This review is based on our personal experience(s). This property has so much potential, all of the staff that we met are very nice and actually try as best they can to make your stay good, but limited staff and lack of maintenance crew during our brief stay led to less than desirable service and a far less than anticipated stay at what was the first 'getaway' that my wife and I have had, alone, in years. And the place is not cheap by any means so I guess we expected a bit more from a value proposition perspective as we typically rent luxury lodging in the mountains somewhat routinely! Upon checking in we noticed that our room was not cool, but waited a bit to see if the AC would kick in. A short time later we called the innkeeper on call due to fact our internet was not working and the AC unit was not producing cool air. The response was that the internet was down due to storm(understandable) and that they do not have a maintenance person at present and nobody could come check on the unit until the next day(odd for a resort to not have somebody that can check on a mechanical in a room at 430pm in the day). After the innkeeper personally came to room and recognized that the AC in fact was not working, she called her manager and we were offered the ability to change rooms and told specifically that we would not be required to change again. Well, we were already unpacked and ready for dinner; not to mention the fact we had our dog with us. We packed everything back up, moved rooms in the middle of a rain storm, unpacked, and went about our evening. Things happen and while this was a minor inconvenience we were most understanding. The room we moved to was exceptionally nice, a definite upgrade, and we were grateful for the consideration given the fact we had reservations for four nights, were put through the ringer for the first 1.5 hours of our visit with them, now late for dinner, had a packed agenda including spa treatment at the property, and the area was pretty much sold out making it difficult for us to find another property to stay in for the week. The innkeeper was most apologetic for the situation and said that she checked with the main manager and we could stay there for the duration. Breakfast the next morning was a bit frustrating given the lack of staff. We, literally, stood in the manor trying to find someone upon arrival as there was nobody present. About 20 minutes later the chef came over, apologized as he was apparently working on something in the spa, and personally seated us. There was only one other table seated during our breakfast(came down after we arrived). Very limited option(s), exactly 3, but quality was good. Service was slow but understandable given fact it appeared that the Chef was a one person show until the innkeeper on call that morning came in at the end of our breakfast. After breakfast I went to gym/spa to workout and utilize the steam facility. Workout room is sufficient for a small property such as this, the facility in general looks nice, but unfortunately the steam room was broken and has been for some time according to a couple of employees. So, 3 negative(s) in a very short period of time, but I continued to remain optimistic for what was ahead as we literally just arrived late afternoon the day before. Well, late afternoon/early eve we received a call from the innkeeper for the day saying that we would have to move back to our original room the next morning(YES, two moves in a short period of time) as a booking supposedly came in for the room that we were placed in and there was a miscommunication between the innkeeper the night that we arrived(the day before) and the manager of the property. At this point in time we were not going to go through the process of once again packing/unpacking and moving so we politely told the innkeeper that we would be checking out the next morning. If we had to pack up and move out again it would be for home! Oddly enough, when checking out we were told that the air conditioning in the original room(the one they also wanted us to move back into) was still not working properly. Imagine that! Not surprised as another employee told us it continuously has issues. Had we gone through the frustration of moving again we would merely have had to move out and leave anyways due to no air conditioning. Unbelievable! Needless to say we will never visit this property again; instead going to the other properties in the area that have provided us with exceptional experiences for the past 20 years.

Went to Westglow for an anniversary weekend. It exceeded expectations in every way. The accommodations are first rate. Recommend Larger King Balcony (Room #3) as its western facing balcony is shaded and comfortable in afternoon and evening. Jennifer, hotel manager, is the best and helped make everything perfect. Andrew in the bar makes the very best cocktails ever and Chef Michael prepared one of our favorite meals ever. Breakfast is fantastic and the spa is amazing. Highly recommend Westglow for an outstanding and memorable experience!

My wife and I spent four days at Westglow and had a memorable experience overall. The standout of our stay was Jennifer, who went above and beyond in helping plan our trip. She was incredibly attentive, professional, and genuinely cared about our experience — a true gem. We stayed in Room #3 at the Manor, which was charming and well-stocked (even had a clothing steamer!). The bathroom was beautiful, featuring a smart mirror and upscale toiletries. However, the shower was difficult to operate, with unclear temperature controls and inconsistent water pressure — especially when the restaurant was busy. Breakfast was a highlight — Chef Warren made an incredible bacon cheddar omelette and was such a kind presence. We didn’t dine formally but enjoyed a bar-side smash burger that was absolutely amazing. The charcuterie board, on the other hand, was just okay. Staff across the board were kind and professional — Andrew and Ben at the bar made great cocktails and were super personable, and housekeeping kept our room spotless. The spa amenities were nice, but the facility is showing signs of wear (visible patchwork, peeling paint, and an aging bridge that felt questionable in terms of safety). The grounds are gorgeous, but we were disappointed to find the walking trail overgrown and inaccessible. One final note: this is a very upscale environment. We weren’t prepared for just how high-end the setting and clientele would be, and at times felt out of place due to the formality and some cold glances from other guests. All in all, we’re thankful for the opportunity to stay at Westglow and meet such incredible staff. While we’re unsure if we’d return due to the pricing and social atmosphere, we genuinely appreciated the care we received and would come back simply to see the wonderful team again.

We had a delightful evening and received top notch service from everyone, particularly the bar manager. The atmosphere was beautiful and historic. We felt very celebrated on a special occasion. A breathing spot to relax and enjoy. We will certainly return.

My Momma used to say to me, “Kate, if your hair doesn’t look good, nothing else will.” As usual, she was correct, and now, after finding Jon-David or JD at WestGlow Salon, it is proven. Walking into the salon, you immediately notice how organized the stylized space is with the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains surrounding it. I gravitated to his chair, where his lovely and entertaining personality quickly appeared. You also learn soon from his experience that he knows his stuff. He listened intently to what I wanted, and then I watched him begin to work his magic. Who knew that when it was time to wash, I would be treated to the best head and hair massage that I had ever experienced by a professional? I continued my relaxing spa experience as my hair was blown dry, and I anticipated seeing the finished product. As the blowdryer was last unplugged, and I saw my hair, I could have given JD a salon-sitting ovation. Sunkissed, shiny, and styling. The word being grateful is not strong enough. I bet every woman who finally finds the right stylist for her knows what that means. The weight of my unhappy hair was lifted, and I knew this would be a lasting relationship. Thank you, JD. For everything. Until next time. Your pleased client and new friend, Kate
