room had no U.S.-type power outlets. Misc: (1) On our last day, we found a silverfish in the bathroom. Also, this hotel allows pets. We consistently heard dogs barking on rooms. (2) There’s a Rewe grocery store about 5 blocks away from the hotel. Bring reusable grocery bags to haul your purchases back to the hotel. (3) We were skeptical but tried a Kebab restaurant nearby. Wow! The Donor kebaps are great! Try Mr. Kebab 4 blocks away.

Stay at the hotel for holidays

It was a nice stay at the hotel ! We came to celebrate the New Year at the hotel and spend time for the holidays in Berlin . The hotel is well located and it is easy to take the metro . The rooms are nice but the cleaning is not always done tiderly. The house keeper leaves the pyjama unfolded on the bed side table and doesn't put it back on the bed. For the dinner of the New Year, they put waiters that are still on training and don't have experience for big events !!! They forget what we ask them to bring and are afraid of removing the plates ! The DJ only puts music for elderly people and we ask him to change, he says in 10 minutes and then it happened two hours later, at 1 am more or less... The DJ cannot put music that is easily available on YouTube. The dinner is very expensive and the service is not appropriate to such an event. For the breakfast, a couple of waiters are not so nice and some times are unpleasant with the guests. At the reception, they have some time reactions that are not so correct . It is supposed to be a trustful relationship and when they act like this, it doesn't encourage you to come back. The Christmas decorations are beautiful and the atmosphere is nice despite all this things mentioned above !!! The noise level is fine !

Average at best. Not five star.

Very good location. Excellent concierge. Public spaces were nice (apart from the breakfast room which is very tired and dated). One of our rooms was good, the other was just about ok (clearly not refurbished). TV did not work properly (no casting), hair dryer was broken. Fixtures a bit tired. We had requested our two rooms to be close together as we were travelling as a family. We were given rooms at opposite ends of the hotel - we literally couldn’t get further away from each other. We had requested for a card or small acknowledgment of some sort to be left in our daughter’s room for her 21st birthday. This was enthusiastically agreed but not actually done. Breakfast was utterly chaotic and the food was average at best. There was no management of seating, so everyone was just let through the door and left to scramble for the very few spare tables (please don’t use the ‘we were busy’ excuse - you are a five star hotel and should be managing capacity and entry). We had mixed experiences with staff in the bar - one evening very friendly and helpful, the next evening very rude and dismissive (she was so rude we chose to leave). We have had many five star experiences in our time, and this visit to Westin Grand was certainly not one of them.
