Hotel de Rome is located on Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden. It is a conversion of an existing building constructed in 1889 by architect Ludwig Heim (appointed master builder of the government), which housed the head office of Dresdner Bank until 1945. This is one of the few luxury hotels in Berlin located in an original building making use of its full architectural splendour and thereby offering guests an authentic Berlin experience. The ornate and classical design of the original building has been given a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer, who also designed the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Tommaso Ziffer has been assisted by architects Aukett + Heese with Olga Polizzi and her design team at Rocco Forte Hotels.

Just came back from a 3 day stay in Berlin at the Hotel De Rome. The hotel's location was excellent. It is positioned perfectly to walk to many important sites. The Bellman were so friendly always greeting us with a big hello or asking if we needed assistance. Our room was exactly as you would expect from a luxury hotel. There is a great rooftop on the 4th floor to have a drink with great city views (weather permitting) Our only disappointment was in the breakfast. We felt that the options were limited and the seasonal fruit selection was not that great. Still, I was happy that we chose to stay at Hotel De Rome vs the location of the Ritz Carlton.

My brother and I, operating under our travel banner "The Flight Club," recently descended upon Berlin. Our objective: Hotel De Rome. I can say without reservation that it is an establishment of the highest order. The Reception & The Troops: Upon our arrival, we were met not by cold efficiency, but by a reception staff possessing that rarest of virtues: wit. They greeted us with a twinkle in the eye and a spirit of genuine camaraderie. This excellence extended to the sentries at the gate—the outside security—who maintain a vigilant watch while offering a welcome as warm as a victory parade. Even the housekeeping staff deserve a mention; they are a joyful lot, keeping our quarters in "ship-shape" with a humor that brightened the halls. The Quarters: Our room was, in a word, magnificent. It was a vast expanse of luxury with a view of Berlin that would make any statesman pause in reflection. It served as a grand headquarters for our stay. The Victuals (and a Small Tactical Error): The dining areas are splendid. Breakfast on the ground floor is managed by a team whose dedication to service is nothing short of heroic. Then, of course, there is the Rooftop Terrace. The atmosphere is sublime, and the view is unmatched. However, even the best campaigns face "friction": • The Delay: The arrival of our dinner took a duration that would have tested the patience of a saint. • The Diversion: When the rations finally emerged, they were mistakenly delivered to the neighboring table. • The Resolution: In the spirit of the Flight Club, we did not waver. We conducted a swift "sorting out" ourselves and successfully reclaimed our plates from the neighbors. The Amenities: We ventured into the hotel’s pool—a truly luxurious environment. However, the water possessed a "bracing" quality. It was a short-lived swim; one must know when to beat a tactical retreat from a cold bath. The Verdict: Hotel De Rome is a triumph. Despite a minor lapse in the supply chain at dinner, the service, the people, and the sheer grandeur of the place are indomitable. I recommend it to any traveler seeking a base of operations in Berlin. Never in the field of travel has so much been enjoyed, by so few, in such a large room.

The Hotel De Rome is incredible. We stayed here in June 2024. The service and attention to detail is unmatched. We were upgraded to premier rooms which were stunning. The hotel is very well located and an easy walk to most attractions. The roof top terrace has amazing views over Berlin. We will definitely be back.
