As the official guesthouse of the Swiss government, the Bellevue Palace has been a place of living history for over 150 years. It is the only Grand Hotel in the heart of the Swiss Capital and offers magnificent lounges, superb views of the Bernese Alps and heartfelt hospitality, making of it an exceptional landmark and a unique address. The hotel is an iconic venue for diplomats and politicians and a common meeting hub for the whole of Bern. Enjoy “la Belle Vie” at the Bellevue Palace.

This hotel is a stately classic. The rooms and appointments were second to none, and in my opinion, the location is the best in the beautiful city of Bern. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a gorgeous suite with an amazing view, which further enhanced our experience. The reception staff and most other staff were amazing, friendly and accommodating, as is to be expected as a norm in a hotel of this caliber and price-level. However, on the last night of our stay, while having late afternoon cocktails on the outdoor terrace, the two male servers that we dealt with were brusque and rather rude to us (and we are extremely easy-going, non-demanding folks), which we found to be surprising based on our pleasant interactions with all other staff, and off-putting based on the expense and premier status of this hotel. Having said that - what a beautiful place and a wonderful stay overall, and therefore I'm still compelled to give my review 5 stars. We would definitely return and recommend the Bellevue Palace to others despite this issue, which I'm confident can be easily and effectively remedied by what is obviously an otherwise first class organization.

Booked this hotel on a short notice, based purely on the online reviews and boy, were we in for a surprise!!!!! Right from the location of the hotel to the beautiful architecture to the phenomenal service levels of the entire staff, especially the front desk and housekeeping, we were left impressed with our stay and would surely like to stay here whenever in Bern next.

The hotel staff were very helpful as I planned a small work trip for me and my colleagues. Not only were they great with all our typical needs for the hotel stay, they also helped me find car service for a team building event outside of the city. The hotel is also in a great location with gorgeous views.

A Loyal Guest’s Honest Reflection After Two Decades of Enjoyment I’ve been a devoted guest of the Hotel Bellevue Palace in Bern for over 20 years, often returning for the elegance, service, and above all, the refined experience of enjoying a fine cigar — whether in the iconic fumoir or on the stunning terrace that offers one of the most distinguished views in the city. It is with genuine disappointment that I now find myself compelled to share my thoughts on a recent policy change that, in my view, significantly diminishes the character and comfort that once defined this establishment. As of now, smoking on the terrace is strictly prohibited at all times. Instead, guests are directed to a rather uninspired and poorly appointed corner at the back of the building, which sadly lacks the ambiance, comfort, and dignity one would expect from a five-star hotel of this reputation. To add to this, a minimum fee of CHF 30 per person is now charged in the designated smoking area after 6 p.m. — a policy I find not only excessive, but frankly misplaced. While I fully understand the evolving perspectives on smoking and the need to accommodate all guests respectfully, this new approach feels neither balanced nor thoughtfully executed. Instead, it risks alienating a long-standing clientele who have always chosen the Bellevue not merely for accommodation, but for a cultivated atmosphere and timeless hospitality. One can only hope the management reconsiders these decisions in a way that honors both tradition and progress — with discretion, fairness, and an eye for preserving the spirit of this exceptional place. Respectfully, A loyal guest and admirer of refined hospitality
