Reviews for The Westin Bora Bora Resort & Spa

Stunning Resort with One Major Issue that Management Seems to be Actively Addressing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I am giving this resort 4 stars because everything else, the location, amenities, excursions, and service, is genuinely excellent. The location is absolutely stunning, the rooms are top-notch, and the excursions are memorable, so if you are looking for a paradise-like environment with crystal clear turquoise water and relaxation, this is the place for you. However, the food situation is serious and it has to be mentioned. Keep in mind that you cannot simply leave the resort to eat elsewhere, so you are committed to eating at the resort, which makes the dining experience even more important than it would at a regular hotel. Most dining options are significantly overpriced for the poor quality provided. Let me explain. The Tipanier Polynesian Dinner & Show was the biggest disappointment of our entire trip, in our opinion a complete waste of 380 USD. The Varavara restaurant was a similarly poor experience. And if you think nobody can make bad pizza or bad pasta, think again. Having said that, these are the POSITIVES: When we raised our concerns, management sat down with us personally, listened carefully, took notes, and acknowledged they are aware of the pattern about food being mentioned in some reviews. They told us they are currently working on a major restructure of their food service to improve quality. That accountability is the reason for the 4th star. We are hopeful very soon the food situation will change, which is the reason why we are thinking about returning next year. In the meantime here is my honest dining guide to make your stay as enjoyable as possible: Breakfast : DO NOT SKIP IT. The breakfast buffet is actually good with something for everyone, custom omelets and eggs, bacon, waffles, toast, yogurts, salads, fresh fruits, pastries, and great coffee. Eat well here every morning. Lunch: Skip the restaurants entirely. Grab a salad or a snack by the pool. Dinner: Book your reservation at the Maere restaurant and book it in advance. The food is genuinely good, the setting is beautiful, the service very attentive, and the experience is thoughfully designed. It is not cheap, but expensive good food always beats expensive bad food. It is the one dinner where you will leave satisfied and happy.

Amazing stay!

We just got home from a fabulous week stay at the Westin. We stayed at this resort when it was le Meridian a few years back and we thought it was great then. The new makeover looks awesome. Very modern. We loved the morning breakfasts and the dinner meals. We also signed up for a few of the free activities which were very fun. This resort has a nice gym that we used daily. Our room (328) was super nice. We had a casita facing the mountain with a pool. Our room was the best part of our stay. I only wish there were more bikes to use since we had friends on the opposite wing of the dock so it was a long walk to visit them. The spa was great. We did a couples massage and it was very relaxing 10 out 10. The staff members are so nice and remember your names when you see them each day. We loved this resort and we will be back. Thank you!

Other resorts have much better food and better variety.

Bora Bora is a dream and our second time going. The first time we stayed at a different resort and had a fantastic experience. This time we stayed at the Westin because we are loyal Marriott BonVoy members. The staff lovely, the resort only two years old after remodeling and very nice. The problem we had was the food. We purchased the package with daily breakfast and dinner which was the wrong decision. There are 4 restaurants and the the pool bar but unfortunately they all have the exact same menu. No variety and most of the food was very bland, even the fruit which was surprising. We always told them tapwater but they would open bottled water instead and pour it before we could say no. At check out they were tried to charge us for bottled water but took off. We were given thermos at icheck in to fill with tap water, but the water tasted moldy. It was disgusting. So for the food and lack of variety alone, we would recommend going to a different resort.

Great visit to Bora Bora

Excellent resort. From the time we arrived at Bora Bora airport, we felt taken care of. Resort was beautiful. Plenty of outdoor seating whether at the pool or the beach. The overwater bungalow was excellent. The mini fridge was a nice perk. Very friendly staff. The kayaks & SUP’s were great. Sunscreen located around the property. Was given a water bottle upon arrival and there are water/ice stations throughout. Great to see the turtle sanctuary.

Simply amazing stay.......

The Westin is the newest resort in Bora Bora. It is beautiful and comfortable and simply amazing. We felt so welcomed upon arrival. I should say that when we got to the boat launch after the flight we were greeted with a full stainless steel water bottle. No idea why until we arrived but it's a wonderful idea! There are water/ice stations everywhere on the resort. When we arrived at check-in it was professional and welcoming. The manager: Arthur came out of his office to greet us and take us to our villa. I don't know if he does this for everyone or for certain Marriott status members....but it was a nice touch. We stayed over the water. The villa was new and spacious. Very cold air conditioning and a wonderful bed (as is their motto of the "Heavenly Bed") The pool/beach are amazing. The restaurants were good. There was a special "Valentine's Day" dinner that we attended and it was delicious! And breakfast was always good. The ladies serving always wore smiles and wanted you to have a great experience. Everyone working here speaks to you every single time you pass them. I had a wonderful massage and facial at the spa. The spa is new and beautiful. The ladies working here really care about you having the best experience also. The Westin in general has amazing service in all aspects. Room service was also fast and delicious. We utilized it many times because we just didn't want to leave our amazing villa! The day of departure we arrived at the dock to find the manager-Arthur there to say goodbye. Very nice gentleman. We were traveling just next door to The St. Regis and awaiting our boat. Arthur said his goodbyes and since our boat wasn't there yet he had one of their boats take us. (we did pass The St. Regis boat as soon as we launched). Great service! We highly recommend the Westin and The St. Regis on Bora Bora!
