Hotel de Rome is located on Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden. It is a conversion of an existing building constructed in 1889 by architect Ludwig Heim (appointed master builder of the government), which housed the head office of Dresdner Bank until 1945. This is one of the few luxury hotels in Berlin located in an original building making use of its full architectural splendour and thereby offering guests an authentic Berlin experience. The ornate and classical design of the original building has been given a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer, who also designed the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Tommaso Ziffer has been assisted by architects Aukett + Heese with Olga Polizzi and her design team at Rocco Forte Hotels.

I was at Bebel Square with my daughter and another friend. I wanted to use the restroom, but couldn't find anything except the Hotel in front of me : De Rome , so I asked the doorman, and he told me I could use the restaurant's restroom. Unfortunately, the restroom was out of service due to some work, so one of the ladies at the reception suggested to use another restroom at the end of the hall. I walked to the end of it and found no restrooms or signs so I was about to go back to the reception when a charming young man with silver hair resembling Richard Gere came out of one of the doors, greeted me with a friendly smile, and said something in German that, unfortunately, I didn't understand. However, he understood that I didn't speak German and asked me in English if I needed anything or if he can help. I said "Bathroom please," so he walked me to the bathroom door, opened it for me, and wished me a nice day, always with a charming smile. As I left the bathroom, I saw the same person closing one of the doors opposite the restroom. Through , I saw a large Room with a hanging chandelier and Since I'm an architect, my interest was piqued. I said, "Wow, great. Is this a Party Room ?" He replied, "It's a multi-purpose ballroom and conference hall." Then he opened the door again and said very invitingly, "Come in please, I walked in and, oh my Gosh , I was just losing my mind. It was so Majestic . I thanked him for his kindness. Then I said to myself, but out loud, "Unfortunately, my daughter and my friend were waiting for me outside; they would have love to see this Ballroom as well." He asked me if I was a guest at the hotel. I said no and explained the situation to him. My daughter and my friend were waiting outside the hotel. He said, "I'll wait. You can bring the others. I'll be happy to show you the room" I asked, "Are you sure?" It was obvious you were just about to leave and finish your workday. He replied with a sweet laugh, I don’t think ten minutes will ruin my day. I quickly went and brought the ladies with me and found the nice young man waiting for us at the end of the hallway leading to the restroom. He welcomed us again and led us into the grand hall, turned on the lights and began explaining the history and characteristics of the place. He also offered us a glass of water (very generous of him). My daughter is also studying architecture and found it an opportunity to ask many questions and each time he answered in a beautiful and charming way. After that, he told us that in the hotel we have the most beautiful rooftop in Berlin and one of the most beautiful in the world and he will be pleased to show it to us ( what a great salesman). So We went upstairs and oh my gosh what a great view with the church and the big Tower a breathtaking view. I thanked him again and told him that we would now let him go home. He thanked us too and walked us to the exit, wishing us a happy holiday. What I want to say is that five-star hotels are generally no different from each other, But what makes the difference are the people who work in these hotels. I have been lucky to have traveled to many places in the world and most of my stays were in hotels classified as this time in Adlon. I don't know when I will return to Berlin, but when I do, I will definitely book at the Rome Hotel. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the person who gave us this wonderful human experience, which I will never forget, but as I said before, he is a charming young man with a nice gray hair who wears glasses and has very good English with a mix of American and British accent. Great Hotel such a beautiful city amazing food.

Everything a fine hotel should be. Perfectly managed. Helpful staff, excellent room, outstanding room service and bar. Fine location. Would recommend unequivocally. Can’t think of a flaw. Perhaps our room could have been a but larger to have a sofa and view. But that’s minor given all the pluses.

A magnificent hotel superly positioned for all the central attractions of Berlin. That Is only a part of the experience. From the moment you arrive, you can sense the service level is dialled up to max. We booked a top floor suite which was luxurious, but was worth the money. In addition we opted for the breakfast (wonderful food great service) and also booked an evening meal at their signature restaurant. It was Asparagus week, and the wiener schnitzel was massive and just fabulous. We didn't get to try the pool due to not having time, so cannot vouch for that, but if everything else is this good then... When (not if) we are next in Berlin, we will head back to this wonderful refuge. Thank you to all the staff.

Beautiful, luxurious hotel. Excellent staff except for bartenders. The bar either had no bartenders available though the bar was open OR they had inexperienced bartenders who carefully measure out expense single malt scotch, then spill half of it putting it in a glass making an expense scotch twice the cost. Nice hotel but don't drink there.

I don't even know where to start, so I will say that this is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. They thought of everything in order to make us feel comfortable and happy. The room was tremendous for a city hotel, the bed was comfortable and the shower was splendid.( hot water and great water pressure). They leave big bottles of water, one still, one sparkling included with the room. Every evening we would get back from dinner and find a new surprise in our room...slippers, toothpaste and especially fun was a soccer slate board with 3 macarons commemorating the German Cup soccer Final which was taking place that evening. Special thanks to Stella, the concierge who went above and beyond to help us...making reservations, helping us choose restaurants, even changing the date of show tickets we had.
