Hotel Du Palais Biarritz

The hotel is a masterpiece of architecture having once been royal accommodations.. It is on a secure gated grounds in the middle of Biarritz and within walking distance of the downtown area. It offers a top shelf restaurant, beautiful spacious rooms and excellent service. It has apool and fitness area and there is nothing more delightful than enjoying a cocktail in their lovely bar area.

We stayed here as part of Backroads and added an extra night as a Hyatt Globalist. We had never heard of it before our vacation but it turned out to be one of our all-time favorite hotels! The setting, history, and elegance were extraordinary!

Each time we stay here, we feel welcome and very well taken care of. The staff are friendly and they make us feel like returning family members. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable, with every imaginable luxury. The gardens are delightful and the location is perfect, a short walk from the Grand Plage and the shopping areas. The only disappointment we encountered was when they changed the beds, which we found in March 2026 and again now in Sep2026, where they now have a railing under the bed to lift the bed for the maids, but as a result our manual hoyer lift no longer can roll under the bed, making it extremely difficult for us to manage getting me in and out of the bed as I cannot stand so I am dependent on our lift. My wife now has a very hard time of it as a result of this change, making the PMR (wheelchair accessible) room not quite so accessible anymore, and this makes us less enthusiastic about returning as often as we would like to. When we complained about this in March 2026, the response was simply that this was a "corporate decision" and that was the end of it. There are only a few PMR rooms (3 or 4) in the hotel, and those rooms could easily still have a regular bed to accomodate the needs of disabled customers without too much inconvenience for the housekeepers. On the other hand, the bathroom sink faucet in the PMR rooms previously had an automatic motion sensor which was terribly inconvenient, and after we complained about that, it was changed to a regular faucet which is much easier to use, and we do appreciate that this customer-requested change was honored.

Excellent hotel in every respect. Can't find fault anywhere - seriously! Breakfast of the highest quality and all the staff are quite superb - generous and helpful at all times. Beautiful well kept gardens and a lovely warm pool, with every facility you could desire. Fabulous sea views from every angle. And whilst it's unfair to single out any one member of the team, nevertheless a special shout out to Alvaro on Reception who stepped in to help when our flight was cancelled following the NATS failure ... no-one could have been more helpful. Highly recommended to anyone who visits Biarritz.

A truly magnificent hotel in the most beautiful setting. From the moment we arrived we were treated like old friends and made so welcome. Alvaro deserves special mention for his professionalism, charisma and kindness .
