Reviews for Westin Grand Berlin

Good for the most part

Overall, this is a nice hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful despite the language barrier, and the property is well maintained. The rooms are on the small side but were clean and perfectly adequate for our stay. Our room had a closet but no dresser, which made unpacking a little inconvenient. The bathroom was also quite small, with very limited counter space. The hotel has a beautiful garden and patio area that is perfect for relaxing, although there is no pool. The only negative experience we had occurred on the patio. We had purchased gelato elsewhere and decided to sit outside for a few minutes while we ate it. Almost immediately after sitting down, a server asked if we wanted anything. We replied, “Not at the moment,” as we hadn’t even had time to look around. She responded that we couldn’t sit there unless we bought something. We explained that we were guests at the hotel, but she said something in German and walked away visibly upset. Unsure whether this was actually hotel policy, we went inside and asked the front desk. The receptionist apologized and assured us that there was no such policy, especially since the patio was more than half empty. He said he would speak with the bar staff, who manage the patio. We later saw him doing just that. I completely understand if the patio had been busy or if we had occupied a table for an extended period without ordering. However, expecting guests to place an order immediately after sitting down—and responding rudely when they don’t—is not good customer service. Ironically, we likely would have ordered drinks or dessert if we had simply been given a few minutes to settle in. Aside from that isolated incident, we enjoyed our stay. The hotel itself is comfortable, the staff at the front desk were welcoming and professional, and we would consider staying here again.

A lovely and well located luxury hotel

This is a lovely and centrally located luxury hotel. Staff is bilingual and were very friendly and helpful. I was upgraded to a suite (based on Marriott status), and the suite was fantastic. The hotel is right next to the Unter den Linden subway station, so it's easy to get anywhere in the city. I did not take advantage of the restaurant or fitness center, so I cannot comment on them. But very close are other restaurants and shopping. You can't go wrong with the Grand Westin.

Memorable stay at Germany

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Stayed for 5 nights stay and the experience was excellent. The staff at this hotel were all outstanding, and warmth of reception and assistance exceeded what I have generally seen, even with 100+ hotel nights a year. The club room on the top floor has a top notch breakfast, and afternoon appetizers, and a super staff as well. The hotel is a bit out of town, but the subway stop is only 200 meters away and they sell the tickets at the hotel. It is a straight 10 minute ride to and worked out great for a visit to the city and downtown. I highly recommend this hotel.

A few issues

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

First let me say that the staff are very nice and helpful and the property is in a great location in Berlin…close to everything. We arrived in the morning for our 4 night stay and the front desk staff was good enough to let us check in early, and as Platinum members we were upgraded to a Junior Suite. The room they gave us was uncomfortably warm, and after an hour with the a/c turned on max the room never cooled…not even slightly. There was simply no air moving in the room. We called the front desk who dispatched maintenance. Upon arriving the maintenance worker explained to us that there are these panels in the ceiling that cool the room as water gathers in them and that it takes a long time...I was a little confused by all that…either way, it didn’t. We gave it a long time after he left but the room never cooled. We then requested another room. We had to downgrade to a smaller room for availability at that hour. No problem. We get into the new room….The air conditioner worked fine with cool air coming out of the vents, no weird ceiling panels in this one. The layout and the cleanliness of the room was fine. The new problem was that water was overflowing in the shower because it wouldn’t drain properly. We called requesting a diff room but there was no availability…so we decided to check out mid stay. The front desk personnel questioned us why we didn’t tell them as they would have sent maintenance. Fair question. Listen, I’m not waiting around for plumbers, drains to be snaked, etc. You have that stuff done on your time, not mine. Do regular draining tests of your showers periodically. And I hope you did fix the problem with this room after we left. We ended up checking into another Marriott prop in Berlin and all was well…the vacation was saved. Under diff circumstances maybe we’d give this prop another try.

Terrific hote

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I loved The Westin Grand Berlin. We spent a week there in May. I highly recommend it. The location, rooms and staff especially Agnieszka T and Heiko Forster were terrific. The breakfast was first class. I realized the first morning that they didn’t have something that I enjoyed and they went out of their way to make sure everything that I wanted (and the way I wanted it) was available daily. I have a simple request every time we travel. I want to feel special. Most hotels require a little prompting to know your expectations. This was the first hotel that I feel makes everyone feel special. The hotel was warm and elegant without being pretentious. If I had to describe the service and attributes I want in a hotel I wouldn’t go any further then describing The Westin Grand Berlin. There are many hotels in Berlin. This is luxurious and accommodating for travelers. This is truly a five star hotel that treats you royally. It’s a Grand hotel and you will feel very special. It’s elegant and modern. I personally want to thank everyone for making me feel so wonderful. Please don’t change anything and I look forward to returning.
