Capelongue

Perched on a hilltop next to the small village of Bonnieux, this property without a doubt delivers views of the natural beauty of Provenance from every angle; however, the restaurant and the front desk staff have gaps in service leaving room for improvement. From an overall design perspective: Recently renovated and expanded the design of the hotel blends modern design aesthetics with the classic and historic nature of the original structures on or near the resort. The use of warm earthy red hues is contemporary but also gives a nod to the ochre cliffs of nearby Rossillon. All the buildings have been thoughtfully designed with a cohesive style connecting every space on the property. From a service perspective: Staff is friendly, though I was surprised for a five star resort there was no concierge. When I asked for a recommendation on a restaurant outside of the resort team seemed to dart eye contact around the room to decide on who would help, once someone did step up to assist me they pulled recommendations from a file on their computer, it did not seem there was anyone on staff with any true knowledge of the area, restaurants or activities outside of the hotel group. Modern services like a WhatsApp conversation with the hotel is great and did come in handy; however, American style model of add-ons and upselling did take away from the feeling of luxury. At breakfast service at La Bergerie on the property always seemed a bit jumbled, often unclear who was our server and it did seem slow many times to get things like coffee or tea. From a food perspective: Because the property is somewhat remote most breakfasts and lunches are at La Bergerie. Breakfast selection was limited and became boring after three nights of the same thing. Dinner and lunch menu were along the lines of what someone would except from a hotel restaurant. Note: Although, you should to accept that being in the countryside means you will encounter bugs, the amount of flies and bees in the morning and evening at both the indoor and outdoor tables of La Bergerie did start to detract for the meal and experience. We did eat at the Michelin Starred restaurant on property (La Bastide) one night. Despite a couple of weather related hiccups the food was interesting and quality was exceptional. From a spa perspective: Spa has a Roman bath, cold plunge, and Hammam along with treatment rooms and a fitness area. Roman bath is not huge but is nicely designed my partner and I both received great massages while we were there! From a pool perspective: there are two outdoor pools at the property neither is heated both are beautiful, there is service at both pools but it can be slow. It would have been nice if the hotel lightly played music at one of the pools during the day to encourage conversation amongst the guests, the silence all day long did seem to subtly discourage friendly conversation between fellow guests and even between couples. Overall, beautiful hotel, incredible natural surroundings and lots of potential, just needs some fine tuning as a five star resort.

Outstanding service, great people, lovely setting. Spectacular experience

Lovely grounds and rooms at this beautiful hotel in Bonnieux. Two beautiful pools, and the food and wine were excellent. The rooms are pristinely clean and well appointed. My disappointment was only in the pool experience. There are MANY more families at this hotel than one would guess from Instagram/ promotional materials. There were, at times, multiple young children planningin/running around the pools, screaming for hours. Some of us have come here to specifically to relax around the stunning pools. One thing that could help this is designating an adults only pool. The other thing is having better service around the pools. I was prepared to spend several hundred euro on poolside food and drinks, however there was minimal service available. A QR code system might help? Overall a nice experience, kind staff, and beautiful surroundings, but as a child-free person I prefer quiet relaxation to a family resort experience.

Capelongue is one of those places that stays with you long after you've left. Set among the rolling hills of Provence, surrounded by lavender fields and beautiful hilltop villages, it offers a peaceful and elegant retreat in an exceptional location. The property is stunning, with beautiful gardens, stylish architecture, and spacious rooms spread across the estate. Our room was beautifully designed, immaculately clean, and extremely comfortable, with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. It was the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the Luberon. We were unfortunately there during the two weekly closing days of the Michelin-starred La Bastide restaurant and the cocktail bar, so we missed out on what are undoubtedly two of the hotel's highlights. We had dinner at La Bergerie instead, which was enjoyable, although overcrowded and not particularly memorable considering the overall standard of the hotel. More generally, the service was warm and welcoming, but it wasn't always as polished or attentive as you might expect from a luxury property. The pools are beautiful and a wonderful place to spend a sunny afternoon, with drinks and light bites available throughout the day. However, there are a few areas that could be improved: during our stay, the pool water wasn't as clean as it should have been, and there weren't enough sun loungers to accommodate all the guests. I also think it would be a fantastic idea to reserve one of the two pools exclusively for adults, creating a quieter space for those seeking relaxation while still leaving the other pool available for families. Despite these minor criticisms, our overall experience was great. Capelongue is not cheap but it’s a special hotel with a unique atmosphere, and I'd happily return on my next visit to Provence. With just a little more attention to the details, it would be close to perfect.

Loved our three nights here on our Luberon Valley driving holiday. Very chic, amazing and comfortable bed, decent showers and bathroom, beautiful swimming pools, grounds and views. What's not to like. Very stylish and effortless place. Would definitely stay here again and recommend. Lovely walk into Bonnieux.
