Boston visit

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 23 hours ago

We had a pleasant stay at The Newbury Boston, although overall I felt the experience fell a little short of what I would expect from a hotel at this level. The room was a very good size and comfortable in terms of space. We also enjoyed the in-room dining — the food was consistently good. The one exception was the latte, which unfortunately was disappointing. It tasted more like milk poured into coffee rather than a properly prepared latte, and by the time it arrived at the room, the milk and coffee had visibly separated. The air conditioning in the room was another issue for us. We never found the temperature or airflow particularly comfortable, which affected the overall comfort of the room. Service was perfectly fine and the staff were pleasant, but it didn’t have the polished, attentive feel I normally associate with a truly luxurious five-star hotel. There was also an awkward smell when entering the hotel, which was noticeable on arrival and didn’t create the best first impression. Overall, The Newbury has a great location, generously sized rooms, and good in-room dining, but there are some details — particularly the room comfort, service level, and overall arrival experience — that could be improved to make the stay feel as luxurious as the hotel’s positioning suggests.

Incredible Service at Street Bar

Conch continues to make us feel like celebrities when we dine at Street Bar. Always such a pleasure to be at the Newbury and experience excellent service. Always looking forward to the next time!

Good for Boston

Generally I find Boston luxury hotels lacking. I like the Newbury more than 4 Seasons, MO or Langham (all stays in last year). Staff was friendly and room well appointed. They had a bidet of sorts which is nice and something lacking in too many properties in America. I wish they had bar soap in the room as I don't always like to use body wash. They sent up extra decaf pods and water for me. Gym was excellent with heavy weight, good machinese and (awesomely) free mint chocolate flavored coconut water. They had free coffee and pastries for everyone in the morning in a club lounge like atmosphere off the library. The decor was gorgeous, coffee and tea offered good, but the pastries didn't look appetizing so I skipped them. But it was a byeer offering than MO but not as good as Four Seasons. But I like this hotel , esp with Newbury Street location. It's probably my favorite luxury hotel in Boston. It's not as good as Asia based rooms from a hardware standpoint but it's quite nice. I give it one and a half thumbs up.

Great Boston feel

Love the atmosphere of the hotel. Great rooms and lovely decor. Ask for a corner room with view to the public garden. The best!

4-Star, NOT 5-star

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

I stayed at the "old Ritz" at this location many times over 50 years. I had heard that the hotel had been restored to its "former glory" after the Taj years. We booked with great expectations and enthusiasm. While the hotel has many attributes, including location and an excellent restaurant on-site, I found the service, including servicing our large suite to be a "four" and not a "five. In particular, I was astounded that there is no on-site concierge! IMO no hotel can be truly "5-star" with a shared, remote located concierge service. Sadly, I shall not return.
