A Welcoming Stay During a Difficult Time – Thank You Ryan!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I had to stay at Hotel AKA Back Bay after an unexpected flood in my apartment, and I’m incredibly grateful for the experience I had here. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel like more than just a guest. A special thank-you goes to Assistant General Manager Ryan Stephan, who truly went above and beyond during my stay. He was warm, attentive, and genuinely caring—something that meant so much to me during an otherwise difficult week. It’s not every day you come across that level of service. The hotel itself is modern, clean, and located in a prime area, but it’s the team that really makes it shine. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Boston—or needing a temporary home during unexpected circumstances.

Horrible Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Hotel is in a great location and they were very friendly to our dog, but unfortunately, we experienced something that I hope nobody else has to go through. We were checking out of our hotel with our dog with our car keys nowhere to be found. We had both of our keys in a takeout bag that was next to the coffee maker the night before. When housekeeping came, they accidentally threw the bag away along with our keys. Our car is a keyless push start and the locksmith that we called had to modify our car alarm system to get in to make new keys. It cost us $650 and several hours of missed work. After contacting management, they claimed to have "investigated" and told us that it was not their responsibility. Additionally, when we checking out, we stored luggage with the hotel because we couldn't access our car and they, again, mistook one of our bags with trash. They couldn't find our last bag because it was still in the room, inside of trash bags. At this point it was 7pm... After speaking to management, they said that this is a normal occurrence and that housekeeping thought it was trash, which should not be a normal occurrence to think this twice with one guest or any at all. The trash that we had during our stay was placed by the door to indicate that it was trash. Something next to the coffee maker with things still inside was not trash. After this horrible and stressful experience, we were expecting a different response from the hotel management as the management told us to bring them the invoice, but nothing has been done as they claim they are not responsible for this. Very disappointed as Back Bay residents who were temporarily displaced from their home. If you stay here, please keep all your belongings in your bags or watch them very closely or they might end up in the trash.

Excellent- A++

A.K.A. Back Bay was the right choice for our student’s graduation weekend. They were less expensive than many of the other hotels, and the right location- however the staff & cleanliness is why I’ll return! Thank you Jaime, a waiter at the restaurant- you are wonderful - our mornings were calm and pleasant because of you. Parking was quick & easy too. Also- the restaurant is surprisingly good! Over all- this is my favorite Boston Hotel.

Great very dog friendly Boston hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Best part of my stay was the very friendly, helpful staff, especially Christopher Che. Location is great and convenient to everything. Close to restaurants, bars, Fenway Park and the Boston common. Would definitely stay again next time while in Boston.

You won't want to escape from this (former) police station

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

This may be the happiest you'll ever be to walk into a police station. The AKA occupies the old Boston Police main headquarters, but you'd never know it once you're in the massive metal doors. Very comfortable rooms that are good-sized, well appointed (nice desk and chair, especially!) and modern (USB ports, plenty of outlets, lights on dimmers, electronic window shades. My bathroom had a bath, bucking the awful current trend of half-doored showers that flood the room. My layout contributed to a quiet stay, with an entry passage between the bed and the hallway. I didn't eat at the AKA, but any hotel within 2-minutes' walk of a Flour bakery is tops with me! There's also a Friendly Toast, a great banh mi spot two blocks away, and the whole Boylston/Newbury street shopping area not far from the hotel. Tip: there's a sitting room across the lobby from the registration that is a great place to work or read.
